I was here for a 4 months temporary work assignment, so I got to know the neighborhood, apartment and the staff well. I would recommend staying with them any time. Though with my job assignments, I will probably only be back in Albuquerque for a few days or a week at a time. When I contacted Southwest Suites, and another rental office looking for temporary housing, I was impressed by response time from Southwest Suites. The website was pretty clear to navigate, and once I sent a response form reply, I was contacted within an hour with a list of apartments, with attachments of photos or a web link to the apartments. The options were a wide range of locations across the city, and amenities, from fully inclusive to totally unfurnished. This period of time between sending an email and receiving a response was the norm; the other rental office would take up to a day or two to contact me. Once I selected and apartment, I stopped in the office to pay my deposits and fees, and the staff were really friendly and outgoing, and professional. Working for the federal government, I had to wait on my Per diem and housing allowances to work right when paying my rent. The office was very accommodating when I had a delay on my government credit card for payment. I had some maintenance issued with needing light bulbs replaced. The apartment I chose had 10-12 foot ceilings and I was provided a two-step step stool to try to reach these fixtures. If I have a complaint, it would be about the maintenance call. Southwest Suites, is linked to a nation-wide corporate rental/management company. My maintenance person had to come back to the apartment twice to resolve my issue. The first time was them showing up without a ladder, and not knowing what kind of bulbs were needed. A nation-wide company should be able to have a list of simple things like light bulbs and fixtures in each apartment. In addition, they should provide maintenance with a truck that is equipped with large ladders and bulbs and the like. This part of the review, is for your information about Albuquerque, and East Downtown, and is something to be aware of, and nothing that Southwest Suites can control. The apartment I selected is on Copper Avenue NE. This is located one block off Central Ave, and Broadway. It is across the street from the old Albuquerque High School, now townhomes and rental apartments. The location is very good. Several restaurants of great quality are almost across the street. There is a small grocery in walking distance, and Smith's (a Kroger Company) grocery store is a mile away. Downtown, with movie theaters, shops and other amenities are a couple blocks away. This part of town is up and coming and changing, so I did see some transient people, but the usually ignored me, or would say hi or good evening and nothing more. The neighborhoods in the High School, and house owners were very friendly, the residents of my building were not unfriendly, but never spoke to me. The one drawback is the parking in this neighborhood can be hard to find. You might have to walk a few blocks. I would recommend if you are there any length of time, like me, that you get with the city and rent a parking spot in the nearby parking garage. The apartment is also near the hospitals, so there were a few times the emergency helicopter noises got to be much, but there were very few sounds from ambulance arrivals. The apartment itself was great; it is a small studio and just the perfect size. Again, the noise factor was there. The building is fairly new, but was not insulated between floors. So I had a heard of elephants quite frequently visiting upstairs; which is funny since I saw the resident couldn't have weighed more than 90 pounds dripping wet! The amenities are very comfortable. I especially liked the fact that it was a Temperpedic bed, which I have at home! I did have to re-arrange the furniture in order to watch television comfortably, but having wood floors that was easy to do. The silverware provided is cheap, so I had trouble getting ice cream out of the container without damaging any of the spoons. The dishes and pots and pans are nice quality, but are showing their age and starting to scratch or chip. The color is definitely dated. There are some spots where the white primer is showing through. It is about time to get rid of the bright-burnt umber color. I did not inspect the apartment before I went shopping, and that was a little mistake, I bought more than I needed. Many things are provided, so if you are in for a short time, you only need clothes and your food. If you are staying long-or-short term, like me, here's somethings I found missing that you will need. Garbage bags, the company only left what was in the cans. Dishwasher machine soap, again they only supply two. Cleaning spray or wipes, for the entire apartment.

La Casita Rosada is ideally located between Old Town and Downtown Albuquerque and it makes it really easy to rub elbows with the real Albuquerque. My experience started off on a real positive note making the reservation with Susan the Inn Keeper. She was charming and really knows the area. I made the reservation on the website and she followed up with a phone call and got me excited about the trip. Trust me, that has never happened making a reservation before. La Casita Rosada has just been redecorated and I was actually quite impressed with the work they did. It has a full kitchen stocked with utensils and spices, although I have to admit I mostly just ate out while I was there. The bathroom was much nicer and far more spacious than the hotels I have stayed in when visiting the hotels here in the past. It was really convenient having the office area set up and the free wifi with out all the pesky signups the big chains have really was refreshing. I was actually able to get some work done. You have your own private entrance and the outside is separated into a covered patio area next to the main house and a back patio area where I could still get the wifi. Susan was able to give me some great advice on where to eat. Actually the website has quite an extensive list of local dining and I mostly referred to that. They were friendly and I will definitely come again for sure.

