Misdiagnosed. Dr Patel insisted pain was from my spine, not from hips. Wrong. Would not xray hips as requested by phys therapist...because he was so sure. Wanted to give me a shot ...in my spine. I declined. MRI and hip xray (from another provider) showed that I have bilateral trochanteric bursitis. (Hip bursitis, both sides). My impression is that NSPM is like an assembly line. While Dr. Patel and his staff are professional and personable, after undergoing two test runs of painful injections in my neck (for insurance purposes), the final procedure of a neck injection only provided a month of relief, when it could have potentially provided over a year of relief. I was told this happens and was going to pursue further treatment, when I had to have a hysterectomy due to a questionable tumor. I was chastised by a technician at the practice for using painkillers after a hysterectomy, as if I was a common drug addict looking to score. That is not good care, in my opinion. I'll never go back and haven't sought pain relief since. read more

I developed complex regional pain syndrome that goes from my neck down to my left hand after a steroid injection was attempted causing permeant C6 nerve damage. I am left with a cold skinny pale/purple painful Atrophied hand and arm!!' And in addition all of the medical expenses that go along with us very severe injury. I have been going here for a few years now. I have a severe injury to my neck. Dr Patel is the one that does my procedure. I have had many Dr's for my neck. But Dr. Patel is the best one I have had. I love going there because everyone there is incredibly pleasant. Everyone is very caring and on the ball. You need an appointment BOOM I have my appointment. This place is good for shots but pain management with Irina Shevts it sucks!! Don't ever get her. She lied on my urine test and said i was taken morhine along with my oxcodone. Never happened!!! This pain clinic is no good!!!!!! Now I have to find another pain clinic that will take me. I have been on Perocerts for 10 years because of my arthritis is so bad. This PN Irina first tried a patch, which didn't touch the pain. Then she tried one stronger, that don't work. The they tried me on Xtamza which was doing all right. My Primary Doctor sent me there last year!! I was on Percocet for 10 year before this frecking place. And why do they send my urine to a place in Texas??? 1-star for administration. Have tried for over 6 days to get a cortisone shot (should be routine for a Pain Center, right). I kept getting passed back and forth between their office and insurance. Turns out they didn't submit proper paperwork to my insurance to approve. But they never even looked into that fact rather kept passing me to my insurance company to approve the shot. It was their fault all along. AND They told me that once approved they'd call me to schedule an appointment. NEVER GOT A CALL. I had to call after I knew it was approved to schedule an appointment. PCP referred me after spinal fusion for residual pain. Spent 2 hours doing the required paperwork only to be gaslighted with phony empathetic sighing, was so annoying and I knew I was in trouble. Apparently Cancer is the only pain worthy of pain medication. Spinal cord injury is the most pain I have ever dealt with, far beyond child labor. Then they just treat you like a pin cushion for the large pay out. Pain medication doesn't make them money and they are not aware that people in pain can actually take medication as prescribed, everyone's gonna be a drug addict in their eyes. There is a difference between dependency and addiction. People are being forced to the street to seek pain medication when they are poisoned by Fentanyl laced fake pills. Stop letting them call it overdose, it's not, it's poisoning. I am tired of prolonged surgeries so Dr.s can get their money for injections. If pain patients start canceling these procedures and demanding what actually works for them, with safety and certainty, like pain medication, you will see change. read more

After 2 yrs &11 mos: still Positive for the facility, Dr Minesh Patel is Nice & RN Jacque is nice, too. My Updated Review, though is lowered to a 3 from a 5 is because They cannot manage my Chronic Pain, which was the reason for going here back in 2015. Dr Patel provided the same "Treatment" over time but it proved effective for only a few months, at best. He said there was Nothing else he could DO. RN Jacque manages my O.A., which can be done by my PCP. I can't say I would or would not recommend North Shore Pain Mgmt. I'd say it depends on the situation. We addressed many ways to heal my back with different options of treatment from injections to physical therapy to surgery. I am a patient at the Woburn location and, during my treatment period I would have given more stars. However, after a week of having neck pain that progressively keeps getting worse, I called the Woburn office to get an "urgent" appointment. I told my story to the receptionist and she says, "Can you say that again?" I repeat my story and she says, "so, you need an appointment?" I respond with "Yes, or go to the hospital!" She tells me I can be seen on March 18, and of course my response was "Are you really serious?" I find it ABSOLUTELY disgusting that I would have to wait 6 days for an urgent appointment! I honestly believed that a pain management practice would be more sensitive to the patients that they "treat." read more

