From the very first minute, they listened with patience, took my concerns seriously, & got to work. Bonnie needed to stay through the weekend & ended up having surgery Saturday evening. Leaving her was heartbreaking, but they promised excellent care & frequent updates. They delivered on every word. I especially want to recognize Stephanie Keller. While I feel the entire staff was amazing, she provided updates & next steps that kept me confident I'd get to hold my dog again. She went well above & beyond with the care of my Bonnie girl. Little did Stephanie know, she gained a new best friend that day. Thanks to Dr. Skarr, Stephanie, & the entire team, Bonnie is on the mend. At both follow-up appointments, she was greeted with cheers & the biggest smiles. Several staff members told me they had bonded with her & were emotionally invested in her recovery. You could see it on their faces. A lot of my tears during those days were from fear & concern but at the end, my tears represented my appreciation & thankfulness for this crew. Any animal we have from now on will be taken here. They cared for Bonnie, & they cared for the scared person who loves her. Shawnee Animal Hospital won my heart, hands down.

Also, they did not provide any options for me to get the health records of the pet I adopted. When asked if they could email me, it still have the previous owners information and just said "sorry". As if they can't redact that info? As if the vet couldn't call me personally? I do not think they did their job in adequately clearing the pet I adopted and maybe their records would prove that. I would never bring my animal here. It does not take weeks to get back to someone when in reality, all I need to know is if labs were done, how much did the pet weigh, and if they noticed the lump during their exam. Her recent chest X-rays showed no evidence of lung metastasis, and we consulted Dr. Gee about amputation because our regular surgeon was unavailable. During that consultation, my husband was told that Dr. Gee believed the cancer had spread to Jocelynn's liver and stomach and that euthanasia was the appropriate course. We were not comfortable making such an irreversible decision based on that assessment alone, so we sought another opinion from the veterinarian who had been managing her palliative care. After reviewing Jocelynn's imaging and history, he did not believe there was evidence of liver metastasis and felt the abdominal findings were more consistent with gastritis. We proceeded with the amputation. Jocelynn is now comfortable, active, eating, and enjoying her life again. We fully understand that osteosarcoma is an aggressive cancer and that her prognosis remains serious. My concern is that a recommendation to end an animal's life should involve careful reasoning, acknowledgment of uncertainty, and consideration of reasonable alternatives. Had we followed the initial recommendation without seeking another opinion, Jocelynn would not be here today. I strongly encourage pet owners facing an irreversible recommendation to ask questions and, when appropriate, seek a second opinion.

I got in my car and traveled around Shawnee looking for a pet store that might sell dog boots (I had plenty of warm clothes for them, but no boots!). The store I found on Yelp had recently closed down. Disheartened I continued driving up Harrison and went past Best Friends Animal Clinic. Eureka! They will know where I can get dog boots! I went in and from the moment I walked in the door I felt taken care of. I could tell this was a really great clinic by the kinds of food, treats and products they had on display in the waiting room, and the front desk receptionist was just lovely. While we talked, people came and went with their cats and dogs - everybody was happy with how they were treated. While the receptionist was on the phone, the vet came out and asked if we were all taken care of. THE VET came and checked on people in the waiting room. Awesome. As we chatted, the receptionist told him why I was there and he hand wrote me a map of the pet supply places in Shawnee. Seriously, how sweet was that?! I think you'll like this place. Friendly, well kept and really nice staff and vet. Definitely was a place I would take my dogs if I lived there!
