Having friends that have moved to Leyton, I'm experiencing a large variety of new pubs/restaurants/etc.... And I have to say that so far, Northcote Pub is one of my favourites. After having a pub lunch somewhere else, we weren't quite ready to call it a day, and one of my friends mentioned that the pub at the end of his road had a drag show on Sunday nights. So...as you do...we decided to give it a try...and I'm so glad we did.
Although the drag show was entertaining, and I'd certainly go back again for it, it was the actual pub that I really liked. It still has a nice, old pub feel...hasn't been too gentrified, and had a good variety of people in it. When we first walked in there were a couple of tables with babies, but by 7pm, they'd cleared out. There was plenty of seating, but not so much to make it seem crowded...it had a nice cozy feel.
The bartender was great...I couldn't decide which wine I wanted, so he let me do a little wine tasting before I chose my bottle. One friend ordered a pizza....which from the small bite I had, tasted pretty awesome. I'm definitely going back for pizza!
It's also just around the corner from the tube station, and an even quicker walk to a bus stop...luckily for me, it was the bus I needed to get home.
Great little pub and I'll definitely go back. read more
