We were told that the sat nav wouldnt know the way so they gave us directions - we didnt get lost, so good directions! When we pulled up we were greeted by a tiny 6 year old girl who was covered in mud, she told us where to go and who we needed to talk to. We each filled out a form with our details (at the bottom of the form theres a tick list, and you just tick all the things you want to do on your ridewalking, trotting, jumping etc.) after that a lady sorted us all out with helmets and we watched a little demo of how to get on and off while we waited for our horses to come out. My sisters horse came out first, tall and white, male, called Paddy. He's 33 years old. Next was my horse, female, called Maisy, and she's a beautiful dark brown! I dont remember what my mums horse is called, but thats because I didnt see them for more than half an hour in a half day of riding! My horse was so keen to stay right at the front and my mums horse was happy to just plod along and stop to eat any greenery any chance it got! The ride was amazing, the weather wasnt the best so we couldnt see the tops of the mountains but the views were still brilliant. The lady that joined us on the ride (oops! Ive forgotten her name too!) she was lovely too. Really friendly and chatty. She told us all about our horses, aparently they have been used as extra's in films and TV productions (most recently in some BBC programme about Queen Elizabeth). I'd highly recommend this place to anybody who fancies a horse ride. They cater for everybody! From a total novice to experienced riders they will have a suitable horse, a friendly intructor and the appropriate trails and tracks for you to follow.

It may well be this but when I walked past I was overjoyed to find a little garden centre that looks like it rose up from ground and grew out of the trees that hide it. It exists mostly outside with a lady, a cat and dog huddled round a wood burner, running the place. There are plants everywhere, planted in boots, old toilets, amongst carved pieces of wood, as well as in pots, for sale. Recently I picked up a pot of thyme for £1.50 but there were loads of herbs and flowers I could have chosen from. I also wanted some trays and pots to plant my seeds in so I asked if they had any. The lady told me they had loads and to help myself from the pile for no charge! This beats sterile and expensive landscaped garden centres I have tried to avoid since my childhood any day.

They sell beautiful healthy plants which are so much cheaper than at any local garden centre. You can also buy wood and good quality manure in the autumn. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The owner, Gwen, and her daughter, have a wealth of gardening knowledge and will go out of their way to help and advise. My 3 year old boy loves to visit and see the hens, the dog and the river while I browse the plants on offer and soak up the atmosphere.

Also have a tack shop and café on site, which is really handy. I went with my niece who hadn't ridden before, and they gladly accommodated us both in the same lesson. The only negative thing I would say was that they put me on something quite advanced which understandably began to mess about and took off with me. I ended up changing horses halfway through. I didn't want her to see someone fall off on her first lesson! But that is in no way a slur on the establishment, you get horses like that - but I do think they should have put me on something calmer that wouldn't mind a beginner type lesson.

itd be great to have an option for 0 ratings.. where do I start?…read more.. when you arrive you see nothing but dog mess everywhere and days or weeks old horse poo and fag butts EVERYWHERE where is the health and safety?not to mention the muck heap, it doesn't take a genius to tell that the yard is never looked after as the muck heap is all over the yard itself. as you arrive in the office/ shop you are greeted by the stench of dirty dog beds and dogs everywhere and the shop itself is a mess hats everywhere even on the floor in piles! when you finally find a member of staff you're met with awful attitudes that seem like they don't want to be there! you're thrown on any horse regardless of your height or weight and then just left unsupervised whilst the staff walk off to either get more ponies or to have a chinwag to decide who will be dealing with what horse..also said "staff" is a majority of children who seem to be "volunteers" (seems more like child slavery) god forbid an accident happens as a child leading an animal of that size and strength with beginners and other children onboard is an serious injury waiting to happen!. As for the poor poor horses to start off with half of them are lame and shouldn't be worked! they also look ever so drained! the majority of the time these horses and ponies are physically dragged around the ring or path! also by looking online you can see the old horses that are still used daily are the same horses from 10+ years ago- as for the horses tack it's absolutely filthy And I'm no expert but nothing looks to be fitted correctly, the stalls the horses are kept In are absolutely disgusting the horses are standing in their own poo/ wee as they have no bedding just stones all while most of the time the horses go without hay or water. as for the "views" if you pay for a bridlepath like stated above your leader is more than likely going to be a child but you're walked round a dirty path surrounded by fields.. now the fields Atleast 80% if the fields are absolutely covered in horse poo and a there is actually more weeds than there is grass at the end of the bridlepath you are then led the wrong way along a road with absolutely zero hifiz it is only a short distance but it should require some form of reflective clothing! I have a lot more to say on this matter but there is a books worth of writing to do.. all I can suggest is you avoid this place at all costs, if you want a safe riding school near by simply search the surroundoing riding schools and you'll have a much safer experience!

Horses are well looked after and it was lovely to be allowed to go on the walk with my granddaughter and follow them around. Photos were allowed as long as none of the other riders were in them - so great safeguarding procedures in place. Granddaughter wants to go again in school holidays. Thank you to all the staff and helpers involved - you do a fantastic job!

The horses all live out and there are lots of fields that we used to ride in, I believe Stevie recently acquired more fields as well. the fact is that many people who can not afford to pay the prices of the more expensive local riding schools have the opportunity to learn to ride and to learn about horses at Stevie's. I know that my parents would not have been able to pay for lessons at other stables and so I would have missed out on what was, and still is, a massive part if my life. I have since ridden at many other stables and have found that quite often they are aloof places with little of the community feel that Stevie's has. I always loved it there and loved spending my weekends helping out at the yard just as loads if local children still do. There is such a snobbiness in the horse world: the ponies are shaggy here and the place looks a little unkempt but what the heck? They still have many of the same ponies that I used to ride being loved by a new generation of children: Midge, Showdoo, Topic. For these ponies to still be in good health and getting a lot of love and affection is wonderful to know. I can't comment on the qualifications of the instructors but will add that lessons are really going out hacking around the field with someone leading beginner riders, and there is no ménage or real school to learn traditional lessons so if you're looking for 'real' training perhaps this isn't the place for you! If you just want to learn enough to enjoy hacking in the countryside, or already know how to ride and fancy a hack instead of riding in a school then it's great for that. I improved my own riding at various other stablest along the way but got my basics at Stevie's! If I lived locally still, I would definitely still ride here.
