Not a whole lot of folks participate so you spend most of the time on your own on the trail (which is not a bad thing). The trail itself is wide enough to run multiples across (i.e., not single track throughout), is rough in patches (i.e., rocky, uneven, muddy), and very hilly with some very steep elevation changes (there is no way you can run the whole course unless you are superman/woman). The loop itself is only 6+ miles long so there are race distances that basically align with the length of the trail (half is 2 laps, full is 4 laps). Running the same loop 4 times can be a little repetitive but the scenery and wildlife keep it interesting. Tech short sleeve t-shirt comes with entry fee. Nice medal to finishers. Probably not a destination race, but if you live in the area a race worth checking out.

This year it was sold to a new organizer and the start and finish was moved to the the new Bucks Stadium Fiserv Center. Great venue for a large event like this. The race was also moved from fall to spring so it was an excellent goal to get in extra training during the frigid winter months. This was my first time doing the Milwaukee Marathon but I thought from start to finish it was very well organized, a great course, nice swag and after party.

A fun race to mix up winter running routine. (Throughout the weekend there is a full, half…read moremarathon, and 5K.) The race takes place around the Pettit skating rink in Milwaukee. The number of participants is capped so the course doesn't feel overly cramped. It is also fun to be able to see the fastest (and the slowest) folks during the race as they pass you or you pass them. Volunteers / race directors are really enthusiastic about the event. Music is played through the rink sound system, which helps to keep the energy up throughout the race. Nice medal to finisher and entry fee includes a long sleeve tech t-shirt. Race is a bit on the pricier side (~$100), but I suspect that is because it is somewhat pricey to operate an event like this (i.e., facility rental, insurance, etc.) vs. the race organizers making a lot of money off of the entry fees. (I don't have any inside information on that point, just a gut feel.)

They did have packet pickup on the day of the race. The don't hand out the chalk packets until the end though. Throughout the course are people with large bottles that spray and throw the chalk on you as you go through one of five areas. I highly recommend wearing a bandana over your nose and mouth. The course was good around the Miller park parking lots and Hank Aaron trail. We also got a nice medal for finishing. It is nice too that they support local charities.

And it was free. Along with that, they also provide very inexpensive coached training programs for everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes. Their website includes the most comprehensive local race calendar, and their regular races are extremely affordable (some as low as $5 to enter.) I'd say Wisconsin is really fortunate to have a group like the striders.

I was looking for a nearby trail to go cycling on a recent Sunday and found the Lake Country…read moreRecreation Trail. Running 15 miles, we hopped on the trail in Delafield and enjoyed a 7-8 mile bike ride before cycling to a spot for dinner. It was a great evening! The trail is well maintained, has some inclines, and is flanked by trees and green fields. We passed walkers with dogs, walkers without dogs, and other cyclists. It wasn't by any means busy, but seems to be well loved. Would definitely explore more of this gem of a trail nestled in the heart of Delafield. Get to it!

There is ample parking and a short ramp without curb for bikes to get from the parking lot to the center and then the trail. The water fountain was running and the restrooms were clean and had supplies. The trail basically starts at the center. It goes for 15.2 miles on an all paved asphalt road. It ends at W. Jefferson St. and S. Franklin St. in Oconomowoc. The bike trail is hilly and changes up and down. It won't be the easily 15 mile (30 round trip) bike ride you'll do. It does go through Pewaukee Lake, Nagawicka Lake, and downtown Delafield.

This is a my second year at the Color Vibe 5K. Why the downgrade? The event needs to be better…read moreorganized. You have to pick up your race stuff the day before or you have to pay a fee. Very inconvenient if you work as they close by 6PM. Every walk I do there lets you park in the interior of Veteran's park. They must not have gotten a lot of parkers last time so they blocked off that parking. I didn't bring my purse with me because it's a race. Luckily I had my hubby with me. We had to park about a 15 minute walk each way for street parking (and we were there by 9). That on top of the 5 K means I walked over 4 miles. I was in the first heat but the pink color station was running out of pink color. That means all the peeps behind me didn't get any. It's an ok course. They need to announce beforehand where the runners should go as walkers were getting trampled. Walking on the uneven grass doesn't feel good on the ankles.

This is a very functional trail that begins on canal st sort of in the "valley" created by the two sections of the sixth street bridge. (If you're coming from the north and end up at the roundabout and Conejitos you've gone too far.) It really starts on just a sidewalk so its a little easy to miss. (There's also a loop that goes around the little "peninsula" the Harley museums is on.) Also, for reasons I can't comprehend, a winding ramp down (labelled "hank Aaron trail") from the top of the sixth street bridge, had a pretty impenetrable concrete slab placed in front of it. Maybe flooding or it was too windy? I needed to get out to 60th street and national (roughly) on my bike and was thrilled to find this trail! The start of it is pretty industrial and a lot of it is just next to the street but it worked great for my purposes and provides a lot of different types of scenery. (Industrial, forest, Miller park, etc.) Speaking of which, pretty sure you can take a right at the "valley passage" (see pics)& get over to miller park. It also takes you right past potawatomi casino (more money for the slots - less for gas!) if you're into that sort of thing. Its overall pretty well marked Some gals at the gym came on the trail from the west (New Berlin! ) and said rumor has it that the portion of the trail around the zoo interinterchange may be closed for several months during construction. (Can't confirm or deny this - but just a heads up.) Overall a nice addition to the parks system.

Took this fantastic trail from the Milwaukee Public Market to West Allis, almost 10 years ago…read more Hadn't been back on it until a few weeks ago. We walked all around with our dog. This is just an outstanding feature in a city that caters more to cars than anything else. Such a great addition to Miller Valley, where there is so much industrial history. I see the effort that had been made to involve the immediate community in building and growing this trail and surrounding areas. Now that I live nearby, I'll be here for the Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup.
