They have a bunch of quick little hot drink + food combos, but I usually get the croissant a la plancha and a cafe solo (espresso). The people who work there are attentive and quick. They tend to work at such a fast pace that they ask multiple times just to make sure they have your order right. The outdoor seating is right on the street, next to a metro station, and several crosswalks, so it can get noisy. However the inside is more insulated so you can actually hear who you're talking to. It can get snug inside at times since the space is pretty crowded, so expect to get bumped into a couple of times. They also have sandwiches, but I haven't tried them yet, but their combinations sound good.

My daughter & I stopped in to grab a quick lunch and each ordered a sandwich. They were…read moredisappointing, having barely any fixings/content... resembling a bread sandwich. They were definitely below average. However, the real issue was we also ordered "calamari", and pointed to the person next to us who had that appetizer (see pic). Unfortunately, the waiter must have been distracted as he put the order in as a calamari sandwich.... we didn't know that even existed! As if 3 sandwiches for 2 people wasn't odd enough, we both ordered 'no mayonnaise' on our sandwiches, and the unwanted calamari sandwich was drenched in mayo. To make an untenable situation far worse, they refused to take the wrong dish back AND insisted we pay for it!!! While I wanted to throw the calamari sandwich at the manager, we simply left it untouched on the table (they probably served it to the next person who didn't order it). If I could zero stars I would. PS. To be fair, we did order a couple shandy's (beer+lemonade) and they were cold & good.

We were walking down the street, looking for somewhere to eat dinner on our last night in Madrid…read morewhen we stumbled upon Il Piccolino. We had a gluten-free member in our party, which tends to restrict our options. But they have an extensive gluten-free menu (in English, even!). Had the patatas bravas mixtas (yum!), a gluten-free pizza, and TWO orders of the eggplant au gratin (super yum!); it was the best thing we ate all week in Madrid. Also, the sangria was the best of the week; it didn't taste like plain fruit juice, and had notes of cinnamon. Dessert was a GF brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce and a slice of GF cheesecake with a blueberry compote. A great finish! To top it all off, the service was great. It was also quiet enough that we could have a pleasant conversation.

The second sensation was the waiter saying you can have the table for 1.5 hours in English. If we were Spanish where they may stay all night but clearly he knew we were not and they way he said it was a bit terse. So ding #2. However the food was actually good. We both ordered pasta (me a lasagne and my wife a carbonara) and they were both tasty. And they came out very quickly so no problem getting out an 1.5 hours! The drinks were ok, I have had better Tinto de Verano. My wife liked her Pinot Gregor. They had gotten a bit busier as we were leaving, but again no farewell, I even had to move out of the waitress's way as she rushed by. So service meh, food decent, and pizza looked good. Might do a take away pizza if I went back.

Fratelli d'Italia serves some very reasonably priced, high quality pizza. You can either buy any one of twenty full-sized pizzas which will be baked after you order, or they're reheat a slice for you. Either way the pizza is surprisingly tasty; they also have calzones and a number of other savory dishes available. Whichever way you decide to go, bear in mind that this isn't really a sit-down restaurant; they just have some counters where you can pull up a stool and eat. That said, the ambiance is clean and bright, and the atmosphere is very welcoming :-)

Trattoria Pulcinella is near the centre of Madrid but provides one of the best italian experiences…read morewe have had outside Italy. The location is heavily decorated (maybe too much?) with Italian themed art decor and other items. The interior of the restaurant has lots of tables but they are separated into smaller segments for better privacy and less noise. Service was top notch - prompt, friendly and flexible as we fitted in our toddler into the table too. Food was fresh and came rapidly. The menu is broad. There is a wide range of dishes, including many kinds of pasta and a broad range of Neopolitan style pizzas with a delicious thin crust. The actual food quality was uniformly great. All our dishes were delicious. My pizza was great. One of my wife's all-time favourite Italian dishes (Provola alla Pizzaiola - aka Cheese Soup) was available here. It is the first time we have found it outside Italy, and it was just as good as she remembered. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. We ended up here because I'd done advance planning and this was the Italian place I thought would be best, and neither of us were disappointed.

All the dishes were very good and we also ordered a bottle of wine. At the end for dessert we ordered a tiramisu and a cheesecake which were so so creamy and delicious. Once again at the end they gave us some limoncello on the house. Overall a very nice dining experience we will definitely be back!
