Hiked up and across, ate the lunch we'd brought at one of the umbrella'ed tables near the playground, and then the skies opened up; drove back to Manhattan on an almost flooded Bronx River Parkway. Grandson back for a visit this year, wanted to go back! Zipcar got more expensive, so I followed the directions on their website using public transportation. DON'T! The website says take Metronorth to White Plains and then a Bee-line bus, #6, to the Dam Plaza. We found the bus stop, and the schedule said 11:43. Perfect, right? Not. 12:43 came and went. Other buses came and went. The #6 never showed up, so finally we took a taxi for $20.00. Took 10 minutes to get there. Better to take a train to Valhalla and walk the less than a mile or Uber for 8.95 or something like that. Watch the schedule for going back to Grand Central, because in the afternoon it seems to run just once an hour. Plan accordingly. Otherwise we had a good time.

And recently this year, I started exploring the NCT and SCT after a quick loop on the BRP. A portion of the trailway in Ardsley look like under construction (gravel) and I believe is part of the SCT. This is where I first started exploring this trailway and just rode 4 miles north for I am not yet familiar and not sure what to expect. On my next rides I gained some confidence and started exploring further north and was able to reach Yorktown Heights border. I should have started this back in mid-summer but was so focus on the BRP loop which help me improved my laps time but I am not in that pro category... yet. I recommend this trail for cyclist/cylcing-lovers and who loves nature's beauty in Westchester. I am impressed on the improvements that were made in the NCT yet be still on the lookout when you cross the roads specially by Briarcliff Manor area. Alway make yourself visible (use lights) and be corteous to the joggers and fellow cyclist.

Despite my best efforts in the past to do Fall train rides, which turned out to be disappointing only because there was never any good colors on trees, this by far is the very best fall foliage experience I've ever had in my life. You get great views of the tree color transitions and just great photo opportunities. It does get cold on the water so bring a jacket. Experience is as excellent as last time with beverages and snacks for purchase. If you enjoy fall colors, great scenery and boats then you have to do this at least once.

Despite traffic being the main issue, this is a great parkway to travel on. The scenery on this…read moreroad is the main attraction for sure, with a mix of the country to explore in certain parts of the parkway. Easy to say, it's not hard to miss it all. It's a great idea if you're not familiar with the area to have a map handy because most of the exits will be a short distance from one another. With that and the parkway, it is narrow containing tight turns which do indeed require caution, to avoid any accidents. I personally don't have any issues traveling on the road, except, I don't travel down here as much. Also, in the summertime, take advantage of their bike, and walk, which is run on Sundays from 10am - 2pm on the parkway. This definitely adds more flavor to the experience.