Why should residents concern themselves with such things? I pay rent for routine maintenance that keeps the property looking nice and working properly? I bought a new furnace filter and changed it myself. My electric bill went from $56 to $45 in one month due to a $3.00 filter! I feel air coming from the electrical outlets in my room when the wind blows hard. The carpets in the hallways are severely soiled from oil that seeps out of the asphalt in the parking lot and is tracked into the building. There are also many drink spills on the carpets, and the carpets never get vacuumed! Run your finger across the top of boxes of hallway fire extinguishers, thermostats, emergency lighting, and art frames. Your finger will be black from dirt that's been there for years. The elevator never gets cleaned. The floor gets mopped when someone vomits on it. As the sun rises early in the morning and the elevator door is opened, you can clearly see how filthy the interior is. Fortunately I don't often use it. Also, when the sun is low in the morning you can barely see through the grime on the east facing windows by the elevator and the office. The sidewalks and staircases need to be cleaned because of the oil tracked from the parking lot asphalt, spills, and bird-poo. Commons area bathrooms frequently run out of toilet paper, hand-towels, and hand-soap. The temperature gauge on the west gas grill in the pool area has been broken for at least two years. Never mind that there are no posted instructions about how to operate it. You must turn on a gas valve and a timer that is located behind a panel below the grill. 'Not at all obvious. Exterior stone veneer, mostly around gates, has been missing from walls in several places for at least two years. Several pool-side table umbrellas have been broken for at least two years, but they are still there and unusable. March 2024 a resident waited two weeks to have a malfunctioning washer/dryer replaced. A resident's apartment heater was malfunctioning. It took the entire winter to get it replaced. The Mulberry Street vehicle gate, one of two total gates, frequently malfunctions. The manager says, "We always have problems with that gate". There was no snow removal or salting of sidewalks after winter snow storms. March 18: A street person jumped the perimeter and pool fences and lit two couches in the pool area on fire. The urchins frequently get into the pool area, watch TV, sleep, and use (trash) the restrooms. Some exterior stairwell security doors leading to resident's apartments don't lock. Fortunately the arsonist didn't enter one of those doors and light fires near resident's apartments. A catalytic converter was sawed from the exhaust system of a resident's car. Feb 2024: A car was stolen from the property. Presbyterian Hospital heliport is across the street, so you better like helicopters 24/7. The shared community gas and electric bills are outrageous. Unnecessary lights are always on. The pool is always heated even in the middle of the winter. The pool is seldomly used in the winter. There is a large garage door in the office area. The manager frequently opens it in the summer even though the air conditioning is on. These utility charges are in addition to the rent you're quoted. There is absolutely no attempt to conserve energy and to reduce residents' costs. You will be opted-in automatically for programs that will cost you. Beware the hidden costs! Their renter's insurance won't cover your contents or temporary living accommodations. It ONLY covers damage to their building. This last weekend the Wi-Fi I had been using for many months was gone. Later that day I asked someone about it and they are now using a different Wi-Fi. The information is posted by the coffee machine. I don't drink coffee. Three maintenance workers have walked-off the job in the last 6 months. I knew one of them for a long time. I was very disappointed that he left. Presently there is no maintenance staff. I stopped using the pool and hot tub, because the chemicals aren't being checked. Packages delivered to the office frequently get misplaced including medications labeled "refrigeration required". Early April many Olympus employees from different sites went to Puerto Vallarta. Corporate parties are frequent and lavish. During 3-4 day weekends or when there is no maintenance staff, the dumpster fills up and residents have to pile their trash on the ground. There are no facilities to charge EVs. Cleanliness and general maintenance has been in a steep decline. Rents are extremely high despite the poor condition of the property. The gym has very limited mirrors which is odd since most gyms have at least a few full length mirrors, but this gym only has a few and they are all only good to see your upper torso and above. The Pool and Hot Tub are both nice. Now for the bad. The water pressure is sooooooo low. My shower only delivers about 1.1 gallons per minute. The shower heard is low flow and designed to deliver 1.75 gallons per minute. I removed the low flow restriction apparatus which did not really improve the water flow. I suspect the problem is two fold low pressure from the city and hot water is delivered from the third floor. I have asked and they said there is nothing they can do. This is shameful considering the price of these units. The units and all gates/doors are only opened by way of an app or entering code.
