I took 2 classes at the same time and spent 2 hours every thursday with Andrew going over anger management and parenting, the classes should be a requirement for anyone that is married, the 500 dollars I spent on both will be insignificant if I have an opportunity to exercise what I have learned with my wife. The one on one option is something I was not able to find elsewhere and I called about 10 places given by google results... Andrew was exhausting himself making sure the course was as applicable as possible to my situation. The document are available on the internet but organized and presented in a fashion that permits constructive self improvement. I wish someone advised me to have taken these courses before. Looking at the other reviews I may need to disclose I went to the Milwaukee Avenue location just north of Irving Park but cannot believe the other locations are worse as I have met management and they are sincere and honestly wish to only improve the lives of people. Who ever wrote the negative reviews probably didn't take the anger management courses but should. The parenting class, unbelievable how many things I could have done better. It's our children, they deserve the best and 5 hours of my life is nothing compared to the positives these courses will have on their and my wife's life.

I feel it's a cash grab. Remember the more information you give someone the more likely they will recommend more treatment which equals more money , time. Communication is hit and miss and they have an ever rotating staff of volunteer interns which means the person teaching a class will not be there the same day or next day to answer any questions as they are not a permanent employee. At first I thought this was going to be easy as they make it very easy but it became a nightmare for me and my family ,after paying $700+ the company and owner "Anna J." tried charging me an extra charge of $200 for a class I had already completed and paid. The nightmare is still going on to this day since they went against the Judges request and tried issuing me more treatment time after private 1 on 1 sessions with a counselor. I wasn't told I was being evaluated during those sessions and in turn I was told I needed more treatment than the court ordered. More treatment equals more money. Just be careful doing business with these people and keep all paperwork, receipts and remember STAY PRIVATE KEEP YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO YOURSELF. P.S. These people are here only for your money, the classes are between 30-45 mins as they are suppose to be 1 hour and you learn nothing. They do the bare minimum and send you packing.

Very simply, my life had become unmanageable and I could not stop using drugs no matter what. I tried religion, psychiatry, and medicine and none of those was sufficient for this addict/alcoholic. When God gave me a day clean, I apprehensively moved in to Stairway to Freedom. With their help, I was able loose the desire to use drugs AND find a new way to live. It was here that I met Allan and Mel! Both of them are my recovery parents. They loved me until I could learn to love myself. Sometimes they even used tough-love on me and that is exactly what I needed. I came in off the streets. The two of them and the Stairway community broke my old attitudes and ideas. That is what "recovery" is. It's not just abstinence from mind and mood altering substances . . . it's an 'active' change in one's attitudes and ideas. Not everyone is ready to change the one thing that's necessary to recover: EVERYTHING! I'm certain that those who've written a poor review of Staiway are those that weren't ready to look at themselves and their self-centered behavior. I pray they may find the happiness, joy, and freedom that Stairway to Freedom provided me. - Paul S.

The women's house is beautiful and cozy and located near many meetings. The sense of community in the house is probably what stands out the most. The residents and management are very recovery and mental health focused. Residents often go to meetings together and spend time together in the common areas socializing and supporting one another. The residents are treated with respect by management and given a great deal an independence while also held accountable. I would recommend Stairway to Freedom to anyone serious about long term recovery.

Working from a place of both acceptance and encouragement to continue improving, Julie reminds you to take time to celebrate that you're doing the work of healing without belittling the toll that healing can take. I have always felt that I've made progress after our sessions. Witty and kind, she is more than willing to give outside reading from multiple references--but asks first if you would like that. She has a great vibe, and her active listening and perception cuts to the core of the subconscious without asking leading questions. She's very open about her positionality and influences, which allows you as the client to plenty of room to agree or disagree and get out of therapy what you need. Working with Julie naturally increased my body awareness, and I feel my relationship with my body has begun a process of healing I didn't know it needed. I can't recommend Julie highly enough--for her calming and grounding demeanor, her warm presence, her intuitive perception, and her gentle encouragement to sit with my emotions and honor every part of myself without judgment. Thank you, Julie, for all of your incredible help!

I usually don't take the time to go out of my way to write reviews. But, seeing as how Dr. Lynch…read moreplayed probably the biggest role in assisting me in my sobriety and actually getting my life back to relative normalcy (which it your suffering with an opiate addiction you know that it sometimes feels like you can never get back to), I really feel that I must share what a wonderful Dr. He really is, especially after the terrible experiences that I've had with others in the field. I came to the office, expecting someone cold, busy, and maybe someone who secretly looked down on me for being addicted to drugs. (You would be surprised even in this field how common that is. He's completely different.. And that's why I've been with him for years now. Dr. Lynch looked me in the eye, asked questions in the least judgmental way, not only heard, but listened, to my responses. He cares, and it shows. I had been an addict in recovery with a prior relapse and good amount of sober time before that, so I was familiar with certain drugs and therapies that other Dr's had tried. He actually let me plan my own treatment.. With his guidance and input, of course. He listens, he cares, and he helps tailor treatment plans to your specific needs, requirments, based on your input and prior experiences. For the hopeless opiate addicts out there trying to quit using, first I'm so sorry, I know what your going through. I've tried to quit cold turkey many times, only to find myself feeling defeated and lacking will power when after days and days of every muscle and bone aching, nausea, inability to eat or good food down, even hydrating was difficult, restless and twitching legs, headaches, funny nose, insomnia, watery eyes. Oh yes, I remember and my heart is with you. Now as someone living a normal life I feel it is my responsibility to share what saved my life. I came out of detox and long term treatment and headed to the city for sober living. After all that clean time, you would think that I wouldn't mess it up. And yet, the whole drive out to the city to register at the half way home all I could think about was scoring. "Luckily" for me there was a problem with registration and I needed to have a prescription for Suboxone before being admitted but no Dr would see me for along time. So, I pick up my bags with no further plans than going to find dope (because my body was still so off and the cravings were still hypnotic) I hadn't felt right in my mind or body since I last used, over 3 months.. On my way to score, Dr Lynch called and told me to come on in that we would get everything sorted out for sober living. On no notice at all, he prioritized me and my situation right away, not even knowing I was steps from a relaps. I had friends that have used suboxone with great success but if course didn't think it would work for me. Opiate addicts!!!! It works!!!!! The most selfish thing that I could do is not scream it from the rooftops! If it were not for Dr. Lynch and the way he practices medicine and actually cares about his patients, I don't know where I'd be. I thought I was one of those people that could never feel good enough in body and mind to have a normal life again, without using drugs. Suboxone also has a generic now and every day sober is a blessing. Cravings were instantly cut by at least 85% right away, which was enough for me to put in the last bit of work. Body pains, 90%+ gone, comfort of knowing that I couldn't use (or it wouldn't work if I tried) was such a relief, and a sense of calm in my mind, like a normal human being, without the high feeling. I checked into my sober house, continued seeing Dr. Lynch and going to meetings, got a job, paid taxes!! Felt good to have support and finally be stable again in my life and Dr. Lynch played a huge role, he is a great Dr. I'm clean 4+ years now, moved , suburbs and have a rewarding life, still seeing him of coarse. Whew, long review!! Lol Alexandra F.