I was referred to north shore pain management by my pcp. When I told her my experience she said I wasn't the first to report back negatively. I was told she would no longer refer patients to them. I started with them with low back pain. Had the shots under conscious sedation. Minimal improvement. When I reached my insurance limit I called to discuss this per my physical therapist. Neither Dr Patel nor a nurse practitioner would return my call. I was told I would have to make an appointment and come into speak to them. I could barely walk and couldn't drive and said so to the (rude) receptionist. Still could not get a call back. At one point when getting an injection and saying I wasn't getting a good result I got a snarky "so what do you want? Surgery?" From Dr. Patel My physical therapist recommended Newton Wellesley Spine Center. They took one X-ray and saw one vertebra 3/4" off the one below. NSPM never did a simple X-ray. I ended up scheduled for spinal fusion surgery and finally got relief from 9 months of unnecessary pain! NSPM also pads their bill and or insurance claims by doing the steroid shots under conscious sedation. At the NW Spine center that is not their norm though they will if requested. There is no need for conscious sedation if the prqctitioner knows what they are doing. DO NOT go here. They are the rudest, most uncaring practice I have ever come across. Switching to NW showed me how real medical professionals work. They are responsive and caring. A complete 180 from my experience here. read more

Not one, not two, but five bulging lumbar discs brought me to see Dr. LoMonaco at NSPM about 10 days ago. On a scale of 1-10, my pain level was way above 10. I was in so much pain that for two weeks prior I could not sleep. What a mess I was when I first met Dr. LoMonaco. My pain level was extremely high, and I was so afraid that lidocaine injections before a prescribed cortisone injection would send me flying off the treatment table. But no. Dr. LoMonaco saw to it that I would not suffer. He was gentle, kind and compassionate, and I was so grateful. Further, the cortisone injection I desperately needed worked almost immediately. Yes, I have a bit of residual aching from my left hip down to my shin, but compared to two weeks ago I am 99 percent better, and chiropractic treatments with Dr. Lee Zohn will help. Dr. Patel and the other clinicians at North Shore Pain Mangement are wonderful. I have been a patient of Dr, Patel for almost ten years, and the excellent care I have received from him and the other clinicians has allowed me to have a productive and pretty normal life. The office staff are also helpful and pleasant. I have been in many other pain clinics in the Boston and North Shore Area, and Dr. Patel and NSPM is the best by far. Dr. Patel and the other physicians are compassionate, honest, and skilled. All of the procedures I have received to alleviate pain and maintain function have helped tremendously. The Nurse Practioner, Irena Shivets, has helped me through some very bad pain periods in recent months, and I have been able to work almost full time despite my back, joint,and neuropathic pain. Do not trust these doctors with your precious body, EVER. They are dangerous. I went in with lower back and hip pain and first was given a test injection for a nerve block and I did not pass. I was surprised at the procedure: You are "prepped" in a room adjacent to the procedure room, and your doctor does swing through and say this and that and then leaves. You are then brought to the procedure room and the fluoroscopy table by one of the staff members in scrubs. Lay down. Then your doctor (mine was LoMonaco) comes dashing in in his street clothes (fresh from a meeting with a patient, I am sure), tosses on an Xray apron, comes over to the table, does the injection, and is gone within a minute. And you are out of the building within 15 minutes if you did not get sedation. My second injection was an epidural spinal injection. Same process as described above. When Dr. LoMonaco did the injection, it felt like a freight train was driving down the nerve path. OMG the pain was unbearable. I of course said so and he said "Oh, that will stop." I went home and within 2 days I was in level 9 pain that would not quit. We called and called and they would do nothing, never asked me to come in for them to see what was going on. Never offered pain control. My bladder was completely