One of the best decisions I made in 2020 and I would do it again if I had to! I had surgery on my right foot on November 19, 2020 in Littleton, Colorado. I am from California, so I flew up even with COVID happening. I was very careful and have not gotten sick with COVID yet, cross my fingers. I just had to get it done, since I could hardly walk. I had arthritis in my big toe which created the bone spur which restrained my walking. I also had a bunion but mostly, the big toe was now on top of the next toe and pushing that toe away. Just before my surgery, I could hardly walk without great pain in that foot. I had visited many foot doctors who told me I would have to take general anesthesia to undergo the surgery which was not a good option for me with my A-Fib and Sleep Apnea. So the search all over the internet started until I came upon Northwest Surgery Center. It has take me 5 months to write a review because for me the healing process was a very slow one. I read so many reviews about people skiing, running after just 3 weeks to 2 months. That was not me. I ran once after 2 months and boy did I regret it! I was in so much pain for 5 days after. But I'm being realistic here. It has taken me this long to write a great review because I'm still not quite there yet with the bending of the toes at a 90 degree angle like the other foot can. So although I was worried I might not get better, I am getting better!!! I can wear most of my shoes again, I can walk a lot and I am getting to that 90 degree angle. I am the tortoise in the fable the Tortoise and the Hare: Slow and Steady wins the race! So I am very pleased and happy to say that I went to Northwest Surgery Center. The staff and surgeon were incredible and very patient with my myriad of questions. They are not your typical staff, they go out of their way to make you feel so comfortable and welcomed. I stayed in Littleton for a week so I could be there in case I needed anything and also for my follow up a week later. If I ever go back to get work on my left foot, I will know not to compare myself to others that have recovered in such little time. I learned to be patient and that my healing time is different from others. My husband went to the Northwest Surgery Center for a consultation with Dr. Victor Horsley on the recommendation of our next door neighbor. He had been experiencing 20+ years of pain in his toes due to hammer toes & bunions. He had been several Podiatrists other the years and even had a pin & screw put into one of his toes to fix the problem. It didn't. The other doctors told him he had neuromas and that they could remove the neuromas leaving his feet without any sensations or feeling, or he do nothing and continue to live with the pain and discomfort. After a consultation with Dr. Horsley, we felt that his approach of minimally invasive surgery (i.e. no pins, no screws, no incision greater than ¼") would finally fix my husband's problems and eliminate his discomfort. In addition, because the surgery was minimally invasive, the recovering time was significantly quicker than traditional foot surgeries. We scheduled surgery on his left foot for Feb. 19th and his right foot on Feb. 20th. In the 2 days, Dr. Horsley straightened 9 of his 10 toes (1 toe didn't need any work) and removed a bunion and bone spur that had kept my husband's big toe from bending for years. My husband was able to walk out of the center after the surgery and never needed to take a pain pill. After 9 weeks, he was discharged and is back playing softball at 100%. His feet look so normal, they could be used in a magazine ad! The staff at the Northwest Surgery Center was over the top in friendliness, efficiency and competency. We had complete confidence in the entire team; they did the right things, before, during and after the surgery. They attended to every detail and didn't gloss over a thing. We would highly recommend Dr. Horsley and the staff at Northwest Surgery Center if you have problems with your feet that you want fixed once and for all and you don't want to spend months recuperating. I highly recommend minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery at Northwest Surgery Center! Dr. Sullivan and his entire staff are exceptional and the results are excellent! Prior to discovering the minimally invasive option, I tried various (possibly every) non-surgical options and met with multiple doctors to discuss traditional surgery, but could never pull the trigger due to the extensive recovery time. However, after a virtual consultation with Dr Sullivan I scheduled the surgery and two weeks later started my journey. It's now been 10 weeks and I couldn't be happier! Although I was a bit skeptical at first, my recovery has tracked 100% to what Dr. Sullivan described during my consultation. I walked out of surgery in a boot, albeit a little slower than normal, with minimal pain. I was back at work that afternoon, walked daily throughout my recover and by week 3 was back on my bike. I returned to Orange Theory by week 9, bought new running shoes yesterday and today went for my first run since surgery and it felt great!! If you're reading reviews you must be considering option and quite honestly I'm not sure why anyone would chose to go the traditional route when minimally invasive is an option. After researching bunion surgery, I concluded that the minimally invasive surgery technique was for me. I had witnessed the pain, discomfort and inconvenience of my daughter's traditional bunion surgery at age 15; I definitely didn't want to go through that at 60! Dr. Horsley at the Northwest Surgery Center and his fantastic team made the process not only easy, but enjoyable, if you can imagine that. Coming from an hour and a half away, the staff always accommodated my schedule and made scheduling appointments very easy. Dr. Horsley answered all of my questions and explained every detail. I work in the medical profession and appreciate the rarity of such personalized care. My surgery went smoothly, I had each foot done on 2 consecutive days, and walked out with no