All main courses come with a salad. It is a really decent sized salad that works well as a starter. The one we had was mixed lettuce dressed in a gorgeous dressing, grated carrot in a pickle dressing, cabbage in another dressing and a little pot of beetroot. For mains I had the mandel butter forelle. It was the best cooked fish I have had in Germany. The fish was very fresh, it was however, german style, swimming in butter. But it was a really good portion of fish with steamed potatoes. It was a little bit too greasy and the lemon was too small but apart from that I really enjoyed my dish. The boyfriend had the turkey Züricher art. Basically strips of turkey with mushrooms in a cream sauce with a potato rösti. It was maybe a bit too heavy but really tasty still. To finish off our meals we shared the home made cherries in kirsch with ice cream and cream. This is a real grown up dessert. The cherries tasted more of kirsch than cherries and was a bit too strong. It was quite a nice combination with the ice cream but it is not something I would have again. Tarte flambée (Flammkuchen in German) is a specialty from Alsace and Lorraine, Saarland and neighboring Palatinate and Baden. The basis of the tarte flambée is a very thinly rolled-out base of bread dough. It was called flambée or tarte flambée because it was just kissed by the flame of the logs (I understood thinly rolled-out dough was used to test the temperature of an oven--if it gets dark, the oven is too hot; if it doesn't get baked enough, the oven is too low). The edges of this "ultra thin-crusted pizza" (my term) was rather crispy and burnt (photo; the oven may have been tad too hot), but it tasted very good with well-seasoned veggies on top. The creamy white cheese sauce was not too thick, but it gave a very nice texture and flavor. Overall, it was a very simple meal with very good taste. Service was rendered by a very happy man--at least he seemed so. He was going from a table to table like busy bee taking care of his customers.