incontinent for 5 weeks. Standing up and trying to move my leg was torture. I went to my two week check up with Amber, who had a bunch of platitudes. Her office looks like a child occupies it, not a medical professional. The pain has lightened a bit, but not enough, so I've had to go to MA General for help. They uncovered the problem right away: The shot hit the nerve dead nuts on and aggravated the daylights out of everything in its path. I am still in pain and probably will be for another month or two, at which time MA General will consider the right treatment for my back. I can stand up for a total of 5 minutes, can walk for 10 minutes, with a walker. I am in constant pain in my lower back, hip and leg. I am completely crippled now. It makes me give a star. This place has got too big, they don't care about the patient or their pain. I started going when they first started up they had a tiny place with like 3 rooms. I thought Dr Patel was a caring dr but turns out now it's all business. All about the money and not about you anymore. They pass you off to practitioners now that don't care at all about helping you. If you ask to see Dr Patel you get "you can't see him anymore you see his associates now. I was seeing one for quite awhile and felt bullied and wasn't getting help from her. It always seemed to be an argument with her. You try to explain what your feeling and you get no where. Then you get threatened when they control your pain medication. And get told it's addictive. I have been on LOW doses of pain medicine. I'm not a child nor do I appreciate being treated like one. When I cancelled my last appointment and explained that I wanted to speak with Dr Patel I got no where. My primary called several times with no response. So it's a shame that this place has become too big to care about the patients there treating. I have spoke to patients while waiting in that office and have heard plenty of people saying they have been bullied also. I thought it was just me but it's not. Other patients have also talked about the waiting and the threatening about medications also. I am now seeing someone else that is helping me. I really did like Dr Patel but I can't see him anymore and obviously he doesn't feel the need to talk to me to find out what happened with my situation. It's very sad to hear about Dr Fields. I simply cannot say enough about the team here! I needed a MBB with an RFL if it worked. I was supposed to get these treatments on my back when it went out. Twice I called the place I was supposed to go, New England Baptist, and they couldn't get me in for almost a week. Fed up, I just started calling people and stumbled across these guys. From the second I explained my situation to Theresa, she was amazing! She got me in for an appointment the next day and scheduled me for the test the following day. I met Dr Patel and explained to him that I was afraid I may have new insurance at the end of the month and might not be able to have the procedure then. It was less than a week before the end of the month. He said to me "not only are we going to get your test done, were going to get you treated by then!" and he did! Went in for MBBs on Friday and Monday and had the procedure on Wednesday! Everyone I encountered there went above and beyond. All the nurses got IVs perfect on the first try. They did great putting me out and managing my pain during the procedure after they saw how painful my first test was. I have a rare allergy, I'm allergic to the cold, and even though nobody there had heard of my disease, they all took extra care of me to be careful not to trigger a reaction, from putting on the heat to warming up instruments. Everyone knew me by name when I walked in the door! This is treatment I've never experienced in a doctors office! I'm not 100% sure if the procedure worked. I have a horrible back and this was my last hope before multiple surgeries to keep me mobil. But, I'm feeling good and I'm hopeful. I could not recommend a better place to see for pain! I was in intense pain with a herniated disc flare up. My primary care referred me here but without sending thru my medical records. Once i arrived at the office, the front desk staff realized the problem and spent over an hour tracking and getting my medical records faxed thru so the dr could make the right decisions during my consult. I ended up getting an injection 2 days later. The process was painless and the nurses were super helpful and friendly and doctor Lo Monaco was super engaged. I'm sure he performs a lot of these each day but i still felt like he took the time with me. The next day I received a follow up call to check up on me and I'm feeling tons better. The office staff was so rude and Dan was so incompetent that I didn't even get to see a doctor. I was 3 minutes late for my first appointment and the staff was having a meltdown. They insisted that I have a co-pay when I don't. They kept referring to my