This review is LONG overdue, but the Nomad took us out for our 2nd charter last year and we asked if they had heard of any whales in the area. We went straight out into the bay a few miles and ended up in the middle of an Orca pod. It was absolutely amazing. Several Orca's breached right by the boat. Not only were we blown away, the crew was just as excited. Can't recommend the Nomad enough. It's fun, casual and very intimate with just 6 of your good friends/family on board. Don't wait, book it now! And yes, I got my thumb in our only group picture.

What a fantastic sailing adventure! We did a midday sail with Captain Helen and her mate Apple. Perfect weather, fun and informative stories, and we felt totally taken care of. It was so neat to watch the surfers at Steamers Lane from the water, something that those of us who don't surf never see. And we couldn't have asked for better weather - and the perfect way to celebrate a 40th birthday! The captain and crew made the experience even more fantastic, thank you!

My friends and I had an absolute blast on our sunset sailing tour with Brian! We saw sting rays jumping out of the water, sea otters, seals, dolphin and even a momma and baby whale. Brian is a great captain, conversationalist and guide. His daughter even made us lemon bars from their lemon tree. He has sleeping bags for cooler nights and plenty of space for our party of six. All the necessary amenities were on the boat. I would highly recommend Nomad Sailing Charters for an enjoyable day on the Pacific.

This is hands down the ONLY place in Santa Cruz for you to go out and enjoy a day on the bay! Captain Brian and First Mate Dias made my bachelorette #lastsailbeforetheveil the BEST day in the entire world. We rolled up with champagne, sailor hats, and high heels and the men made us feel like a million bucks. Props to First Mate for always being ready with the camera for a photo opportunity. They were even so kind as to be flexible in the timing of the boat ride, which ended up being totally cosmic as we saw whales jumping up after a big sounding. There was popcorn, lemon bars (made by Admiral Elsa or Eloise-- Brian's daughter), and we brought plenty of snacks. The three hours was a perfect amount of time to see everything and we even got to have a small dance party aboard. Thank you Nomad!!!

If you want an amazing tour around the Santa Cruz Bay, this is the charter for you. If you want the friendliest captain, then Nomad Sailing Charters is where you go. If you love life and sharing it with amazing people in the most scenic environment around, the call Captain Thom. If I could live on this boat, I would!!!

Pacific Sail - ASA 101 sailing class returning after a fun and educational day on the water.

Absolutely phenomenal ASA 101 experience with Pacific Sail!…read more I had the pleasure of learning from Dylan and Darrel, and I couldn't have asked for a better team. Both instructors took the time to thoroughly cover the material--balancing hands-on learning with classroom-style instruction (Darrel even led lessons right in the hull of the boat!). We practiced tacking, jibing, tied a variety of useful knots, and learned all the parts of the boat in a way that was both fun and deeply informative. Even during wild weather (30+ knot gusts that caused racers to retire their boats!) and a brief engine hiccup, the experience was safe, empowering, and invaluable. I learned not just the textbook approach to handling situations like a man overboard, but also real-world knowledge--like how to troubleshoot engine issues (thanks, Dylan!) and who to call in a marine emergency (thanks, Darrel!). Dylan's patience and steady encouragement made sailing feel approachable, even when conditions were intense. Darrel brought humor, depth, and thoughtfulness to every moment--together, they're a truly outstanding teaching duo. I also had the chance to meet Kate, another instructor, who was all smiles and incredibly helpful, waving while passing up on her tow boat and then cracking jokes to Darrel when she prepared for her Chardonnay crew to take off. On land, Natalie and Ethan from the front desk were warm and welcoming. Natalie and Ethan even walked me over to the boat with my coffee in hand to make sure I didn't get lost. I left this course genuinely feeling like I have a solid foundation in sailing--both in skill and confidence. I highly recommend Pacific Sail to anyone looking to start their sailing journey. This team is the real deal!

He did the Naval bell ringing. He brought some roses. First, I let go off the Urn while both of us scattered the roses we brought. He brought yellow roses. I took Red rose petals. After we scattered them, we were able to see and follow the Urn with the red rose petals and the bright yellow roses closer to the Urn. He navigated the boat very gently and able to see the Urn. The morning was quiet, sunny and calm. It was extremely calm during the entire time, he navigated around the Urn, getting closer to the floating Urn. It was calming me to see her floating surrounded by flowers. My mother was slowly but surely sinking. I watched her floating, while Mike took few photos and sent them to me. Mike also honored my mother with "Naval Bell Ringing". It was a very nice, beautiful, sunny and calm morning for my mom to be floating on the ocean water. Thank you, Mike, Scott and Krista for sailing my mother and me to the Sea and sharing the most precious moments in our lives. John was our skipper who provided us sailboat training 101 as well as kept us entertained. He was a fantastic story teller. John is living the dream after graduate school and working in the corporate world, he decided to retire early and do what he loves, sailing. So inspiring and I hope I get to do the same, retire early, travel the world and learn culture through food. Each of us rotated navigating the sail and driving the sailboat. I must say coordination is definitely essential and good listening skills is a must as each of us got the opportunity to work as a team. After sailing, Spinnaker provided us with a wonderful bbq treat over at their conference center. It was delicious. I had the opportunity to get to know our team up close and personal, caught up with what they enjoy doing outside of work environment (tech), and it was a great way to share each other's passions. I highly recommend coming to Spinnaker for a company retreat, or simply take advantage of a family and friends get together. They provide lessons, group discounts including one on one, boat included, and you even get to sit next to their awesome skippers who will assist you to navigate the San Francisco Bay waters. We all had a fantastic time, and we can't thank John, our skipper for his excellent service and to all Spinnaker staff who was responsible for a memorable time. Cheers!
