I only got to see so much of the bad attitudes of the staff because I had come early, and got called back late. After I sat in the back until 30 minutes after my appointment time I got up and left. That same day I made appointments with two other potential primary care providers. Two weeks later I got a letter from Alabama Medical Group indicating that they were concerned that they might not be able to provide the best medical care so they would stop providing care after 30 days. I did not write back to tell them that the "care" I had received was not even adequate, and that anyone willing to put up with disrespectful treatment from people who were willing to let the patient know just how overworked they are, well, I do expect good health care and am willing to leave to get it. Btw, I do have Medicare and Plan G supplemental insurance, so lack of coverage is not part of this.

I have used Dr. Donald Sanders and he is a sweetheart and great PCP. He is friendly, down to earth and very knowledgeable. He treats each patient like family. You have to wait a while but he is so worth it. My Dad has started using Dr. Burden after Dr. Ashurst (whom we love) retired and he is so sincere, listens, has a great bedside manner and very knowledgeable and smart. Saw the PA then a doctor also listened to me since i tend to get pneumonia easily. I felt confident in the treatment plan and care and continued to improve after beginning meds. Office was clean, staff polite and location's hours (and wait times) convenient. The place is always clean. Today, we watched as a poor boy unexpectedly vomited into his hands, and then the trash can as he stood up when his name was called to go to the back. The staff handled the situation with grace and once he was out of the room, another staff member immediately cleaned the entire area and sprayed every square inch with disinfectant. Back to our visit - turns out my 6 year old daughter has strep throat. We were called back and the nurse checked her vitals, then swabbed her mouth with the long swab that looks like a giant q-tip and took it away for testing. Then the doctor - Dr. Christopher Failie - came in and evaluated her. We've seen this doctor several times, as well as others, but he is one of our favorites. He relates to the kids so well. Today, he talked to my daughter about her unicorn headband while he did her checkup. Test results showed it was indeed strep, so he came back with a prescription and told us to call or come back if we needed anything, that he would be the doctor at the clinic all weekend. In a separate visit a few years ago, my son had been having torturous headaches- the vomit-inducing kind where light & sound hurts, and then he would sleep for 12 hours afterwards. He was 5 years old at the time, and this shouldn't have been happening as often as it was. His pediatrician blew them off as no big deal numerous times. One day, I decided to bring him in to be seen while he was in the middle of one of the headaches so it could be documented by medics staff, and not just me as his mom. The staff (we had a female doctor that day, but I can't remember her name) was blown away at how bad it was and not only immediately called his pediatrician, but also called the hospital to let them know we were being sent over for a head scan right then. They took his headaches extremely serious. Between them and the doctors at the ER who examined him, we ended up seeing a neurologist who diagnosed my son with severe migraines, and got out on a preventative medication. Had we listened to the pediatrician, my son would still be in pain. I am so thankful for the staff at GMUC in Saraland for not only taking us seriously, but taking steps and advocating for my child.
