We did a combo Wildlife / Sunset cruise. While I geeked out on the fabulous Westsail 42 (a boat I have always dreamed about) and Skipper Sam patiently indulged me in boat details, my friends were able to enjoy our beautiful bay in a relaxed, comfortable and SAFE way that was the highlight of their Santa Cruz visit. I cannot speak highly enough about Nomad, from the ease of booking, Sam's professionalism (on and off the boat) to the local area knowledge. This review is LONG overdue, but the Nomad took us out for our 2nd charter last year and we asked if they had heard of any whales in the area. We went straight out into the bay a few miles and ended up in the middle of an Orca pod. It was absolutely amazing. Several Orca's breached right by the boat. Not only were we blown away, the crew was just as excited. Can't recommend the Nomad enough. It's fun, casual and very intimate with just 6 of your good friends/family on board. This is hands down the ONLY place in Santa Cruz for you to go out and enjoy a day on the bay! Captain Brian and First Mate Dias made my bachelorette #lastsailbeforetheveil the BEST day in the entire world. We rolled up with champagne, sailor hats, and high heels and the men made us feel like a million bucks. Props to First Mate for always being ready with the camera for a photo opportunity. They were even so kind as to be flexible in the timing of the boat ride, which ended up being totally cosmic as we saw whales jumping up after a big sounding. There was popcorn, lemon bars (made by Admiral Elsa or Eloise-- Brian's daughter), and we brought plenty of snacks. The three hours was a perfect amount of time to see everything and we even got to have a small dance party aboard. Thank you Nomad!!! read more

As a mermaid I have come to rely on The Nomad as my vessel of choice for ocean adventures in Monterey Bay. The Nomad is a handsome vessel and a comfortable ride even in big water. Our first trip with The Nomad was for my mom's birthday last year -- we went sailing out of Moss Landing ahead of a big storm. That was super memorable. The Nomad is ideal for small groups. For my mom's birthday, it was a really special to have a private charter rather than getting on a larger boat with 30 other people. For most of my adventures with The Nomad, however, I am rarely on the boat. As an open water swimmer and a habitual shenanigator, I've come to rely on Captain Brian and The Nomad for safety support. In 2016, Captain Brian and The Nomad escorted our pod of six swimmers from Capitola to Santa Cruz (wharf to wharf), from Santa Cruz to Capitola, from Moss Landing to the Nearshore Buoy. Captain Brian is the best! He notified me in advance that the weather would be foul on the evening I had booked a trip, and kindly offered to reschedule my trip. As I was getting ready to sail, I locked myself out of my car parked at marina. Captain Brian assisted me in every way possible to get my car keys, then we set sail for the smoothest and loveliest sail I've ever had! WOW! Nomad was SO much fun. We were there for a bachelorette party and not only did they bring us as close to the sea action as possible (whales, dolphins, otters), they were incredibly nice and personable. I very much enjoyed the friendly banter, our ability to bring our own snacks and booze, and the ride. Not to mention they make a HUGE pot of popcorn! Plus, we even got homemade lemon squares made by Captain Brian's daughter. It was the perfect hospitable touch. First mate Diez was always looking out for photo opportunities for the group. Nomad Charters was the BEST experience I have ever had on the ocean. Brian has a calm, relaxed demeanor, even though he is sailing a very large sailboat (43 feet long)! He took us out of the harbor in Santa Cruz and directly to our reason for chartering him...Great White Sharks! They were everywhere! Such amazing animals! We even watched a 14 foot female swim directly under the bowsprit! Brian is very knowledgeable and he made the trip relaxing and educational. I highly recommend the Nomad for any of your adventures, from whale watching trips, memorials at sea, private tours, swimming shenanigans, etc. I've sailed with Captain Brian a few times for different swimming adventures in the Monterey Bay from Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Moss Landing. The Nomad is so comfortable, myself and several other friends slept aboard for memorial day weekend, even though I live 20 minutes away- it was really relaxing. I have another adventure in a couple of weeks with the Nomad! Brian is a knowledgeable, experienced, professional and fun captain! He seamlessly chartered our successful Monterey Bay relay swim from Santa Cruz to Monterey on September 22nd, 2018. He monitor conditions to help us pick the perfect day, set us on a straight course and paced our swim. As swimmers, we felt confident with him as our captain, definitely put us at ease with nothing to worry about but to just swim! Not only that, the Nomad was extremely comfortable and accommodating for such an adventure.
