In another practice, Dr. Gibb is amazing as well, but he is retired now. My Cataract surgeries were a total success last year with the amazingly calm and most professional Dr. Mizoguchi preforming them at Mad River Hospital. With Medicare and Partnership Medical Taxi got me there and back home. Now I can see the TV, the computer print, normal sized print and most restaurant menus without glasses. I can see to drive as well, but DMV small print on the eye test says I need to wear glasses. I did get glasses at Six Rivers Optical (Medicare reimbursed about $120), for small print and to see small street signs in advance. There is a shortage of Ophthalmologists up here. If you are fortunate enough to get an appointment with Dr. Mizoguchi, I highly recommend him. Besides being very nice, he explains everything in layman's terms. Years ago, I was diagnosed with macular degeneration in the dry stage. Keeping it at bay with eye vitamins (Ocuvite plus extra C, plant-based E, melatonin, a variety of organic vegetables, Wild Caught Salmon, etc.) has kept it at bay for 10+ years. Dr. Mizoguchi was shocked to see a Macular Degeneration Drusenoid had shrunk as well. He showed me the blown-up picture showing that. I believe Acupuncture helped too, but we need more studies on this. As far as all these negative reviews, I have never heard of any of those Ophthalmologists at this Humboldt Medical Eye Associates practice. Perhaps I was not paying attention or maybe they have this practice mixed up with someplace else. Everyone has ALWAYS been kind, efficient, and knowledgeable with assistants and the office staff as well. Let's hope we get more Ophthalmologists up here, as Dr. Mizoguchi is taking care of 4 counties. This does not affect his ability to be an excellent surgeon, to be kind to everyone and to give each person the personal care they deserve.

Dr. Gibb is an amazing Ophthalmologist. First of all, he diagnosed me with the very beginning…read morestates of Macular Degeneration about 10 years ago, and told me to take (at that time 2 Ocuvite/day) to keep it at bay. Macular Degeneration runs in my family. Grandma, Mom, and one aunt who lived long enough to age also had it. They lived independently. Well, Mom and my Aunt lived independently, despite it. My aunt had a big fancy light at the table where she did her business. Giving up driving was very hard for my Mom, but I lived close by and came to take her places on the weekend. During the week when I was working, Mom had a driver, and she learned to take the bus. Low and behold, because of me taking Ocuvite daily for all of these years, my Ophthalmologist I go to the last couple years said my eyes have improved!!! Thanks to Dr. Gibb's excellent care for years and excellent diagnosis equipment and knowledge of what one needs in nutrients to keep the eyes healthy, I have kept Macular Degeneration at bay for all these years. He also scared me from ever smoking another cigarette, having always been quitting, then something making me angry and bumming just one cigarette would get me back in the grip. I don't care if it is true or not, but Dr. Gibb told me in his charming way of talking: "Smoking causes Macular Degeneration" That scared me and made such an impression on me that I have never picked up another cigarette since he told me that years ago. Thank you Dr. Gibb. You are the best!!! Never picking up another cigarette, is helping in other areas of my health too, like being able to breath properly without wheezing and avoiding lung cancer. There are new recommendations from the National Eye Institute I received last year (2022) to continue to keep Macular Degeneration at bay. PreserVistion has the up to date vitamins but they took out the Omega 3 sardines and anchovies out of their formula. Why? Doing the math, I supplement what Dr. Gibb told me back around 2015, with one extra Ocuvite a day than he recommended (3) to get most of the up to date suggestions of Areds 2 Vitamins recommended by National Eye Institute. To make up the rest, I supplement with extra E & zinc, plus eat good food with these vitamins, minerals and omegas. Also good is eating Wild Caught Salmon and other omega providing foods. Researching online, I found all the vegetables that I already eat to get the rest of the vitamins from food. I told the makers of Ocuvite that they need to remove the Titanium Dioxide from that formula; it has been banned in Europe. Please also call to ask them to do that. It is only there for appearance. Who cares what is looks like, if it means potentially harmful chemicals are in our foods and formulas. I can't say enough about how nice Dr. Gibb is. During my very first visit to get my annual check up with Dr. Gibb, they sat me in a room after getting my eyes dialated (drops before exam where they look into all parts of the eyes with advanced technology exam equipment). If I remember clearly, I told the ladies in the room for the same reason I was that this was my first visit. At least three ladies were raving on and on about how much they loved Dr. Gibb, how their Cataract surgeries went fabulously, and that they trusted him completely. That made me feel even more at ease, as I already felt comfortable meeting Dr. Gibb, and always had a good impression in the years following. He was kind and professional, he had a great chair-side manner (upbeat to put one at ease), and he answered all my questions.
