I was very wrong. I was getting notes home for things like not properly using a tissue, taking his socks off incorrectly, or he spit out a snack he didn't like onto his plate. He would come home miserable. He started having issues at meal times over trying new foods. When I tried to communicate with the teacher/owner, I was told she made an exception allowing him in to her school and I was free to pull him out. There was no empathy or warmth. After doing research, I found this school is not accredited through any Montessori programs. It is not following a true Montessori method which I would have seen if parents were allowed in the school at any point, however parents are not welcome. This is not child-led learning as Maria Montessori envisioned and I was very disappointed in the way my child was treated and did end up pulling him out. It wasn't worth his daily misery for minor infractions of being a child that were constantly pointed out to him. He has been much happier away from that environment.

I'm a big fan of Rocky Bayou Christian School (RBCS), and I have experience with the school and…read morestaff in a variety of different ways. My two youngest children attended RBCS for many years, and I have a close relative who was on the RBCS faculty. And before I go further, let me say that I've been called to meet with RBCS leadership over the behavior choices made by both of the children I sent to RBCS. My children were not "top students" at RBCS, nor were they the worst students in their groups. We've had good experiences at RBCS, and a few experiences that left us feeling a bit uncomfortable. But years after our children have moved on to other academic situations I see how the foundation that was built at RBCS is paying dividends in their individual lives. And I'm thankful for those years we had our children enrolled at RBCS. I have never been on the school's staff or payroll. And while I'd be the first to admit that the school has a few areas that could use improvement, overall, I'd say that RBCS is a wonderful school. And children who are raised in a loving, disciplined environment can do extremely well at RBCS. Academically, RBCS is one of the top schools in the state of Florida, with standardized test scores that typically crush almost every school in the state, and with graduating seniors amassing scholarships offers that dwarf graduating students from most Florida high schools. RBCS provides disciplined and respectful students who are there to learn, with a strong Christian education. The school and staff are extremely up-front about the rules of behavior and the discipline methods used with students. They even post all that information on their web site. With approximately 800 students in K-12, and about 100 staff members, there are certainly going to be differences between individual teachers when it comes to dealing with discipline problems and communicating those problems to parents. Parents have a responsibility to the greater society, and to those professional teachers they entrust their child to, to teach proper discipline and respect at home, BEFORE the child is brought to school. And when a parent enrolls a child in a private school where discipline is strong and the rules and procedures made crystal clear to parents when they enroll, those parents have an obligation to be supportive of those discipline methods at home. If they're unable or unwilling to support the discipline methods the school openly advertises, they shouldn't enroll the child in the first place. People don't go to the effort and sacrifice it takes to establish a private, Christian school so they can bend and sway with the preferences of each parent that walks their little "darling" through the door. Children should not be sent into a school environment until they have learned to be respectful and obedient at home. When a child is able to understand full sentences he/she is able to be taught respect for authority and obedience to those in authority. And if the parents is not respectful of appropriate authority in the home they are demonstrating behaviors that set their child up for failure. What a young parent might believe is "strong-willed" behavior in a child, might be seen by other fair-minded adults as brattish, attention-seeking, and/or defiant behavior. I've seen many a young parent become extremely defensive and angry at the first suggestion that their child isn't perfect. You'd be surprised at how unreasonable some parents can be when it comes to dealing with behavior issues in their child that should have been addressed at home, before the child was put into a school setting. Teachers are there to teach the willing mind...not to salvage a disruptive and defiant brat. It's not their job to parent your child, nor to fix the problems parents refused to deal with, themselves. Behavior analysis and modification is board-certified science and profession, and a task that in most cases is best performed in a one-to-one adult/child ratio. If your child's behaviors need attention, find a professional who can work with him/her in the appropriate way and the proper setting. A school classroom is the wrong environment for that kind of effort. It is set up for one person to teach a large mass of attentive, disciplined children. Don't pretend to yourself that such expections are unrealistic. There are dozens of countries far less wealthy and "sophisticated" than the US where kids sit in dirt-floor classroom and give 100% attention and respect to their teachers...all freakin day long. The reason it doesn't happen here in the US (anymore) is not because of bad teaching, but BAD PARENTING! If you are a parent, and your child is a behavior problem at school, it's YOUR FAULT! An environment of high standards and strong discipline DOES NOT bring out the worst in a child. But it certainly expose problems parents weren't aware of...or were unwilling to admit.

I signed up my daughter for classes in January and after some initial confusion we got the first…read moreclass scheduled in February. The instructor, J, told me to not listen to the office and she would do all of the scheduling and I was fine with that until she started scheduling on days and hours I had told her not to schedule. I was understanding that things happen and not angry, though a bit frustrated. J then tried to change on of the class hours because it was a holiday and she assumed my daughter was out of school and informed me of this, but by daughter is dual enrolled and had class that day. Then it became apparent that she had dual-booked and she canceled my daughter's class, though she indicated earlier it was because she wanted to get off earlier. She then cancelled the next one due to weather, which is understandable, and shortly there after said my daughter would get a new instructor and they would reach out with a new schedule. After a week or so of no one contacting me I tried to contact the company directly, but the phone number goes to a full mailbox. I then email several times and never got a response. I contacted the instructor (J) since she was the only number I had and she said the new instructor had left the company and she wasn't scheduling anyone until she got back from vacation. I asked her when that would be and never got a response. A week later I went by the office in Niceville to see if I could rectify the situation in person and was informed J was off of her vacation and to contact her directly, and they would as well. I reached out to J to tell them what I was told at the office and got a terse reply back about "who told you to contact me so I can talk to them" and I let her know, and she did not respond with a thank you or any acknowledgment. I waited a few more days (until today) and sent a text and asked her if there was any update on the scheduling. She responded by telling me that I should use the "proper greeting' when texting her. Then she texted again and said there was an issue with my daughter's account. I texted and told her it was rude of her to act as if she was the victimized one here and that I would like her boss's phone number. She did not reply, but then called a little while later to inform me that she was raised to give a proper greeting before asking a question, implying that I was not raised properly. I informed here the issue here was not my texting style (I was never once rude or even angry before this), but that I have been very patient with this for over 2 months now and no one responds to me, and she herself has been rude by not answering my questions. She continued to try and talk over me and when I told her that was rude as well she hung up on me. This has been a terrible experience and I would not recommend this company to anyone if their present state. I sympathize if they are short staffed, but if you can't meet the demand then you shouldn't take on new customers and you certainly shouldn't be rude to the ones you do take on for getting frustrated with this. I am giving them 2 stars because I believe the 2 classes that J did give to my daughter went well and she instructed well. I also do not blame her for most of the issues I have had with scheduling and a lack of response to my calls or emails. I was extremely disappointed in the end though. I have never written one negative review of anyone or any business in my life, so for me to do this should let you know how dissatisfied I am. I do not take this lightly. v/r M. Smith