pain. My pain level never got above 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, and I was out of my orthotic boots in 3 1/2 weeks. Today, at eight weeks, I am walking normally. I couldn't be happier with the care I received and the results achieved. My husband will be scheduling a minor procedure after the first of the year, and my daughter, who is a D1 track athlete, saw Dr. Horsley for a consultation and will be scheduling an appointment this summer to address some minor issues. I posted a review here a month ago and for some reason, it's now gone. So I wanted to sing the praises of Northwest Surgery Center and urge anyone who is hesitating about having bunion surgery to go in for a consultation. The surgery was done quickly and I walked out in a small support boot. It truly is AMAZING how different this experience was to "traditional" bunion surgery (I heard several horror stories from friends). Tiny incisions, no metal hardware holding bones in place, quick recovery! I had to walk "gingerly" for the first few days, but by day 5 there was almost no pain, and I was able to walk around my house, drive, and go to the store. By week 3, I was able to work at my volunteer job at a food bank, and by week 4 the bandages were taken off and I was taking walks wearing loose, comfortable shoes. I'm now 16 weeks post-surgery and am thrilled with the results! I went on a 5-mile hike in Moab and, with my bunion and hammer toe repaired, was able to do so with zero pain for the first time in years. The surgery is not a "pain free" procedure, but there really is very little pain and it's so manageable, and the recovery was incredibly quick. After 10 years of pain from my bunions that I grinned, ran, climbed, skied, hiked and mountaineered through I reached a final breaking point when a recent mountaineering summit left me in tears from pain. Don't know how to show the before and after pictures but my bunion on my right foot was extreme. (figured it out and see photos below!) I am 75 and had bunion surgery on my left foot years ago and swore I would not have it done on my right foot because it was so painful and took almost a year to heal. The surgery I had at the Northwest Surgery Center was AMAZING. I truly did walk out of the clinic that day on my own. The only thing that hurt was getting the shot in my foot to numb it. After that, it really was so easy. The swelling hasn't gone down entirely but that will only take about a month to be totally "normal" and I have no pain and walking with regular shoes on! I can't give this group & the surgeon enough accolades. Everyone was very professional as well as friendly. Having my bunion and hammertoe surgery done at Northwest Surgery Center was a great decision. I had been scheduled for normal bunion surgery but just couldn't face the pain and down time associated with traditional surgery again. Additionally, I was looking at a second or third surgery to correct my hammertoes. My surgery at Northwest Surgery Center, on both feet, was done in mid-July. As a senior citizen being active is very important to me. Six weeks later I am back to being able to resume my normal activities including walking long distances. I walked out of the surgery as promised and the pain throughout has been very tolerable to downright minimal. I had bunion and hammer toe surgery on both feet, 1 day apart, after watching how successful and easy the process was for a co-worker. I will say that I was amazed. I went out to dinner the evening after my first surgery to celebrate my birthday which was that week and even was on the dance floor at a wedding that weekend! There is a recovery period, and I didn't do a lot of walking for the first couple of months, but I was always mobile and I never had to take anything more than Ibuprophen, which I think I only took the first week or two, off and on. The procedure on my left foot was more extensive than my right foot, but I was still out of the "boots" at about 6 weeks and was wearing all of my comfortable shoes by 2-3 months. The office staff, nurses and doctor are great and make you feel at ease. I would never have had the traditional procedure and I can't believe everybody doesn't do it this way. January 24, 2019, I had minimally invasive foot surgery on both feet to correct issues from previous surgeries through the years by other doctors. I've had bunions since I was 11 years old. I am now 72. I have been terrified of having traditional bunion surgery because of the pain and recovery time. Northwest Surgery Center is amazing! I had both feet done one week apart instead of back to back (due to my own stupidity---don't ask) I literally walked out of the office on my own the day of the surgery, no crutches, no nothing! I searched for a surgeon/facility that offer minimally invasive foot surgery after reading a plethora of horror stories about traditional bunion surgery. I had a bone spur that was causing a great deal of pain and making it difficult to walk & live my life much less where a paid of normal shoes. I'm SO glad I found these guys. I had a bunion on my right foot that was becoming more painful and impairing my daily activities. I checked into traditional surgery but I highly recommend Northwest Surgery Center as I couldn't take much time off from work. The healing time is much faster than traditional surgery and you are on your feet with a walking boot right after surgery. I highly recommend Northwest surgery center. I had surgery for hammertoe on both feet, 1 foot one day and the other foot the next day. I was able to drive home even after the second foot was done and did not feel the need to take any additional time off from work.The whole process was as good as it could possibly be. Had surgery on consecutive days for bunions in September. The healing process really is as described during your consultation. After 7 weeks, I am cleared and am starting PT exercises for my feet. My personal experience was I wore the prescribed shoes for 3 weeks and then was moved into my own tennis shoe/hard soled shoes for the remaining 3 weeks.
