Fantastic ice cream experience! I really enjoyed the texture and consistency of this ice cream. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the flavors initially; I thought the toasted rice tasted a bit too toasty (hard to describe) and I thought the ube w/ Vietnamese coffee had too much coffee flavor. The ice cream flavors did grow on me as I continued eating though. Each ice cream also comes with a topping and a drizzle; I got the mochi and the black sesame drizzle, both of which I highly recommend. I think this combination of toppings helped balance out the ice cream nicely. I believe this is a family/individual owned ice cream shop; the lady at the counter was super nice and friendly. I'd say they're the best asian flavored ice cream spot in NYC right now! My sister got me a pint of Noona's Ice Cream (Yuzu Blossom) before they opened this brick and mortar and I LOVED it. The texture was smooth, and the yuzu flavor was authentically present, not too sweet, and really honored the good quality ingredients used. When I heard this place opened a shop in the EV I was soooo excited to try it, and finally made my way out over the summer. The Strawberry Lychee was a hit, a perfect blend of the two flavors and exactly what I expect as someone who grew up eating lychee. It wasn't too sweet, and again, the perfect texture, but dense and heavy enough to be regarded as the ice cream we know and love. The Black Sesame oreo was equally inventive and delicious, sharing aspects of both the cookie we are used to, and that buttery nice black sesame flavor that honestly was a good combo. It was opening a few weeks before our upcoming weekend trip to NYC and perfectly a few blocks from our hotel. I told my husband, "Alright, let's check it out and add it to our list" We came for dessert after our dinner date and ended up falling in love with all the flavors. Toasted rice? Pandan? Ube Vietnamese Coffee? Black Sesame? All flavors I love and seek to find. The Banana Pudding Mochi was also addicting and my husband's favorite. Italian Rainbow Cookie I personally attached myself to because I love almond flavors in things and the chunks of cookie were a delight in each bite. Unique toppings and drizzles like the black sesame drizzle or the caramelized rice crunchies are ones I haven't seen yet. Each order comes with a topping and drizzle (or you can two of one type) to really piece it together. Night one I got Ube Vietnamese Coffee, Pandan, and Banana Pudding Mochi in a cup while my husband got Italian Rainbow Cookie and the Banana Pudding Mochi. Day two, my family came into town and I kept raving to them how they had to try this spot too...so I came back with the whole clan. Their favorites were the Strawberry Yuzu, Ube Vietnamese Coffee, and the Toasted Rice. Not gonna lie...I loved the Toasted Rice on my first night too and was banking on hoping my family would agree to come with me so I could get it again. The Toasted Rice ice cream works perfect with a drizzle of black sesame syrup and the Caramelized Rice Crunchies. Between the 7 of use we bought 5 single scoops to share. It was PERFECT. My husband even got a black sesame black and white cookie which he's savoring every bite of. While the store ran out of matcha raspberry, hearing it was due to waiting on certain ingredients shows that Noona's takes quality seriously. Day three...because we have a family event in a different state coming up...the family said bring some pints. So we came back, bought 5 pints of ice cream, and now they're in my freezer for our family holiday party later this week. Each time we came back, Shantel was a joy and positive energy. Her hospitality and cheerful smile made coming back each time even more fun. Learning about the story of Hannah Bae (owner) through the Eater article makes it even more heart-warming to support entrepreneurship and local businesses. We didn't get a chance to try any cakes (yet) knowing those will continually be added is exciting! My sister exclaimed this is the type of cake she'd want for her birthday (and duly noted). Hope anyone reading this review enjoyed the story time of how I found Noona's and got quickly obsessed. Was pretty stoked about finding a place in the EV with a plethora of Asian flavored Ice creams, so when I noticed that they close at midnight I made it a point to drop by at the end of my evening. What could be improved: - there were only 2 ice creams available by the time we arrived: vegan matcha and honeycomb. unfortunately, the honeycomb ice cream, as mentioned by our helper, is just turmeric ice cream with honeycomb bits...which was disappointing. - barely any toppings left at all by that time of the evening. we were able to at least order the rice crispies and a strawberry drizzle. What rocked: - the employee who took care of us was sooooooo sweet and friendly. she was very informative and helped us make a decision. - rice crispies topping was soooo hard. it was like chewing on rock candy almost--I expected it to be kinda like the little rice crisps they have in chocolate bars or even rice krispy treats but alas, it was pretty offputting. while it was fun to eat in small bits, some of the bits were huge and even seemed a tad bit stale. I was highly anticipating being able to try the pandan coconut ice cream with mochi and a caramel drizzle so this was pretty disheartening. Our ice cream was nothing particularly special. It was a little too thick and heavy on the matcha side but also became very messy afterwards. After reading some of the reviews on the ice cream, I feel a little discouraged. I would assume Asian-influenced ice creams would know that their general customer base prefers dessert as "not too sweet," but it seems like they haven't taken this into mind as much due to some people's 2c. The texture of the ice cream was good, although less gummy than what I prefer. Loved how both flavors weren't too sweet either! Besides scoops, they also offer pints in the back among other baked goods that I plan to try in the future. The store itself has limited seating in the back and a counter for standing customers. This place is super cute and small. I came here and waited on line for about 20 minutes and let me say it was definitely worth it. This place has amazing and unique flavors.
