I brought a whole block of kitchen knives in for sharpening. Some were vintage, some modern and some were single bevel handmade Japanese damascus steel knives. These guys did a beautiful job, got all the bevel angles correct and even managed to repair a knife that had been dropped down a garbage disposal and was banged up from all angles. I know how to use a set of sharpening stones, but just don't have the time. To that end, I was a little worried about having my knives done on belts, but they came out just as sharp as if I sweated over them; probably a little better. The fellow that sharpened my knife set was a craftsman. As for the person complaining below about identity politics in the store, I'd write off that complaint as pretty absurd. Idaho politics lean very heavily to the right. I do not. As such, I can guarantee some of the staff didn't vote for the same people that I did in the last election, but I never felt anything other than overwhelmingly welcome from the moment I stopped in to the moment I left. Moreover, no one asked me who I voted for, either. I'm sorry the kitschy but popular coffee display offended you. The last time I checked, it was still ok to try to make a dime in America. Northwest Knives sells many products and services you can't get anywhere else in the Treasure Valley at a fair price. Also, they really do know the knives they sell on a level you won't get at Williams Sonoma. Don't let some histrionic and devisive person that takes offense to a bag of coffee stop you from supporting a great local business. read more

First time customer. Excellent online shopping experience. I ordered a knife less than 10 minutes before they closed on a Friday night. Within 2 minutes I received a confirmation email. By 9 a.m. Saturday morning I received an email that my order had shipped, which included the USPS tracking link. Order arrived by 10 a.m. on Monday, beautifully packaged, and that was just with the free USPS ground shipping. The cherry on top was that the knife I ordered is somewhat hard to find, but Northwest had every flavor in stock, and at the best price. Great selection of knives. From budget to Mid-line to High End, they pretty much have it all. Very friendly staff too. When I walked in, they acknowledged me, and left me to shop. After answering a few questions, the asked me what I was carrying (a We Tech folder), which started a fun conversation about all things "knife" . They have a really nice selection of Kitchen knifes (as opposed to just hunting and tactical blades). Northwest Knives also offer sharpening. Cool store, cool people! read more

I was looking to get my knives sharpened and there were not a lot of options. Went here yesterday and spoke with Layne. He was great, he explained things to me that I had no idea of. How to properly sharped a knife, and he showed me a lot of knives so I can feel how they fit my hand. Purchased a large knife block (very happy with) and had my kitchen knives sharpened. They sharpen knives overnight which is great, just in time for the weekend. Everyone here is very friendly, well versed in their craft, and I am most definitely coming back. OK I never thought I would be reviewing a knife shop, but I gotta say when I experience such awesome, professional service I have to share. I have a small pocket knife that I wanted sharpened. When I brought it in, I was told it was probably too small but he would see what Aaron (the owner) could do. A few minutes later Aaron brought out my newly sharpened knife, handed it over and said there ya go! I asked how much I owe, he said no charge! While waiting I looked around and talked to the other guy working (sorry didn't get his name) and I learned more about knives and Idaho in just a few minutes than I ever expected to. They have so many knives at every price point and I was fascinated to look at a few. Made me want to buy a new one! Someday I'll upgrade and if I'm ever in Boise again I will definitely come here to purchase. Thanks guys! read more

I needed to replace my EDC knife so I went on the internet and spent way too much time reading reviews and checking all the big (and many small) knife retailers online to see my options. Ultimately reading specs and looking at pictures of knives got old so I decided to see what Northwest Knives offered. What I found was an incredible selection of knives at all price points (much larger and varied than any of the gun/sporting good/outdoor stores in the valley), great customer service, a ton of knowledge, and a desire to help the customer find the perfect knife. I have purchased several knives from Northwest Knives and have had nothing but First Class service. I was very sad when then move the store to Idaho , but, then their on-line sales and service is the best in the industry. I'll definitely stop by their store the next time I'm rolling thru, but until then, the on-line experience is fantastic and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