insurance as Network Health when the name was changed a long time ago. I was scheduled with Dan for the initial consult. I asked him if he had reviewed the spine MRI and x-ray that were in my records. He told me that he had looked at my PCP's notes on my medical records, but he had not had a chance to review the images (he could have looked at them during the 3 minutes that he was waiting for me). He then described a minor surgical plan that would be performed for treatment even though he did not review the accurate picture of exactly what was causing my back pain. How could he designate a procedure without even looking at the MRI and x-ray? I was told that my procedure would be scheduled once they received a pre-authorization from my insurance. I hadn't heard anything from them a week later. The woman in that department told me that it was sent in, but it takes a long time to get a pre-authorization. I knew this not to be true because I've had many health issues during this past year and pre-authorizations were always received in 3 days. I called my insurance company and they looked for a pre-authorization request for several minutes. They told me that they had never received one. I decided to change practices and asked for my records. They wanted me to make an appointment to go in and get them which would cost money. I have limited transportation, so I asked them to email or mail them to me after I filled out an authorization for release of medical records. I was told that they could email them to me at a charge or fax them to my new provider without a charge but they could not mail them. I reminded them that I had a right to my records. Then they changed their story and said that they could not email them to me at all because my connection might not be secure. After all the aggravation, I am emailing them authorization for release with instructions to fax my records to my new provider. We'll see how long this takes, if it happens at all. I wrote the review below in a state or frustration. After going there today and being treated by the staff and Dr. Patel I realized I had to update it. What I experienced when I wrote the review below is a reflection on an individual that probably needs some training. It isn't a reflection on the entire organization. I say that because my experience today reconfirmed for me that they really are elite in their field. So I'm not taking back the review below because it happened, and I still don't like it. But I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong and correct the record to reflect that the quality of care, conscientiousness, and empathy of the people that comprise this organization are second to none. I'm giving 2 stars because I'm leaving there annoyed...again. Check in: A; Dr. Dan K: A+; Check out: F- Why? The conversation goes like this: Me: Can I get the earliest appointment possible? Lady: No Me: How about on a cancellation list? Because, you know I'm in 24/7 pain and my muscles are atrophying. Lady: No Me: Why not? Lady: Billing has to approve you. Nothing is going to happen until then. We'll call you. Me: So once that's done can I just get the soonest appointment? I don't care who does it. Lady: No you have to see Dr. Patel. It's your insurance. Me: OK so when can I expect to hear something? Lady: Billing will call today and someone should reach out to you tomorrow. Lady: By the way it says you aren't getting sedation. If you do we can probably get you in faster. Me: Wait what? Why would that matter? Lady: it's how the scheduling is done. You should think about getting sedated. Me (in my head): that's the singularly most stupid thing I've ever heard. And when something is that nonsensical in healthcare I always suspect it's about about making $$. Me (out loud): Umm, OK I'm good. So there you have it. Hey I get it's a business. But hearing that my incessant stabbing pain isn't as important as getting the billing approved and that nothing happens until that gets done isn't what I want to hear going out the door read more

I used to see Dr. Field years ago in Danvers. Thought I would try them out in Beverly and was seen by Dr. Lomanaco. I was suffering with severe lower back pain. I was put on hold when calling...even hung up on. That was the first red flag. After several visits, actually 11 total, for 3 procedures, I thought that was excessive. After the first 2 procedures, which I was told they were diagnostic, I returned for the 3rd. I had hoped to get in sooner for these procedures because I was in pain waiting 7 months to have all of these done. The first procedure I assumed Dr. Lomanaco would do...another Dr. came in who I never talked to. I felt I was not listened to and rushed. Not a caring place to go if that's what your looking for. I am now in more pain then when I started going there. I was also told by the Dr. to rate how I feel 'better' then I did or else insurance would not cover the diagnostic. read more
