The Northe & Son's Building really caught my attention as my wife and I were touring the City Of Napier New Zealand, the Art-Deco Capital of New Zealand. The rich tones (turquoise green & gold lines) are typical colors used during this period. And I really love the added artwork of the man & women.
The original building owned by "Northe & Sons" was built in 1921. It did sustained major damage during the Hawkes Bay Earthquake in 1931 and was rebuilt the following year in 1932. Local architects "Finch & Westerholm" we're used to design the rebuilding of the new building.
This included reinforced concrete for the two story building. The main lower level occupied two storefronts while upper level were housing units.
The paintings gave this building a lot of character. It was one of my favorites !
