We purchased property at 36 Ave SE and Hwy 9 in Jan 18. So happens it had a beautiful wrought iron gate with a massive LiftMaster remote controlled operator installed by Norman Garage Door for the previous owner/builder.
I talked with Darren at NGD about adding options to the opener such as a keypad for entry and a traffic loop, or in this case a magnetic sensor, for exit. I thought his bid was a bit excessive compared to some of the other prices I got however they had good reviews and are a LiftMaster dealer so I went with them. They came out in a timely manner and got everything installed, programed and working great. Darren even came back out a couple of months later and helped me reprogram codes in the keypad.
Nice guy, very knowledgeable and never seemed hesitant about sharing his knowledge.
Here's what went wrong;
After paying $$$$ for new equipment and installation I had a problem with the magnetic exit sensor. It stopped working. People could get in but couldn't get out. Now if you are running The Hotel California or a Hostel in Amsterdam (LOL) that's not a bad thing but when you're away and your propane company needs access onto your property, they also want to leave without having to climb the fence to put their code in the keypad. So I called Darren at NGD...
He said they were very busy with overhead doors and that gates were kind of a sideline for them which they may have to cease due to how busy their garage door side was. That's not what I was told when they wanted me to buy their equipment and that's not what their website indicates. He said he would get back with me when he could get to it. So I waited a little over two weeks before I called back at which time Darren was out so I left a message with whomever answers the phones there and requested he return my call... at 3+ weeks he still had not returned my call so I called back again.
This time I got directly to Darren, not bothering to apologize for not returning my call he said he would be out the following Wednesday.
Here's the real kicker;
It took him about 5 minutes to correct what was wrong... 5 MINUTES that I had to wait 4 weeks of some serious inconvenience for... 5 MINUTES.! And when I (quite nicely) said something about how long to took for them to service the equipment they sold me Darren unapologetically and quite abruptly told me that they were going to have to quit servicing gates because the overhead door business was so good. So if you have a gate problem these are not the people you should call. If you want a new gate opener, these are not the people you should call, they will sell you the equipment then not service it. I wonder how long you can go selling warrantied equipment then not servicing it because your too busy selling it? read more
