We entered Nola Desi Kitchen and there were barely any lights inside. They charged us $34.68 for two buffets and automatically included an 18% gratuity in each buffet selection. That is a joke. They did this to all their customers. None of the dishes( chicken quorma, nihari) had any meat in them, all they had was soup inside of them with NO meat. The chicken biryani was plain white or colored rice because it had no chicken in it. The buffet dishes were served in small crock pots enough for just one person and were not re-filled upon numerous requests. They stopped bringing the food out and and customers were unable to get food. This restaurant is ONLY good at re-filling plain rice, bread,and re-filling water.I did not even get the spring rolls which were just bought out once and were gone in a minute.I generously pay gratuity at a restaurant if the service is good but they knew after the service they have given, nobody would even give a tip so they automatically charged all the customers 18% gratuity. I brought the automatic 18% gratuity to the manager of the restaurant along with the fact that the buffet dishes were never filled and I was unable to eat as a customer. I will never go to this place again. Save your money and go elsewhere. I have attached my receipt. Look at the automatic 18% gratuity on the buffet. Amazing & authentic, according to the Indian friend I ate with, thank goodness he was there, or else I'd have not know what to order, lol! He rates it the best he's had in the whole area & I can certainly agree. We shared several appetizers, one main entree, & dessert. Everything was warm, fresh & extremely delicious!!! And very well priced! We were expecting it to be a little slow so we called ahead, also because we were coming in about 830pm & didn't want them to stay to late for us. We finished around 930 & never once felt rushed. It's a quaint family run place, the service was a little slow, but not at all bad, extremely friendly, helpful, showed us some pictures of other dishes. Place doesn't look like much initially, but the food is really great and the owner is very courteous and welcoming. Highly recommended for those looking for good Pakistani/Indian food. I definitely recommend the Butter Chicken and the Biryani. I'm normally not a Biryani fan at all, but their Biryani is delicious! Among other things I've tried, their beef shish kababs, goat karahi, beef nihari and their halwa puri platter offered on weekends. For smaller dishes, both their beef and chicken samosas, and papdi chaat are delicious. No complaints about anything. As for sweets, their kheer/firni was excellent. Edit: I recently tried chargha chicken as a limited time weekend they offered. It was excellent. For anyone wondering, chargha is a little different because of the lengthy marination and the way it is cooked. read more

(2.5 stars) Spicy chicken tikka masala, beef samosas, and an order of hummus for a little over $20. Their chicken tikka masala didn't match my expectation of the dish based off of the other few restaurants I've had it at. What appears in Google Images for the dish is what I know. Large pieces of delicious chicken covered in a spicy sauce, maybe some rice. Their version comes out like scarce chicken shreds swimming in spicy tomato soup. It tastes good but after quickly eating all the chicken it's just a big bowl of spices. Beef samosas were flaky and delicious but the ratio of pastry to beef was underwhelming. Delicious but disappointing. Love the hummus. Too bad they don't tell you it doesn't come with naan, or anything, to eat it with. Nope. Nope. Nope. If you're a restaurant, you don't get to serve boxed frozen foods straight from the microwave and charge people. (Samosas) You also shouldn't be using the microwave on every dish... at all?? The shower curtain they have up to shield you from the kitchen was open and I got to see the questionable preparation until they closed it. Doesn't stop the sound of the microwave beeping though. We went for lunch. It was empty. The atmosphere can best be described as you're an unwelcome guest at someone's home. Their whole family is there, with children. They are busy entertaining the kid and forget they have customers. We waited +10m for the check, I eventually had to go up and ask, and waited 5 min for him to stop scolding his child and notice me. The food isn't great but isn't objectively bad either (except for the frozen hard microwaved samosas) I could see using this as take out. Naan is good. Price is decent. The American staples are alright. Just don't stick around to dine in. read more

One of our favorite stopover for a to-go or snack when at New Orleans airport. The aloo paratha is delicious and good portion which comes with a great green chutney and pickle. We also like the chai and veg biryani! The space is small but good location and on way to airport. read more

Tastes like my grandmother's cooking- this place is a hidden gem. I visited Desi Kitchen a few times and everything I tried was bursting with flavour. The biryani was amazing- the meat so tender and the serving size absolutely massive. Potato samosas were a great start, Chicken 65 kept the bar high. If you catch them on a weekend, the mutabbaq will hit the spot- hearty, delicious, filling; wash it down with their made-fresh mint lemonade and you'll be hooked! The restaurant is spotless, the customer service is top notch, and they're serving up the best food of their kind in the greater NOLA area. I look forward to returning and trying the chicken korma and some of the BBQ dishes. It it will be difficult to forgo the chicken biryani but what I've learned so far is that every dish from Desi Kitchen will exceed my expectations. read more

I love this place. Highly recommend the Bengan Bartha, a sour eggplant curry. The samosa chat, chicken 65, and naan are all great too. I couldn't tell you what the vegetable curry of the day was that I ordered one time but it was fantastic. I bet they make these up every few days so get it if you want to try something new. Why does one go from 2 to 4 stars after only a second visit? Well, as I said in my first review, I wanted to give this establishment a fair chance because other reviews were generally different from my first experience. So, I stopped in again to see who was right--the devotees or me. As I was in a hurry to get to the airport, I asked the gentleman at the counter to recommend a dish available immediately. We settled on karahi goat (karahi gosht) and naan. I was blown away!!! This was by far the best karahi dish I've ever eaten. The spicing was just right and well balanced and the meat was tender. As I said to the gentleman, I'll be back. My comment from my earlier review about the shami Kabab stands and I wish it to be a constructive comment. I was there in New Orleans for a week for work and fun. Being a regular Indian food person, I got time to check out couple of Indian food places (there are not many for sure ). On my way to airport I stopped by at this place for lunch and took biryani, chicken wrap and samosas to go as I was landing late in San Francisco. Lunch was very good with a good conversation with the owner. Also, the food we took for go and my dinner in San Francisco was still very delicious. Came here with some friends for a quiet dinner. Clearly a family joint and there were a number of menu items out for the night which lent more that the feel of the joint is that you are eating what they decide to cook in the kitchen. That is not a complaint - what is coming out of the kitchen is top notch. I usually judge a place by their dal makhani and this was best I've had in a long time. Y'all this place is tasty. Like real tasty. We wanted to try a variety of dishes and both people who took our order kindly offered suggestions. A simple salad was served, but honestly I could have done without it. At the suggestion of our host, we ordered beef samosas, which came with a tasty yogurt sauce. They arrived hot to the table. We wanted to try one of the lamb curries, but they did not have it today. Instead, we tried the goat and tomato and pepper curry (karachi gosht) as well as spinach paneer. These are both excellent, and made a lovely combination. Each dish comes with a large naan bread. This naan was larger and crispier than naan that I have had at other Indian restaurants. For drinks, I had a mango lassi, and my eating partner tried the hot tea. The lassi was deliciously thick, but the tea was not really our style. Everything was so delicious, and even though we had to pack a box to take home with us, we still were too full for dessert. However, given the diliviousness of the rest of the meal, we decided to take dessert to go too. An excellent decision. Their special, milk dumplings, is crazy good. Seriously, so good. It's somehow light and rich at the same time. How is that possible?? The kheer is tasty as well. Decor is very nice, but the two TVs detract from the environment in my opinion. They were playing some loud sports station when we got there, but thankfully that was changed to a movie. Personally I think some music would be just perfect.
