After suffering a fall at the age of 7 I left another stables and had almost given up riding altogether. One of my mums friends took me out for a hack on a lovely old horse there called Poppy to help me regain my confidence. After this I booked a private lesson to assess my ability before joining in one of the group lessons on a Sunday, and I have been going ever since! The horses there are absolute angels and come in a multitude of shapes, sizes and speeds. There are some lovely ponies for the children to begin to ride on and whom I would trust fully as well as some other ponies for the more advanced riders to practice jumping and gymkana games on. The larger horses are also lovely to ride and do both lessons and hacks for all levels of riders. Each horse is different to ride and you never feel like you're put on a horse you can't manage, the instructors are also very understanding if you do not wish to ride the horse you are given. The lessons vary in level with some lead rein rides and some more advanced group lessons that take part in jumping and cross country. All the instructors are fully qualified and friendly and know the horses inside out. There are varying lengths of hacks available too, you can easily spend an hour on the lanes that border the stables without needing to go on the roads or there are longer 2 and 3 hour rides that include roadwork, and all the horses that do these rides are road safe. I have also been on a couple of day rides that last just over 6 hours and these are amazing! I also help out at the stables every Sunday and thoroughly enjoy this. We make sure all the horses are groomed and watered and loved as well, though we all have our own favourites! I would thoroughly recommend Lings Lane to anyone wanting somewhere to ride, or somewhere to learn as it is a beautiful stables with friendly staff and lovely horses!

Horses are well looked after and it was lovely to be allowed to go on the walk with my granddaughter and follow them around. Photos were allowed as long as none of the other riders were in them - so great safeguarding procedures in place. Granddaughter wants to go again in school holidays. Thank you to all the staff and helpers involved - you do a fantastic job!

The horses all live out and there are lots of fields that we used to ride in, I believe Stevie recently acquired more fields as well. the fact is that many people who can not afford to pay the prices of the more expensive local riding schools have the opportunity to learn to ride and to learn about horses at Stevie's. I know that my parents would not have been able to pay for lessons at other stables and so I would have missed out on what was, and still is, a massive part if my life. I have since ridden at many other stables and have found that quite often they are aloof places with little of the community feel that Stevie's has. I always loved it there and loved spending my weekends helping out at the yard just as loads if local children still do. There is such a snobbiness in the horse world: the ponies are shaggy here and the place looks a little unkempt but what the heck? They still have many of the same ponies that I used to ride being loved by a new generation of children: Midge, Showdoo, Topic. For these ponies to still be in good health and getting a lot of love and affection is wonderful to know. I can't comment on the qualifications of the instructors but will add that lessons are really going out hacking around the field with someone leading beginner riders, and there is no ménage or real school to learn traditional lessons so if you're looking for 'real' training perhaps this isn't the place for you! If you just want to learn enough to enjoy hacking in the countryside, or already know how to ride and fancy a hack instead of riding in a school then it's great for that. I improved my own riding at various other stablest along the way but got my basics at Stevie's! If I lived locally still, I would definitely still ride here.

Opportunity to jump small fallen logs/ branches in the woods, wading through the canals/ rivers and also a good canter up the hills. Small - mid size group rides and very reasonable in price... I do not want to quote the price as it has been some months since I last went but it was £25.00 per person when I did last go. The school itself is well maintained and the livery well looked after. A good afternoon out for friends or those that simply enjoy riding. Good in the autumn months when the ground in not too dry/ not too wet and it looks pretty too as natures colours are changing

AVOID THIS YARD! I did not want to make this post because I…read morehave moved on from this yard and I don't want any more trouble. However, I have decided that people should be warned against putting their horses into this yard as it would be, in my view, detrimental to the horses' welfare. This yard is Newton Close Farm in Newton Regis, Tamworth. It does have nice facilities including an indoor school, horse walker and outdoor. However, the way it is run is very worrying. Fences that are broken are not fixed, even after weeks of liveries asking. Horses could escape and get trapped in the broken fences very easily, and there is a motorway next to the yard! Very unprofessional conduct in terms of horse care. While a groom was coming, she took care of the horses very well. When the groom was not there, the owner did not feed the horses on time, i.e. 3.45 pm as I was told, nor are the horses turned out on time. The horses are often not fed until 5 pm. Not enough hay in the stable overnight, I have to top up, which I do not expect to do on livery. I have a big horse, but it was kept on a tiny field with a pond and the ground is completely saturated with water. It was kept there for over three weeks! While the owner promised to fix the broken fencing in her supposed paddock. It has been four weeks and nothing is fixed. Most alarmingly, my horse was turned out by itself, which I have previously stated that it cannot be turned out alone. Sure enough, it was afraid and destroyed most of the fencing. After confronting the owner, she denied it was turned out alone, even though it was quite glaringly obvious. She demanded that I fix the fence! My horse's rug was ripped open and it was very scared. I became very concerned with her safety. Overall, the yard has potential to be nice, but with regards to the owner, I have been met with nothing but lies. Also it is nearly impossible to get your deposit back. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
