I called and I spoke with Marilyn and I requested a delivery for a birthday basket and she assisted me with picking out 4 good wines from several regions and I picked out snacks and munchies to go with the wine! she even sent some chocolates! Firstly, their prices are one of the more competetive compared to other beer and wine stores. The Windward Beer and Wine Store over by the hospital is considered one of the most expensive. Secondly, they go out of their way to get different and unique items and are more than willing to get something in for a customer. Their hours are very reasonable as well. Basically if you are in town and need to head to a Beer and Wine store than try to make your way here rather than some of the other ones nearby.

When…read moreI had a very serious injury when I broke my foot in two places, the staff were so helpful with helping with groceries into the car, and have always been super friendly. Some of those young students staff were especially so kind to me when I was so badly injured. They have a good selection and I especially love the convenience of their fabulous organic and health section that beats all the other stores. I love it when they bring in the fresh dandelion leaves and so did my naturopath who cured a patient of a serious health issue when I told their office that the leaves were available at Country Grocer! I actually love this store due to its organized aisles and cleanliness, too. (We won't be mentioning the problems at other stores...) Listen - they even sell organic soil and pretty flowers!!! Fours stars for a typically dull off-sales... Say what?…read more Well... I learned a valuable lesson over the weekend. That the little stores sometimes get stuck with "random" bottles of wine that they can't sell to their regulars. So there we were loading up from their limited selection of REAL ciders and we (OK, so it was Crystal H) noticed a 2005 Razer's Edge Shiraz sitting all alone on the shelf. Uh........ "Holy Sechelt", I yelped. The elusive '05 RE. That is an incredible bottle of wine that I searched out in Vancouver 4 years ago with very limited success. I miraculously found one in a BC liquor store and cellared it for three years. And when I finally opened it last year... well, lets just say there was some magic happening at the dinner table. Back to the lesson at Lighthouse. Of course I bought their lonely bottle. And it is likely that it's already peaked in taste. But who cares. What a find! Support the little guys, and you just never know what you may discover.

Drove 15 minutes from our campground to be stood up at the door with the "we are over capacity". Looking around there were many open tables and/or people sitting on patio without food or drink just loitering. With this "over capacity" information we put our name on a "quick waitlist". After 45 minutes of waiting in a seat that we found between many other open tables. We left. Beer looked good, food looks mediocre. Sounds like they build too much infrastructure for their lacklustre "capacity". If you're hungry or thirsty, you may want to drive down to Nanaimo. Probably quicker.
