The North West 200 is one of the biggest, best and most popular events held on the North West of the country. It is THE BEST CRAIC, even if you're not in to bikes, it's a great and fun day out for the family. Thousands of people come to watch the brave (crazy!) racers speed round the 200 mile long track (Aah, so that's why its called NW 200! ... Funny the things you learn!) The course runs between Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine. It can get pretty busy so be prepare for crowds, book your accommodation well in advance!
The event is held annually in May. There's a week long festival held around the race week which provides lots of family fun days out, motorbike and car shows, model competitions, children's amusements (and so on!) I've been to the NW every single year for the past ...I can't remember! But it's great; I'd hate to miss the fun! There have been some sad times too. I was there in 2008 when racing legend Robert Dunlop (brother of Joey) tragically died after his crash at Mather's Cross. Though it was great to see Robert's son Michael win the 250cc two days later, poor lad. I remember back in 2000 seeing Joey ride out on what would be his last North West, though it was thrilling this year seeing Scottish lad Stuart Easton breaking the fastest speed record, at an amazing 204mph!
I can't recommend this event any more! I'm sure many of you will have been yourselves, but if you've always though about going, make sure you do some time! It's a great, crazy event which will guarantee you some fun, frolics and flippin' fast bikers! read more
