I read, and without doing my due diligence, trusted what the owner (Dallas Hawkins) wrote in the…read moreEbay ad and told me on the phone. The ad said that "every nut and bolt" had been replaced ... that he (Dallas) had driven the car and it was perfect. I paid a premium price ($29k) for the car. NOTHING, as I found out, could have been further from the truth and I bought the car based on what Dallas told me and put in the ad. The first problem with the car was the front end suspension that had been spray painted for the photos to make it look new ... it was falling apart. I had to replace the ENTIRE front end (shocks - one shock tower - ball joints, idler arms, A frames ... EVERYTHING). Then it was the totally worn out brakes. One of the return springs was worn so thin that it was on the verge of snapping at any moment. I noticed the clutch didn't work correctly. Well, the throw-out bearing was put in backwards which, as you likely know, meant that I had to pull the transmission to find out. Several teeth on the distributor gear were chipped almost completely off. Soon after the car arrived, the paint on the hood started to develop little "fish eye" pools. Although Mustang convertibles are not the most stable bodies, there was a vibration in the car that made it feel as if the front left tire was coming off the ground at certain speeds. I balanced all tires/wheels off of and on the car ... nothing worked so I then replaced all the tires (TWICE!!) and all of the wheels. I finally had to add frame tubes and a Monte Carlo bar to stiffen the body. The drivers side rear window regulator broke the first time I used it. The horn rim on the steering wheel was not installed properly. The glove box door was not installed properly. The entire dashboard needed re-wiring. The thermostat was the wrong temperature. The air cleaner canister was from a 260 CI engine and this was a 289. I'd not trust this guy if he swore on a stack of bibles. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE to buy a car.
