Worst landlord I experienced leasing from, for the following reasons:
- MOLD! There is mold in the apartments, and while I didn't see any initially, landlord was quick to blame me for the mold later in the lease. Other tenants also expressed how their apartments had mold problems, and this is when I realized that landlord will purposely hide the fact that the apartments have terrible ventilation prior to signing so that she could blame us for the mold arising within the apartment. If you wanted it clean, she would charge you to hire a cleaner to remove the mold, even though the apartment ventilation makes it impossible to prevent this mold from coming up in the first place.
- She did not care for bugs and spiders whatsoever! When I asked her to call exterminators as I was finding spiders very frequently literally all around and within my apartment, I was consistently met with the same kind of response: "Spiders are good because they eat other bugs." If I wanted to kill them, I would either need to pay for exterminators to visit the property (why she didn't already have them coming, I don't know) or I would need to pay for my own repellant. After I bought repellant, I was able to remove all spiders outside all tenants' apartments, but it still frustrates me to this day that landlord didn't take ownership for this.
- WiFi is awful, and it shouldn't be used as a selling point for the apartment! And when I told her I needed better WiFi, she began questioning why I have so many devices (as if a working engineer wouldn't have multiple electronics?). Then she said I would need to pay extra for better WiFi.
- She clearly took very little care of the property. All the plants and trees were dying, and she apparently would dissuade tenants from watering them on their own. It was clear that the property didn't have general cleaning done on it, as all the walls and interior were withering away. Some walls were replaced with a harder plastic that could bend if leaned upon. Please look into this carefully if you choose to rent a place under the Noble Group.
- I asked for a light to be removed from the front of my apartment a few months within moving in. Landlord kept responding saying that turning off the light compromises safety, but I still would have preferred for this to be removed to prevent being swarmed with moths at night and not have to pay a higher electricity bill. She kept fighting me on it, and the funniest thing was around the end of my lease, she told me to turn off the light to prevent paying a higher bill! I told her I requested to remove the light for the same exact reasons months ago, and she responded saying I can turn it off on my own with a light switch indoors (which was a complete lie, because I searched hard and found no light switch)
- I had to request her over and over again to get my deposit refund. She said she had a 30 day window to return it after my lease ended. She finally returned it after I asked her on multiple occasions.... on the 29th day. Again, it shouldn't have been this hard.
- landlord cashes in checks months after you provide your rent! This was quite frustrating when managing my own expenses and while worrying if she even received the check to begin with. A lot of times, I would worry that she would charge me a late fee, only to see the check cashed in months after deposit.
- The apartments have very poor insulation. Be prepared to overheat at night in the summer and consistently freeze during the winter! No matter what heating system you use, the apartments lose heat very, very quickly, so you'll have to pay a pretty penny for electricity.
- The parking spots are useless! There's a small sign in front of the parking spots saying your vehicle can be towed if you parked there, but with how small the sign is, it certainly did not prevent strangers from parking there at random times.
Landlord only helps with the apartment when there's an issue that's simple enough for her maintenance guy to come fix. Even then, she fought back pretty hard on some of my very simple requests, but thankfully the maintenance guy was able to come fix it. It showed that if a request was not within the bounds of her maintenance guy's skills, then she would find every excuse to not help you, even if you provided any state housing codes to back you up.
Unfortunately, many tenants also experienced the same. I saw three tenants move out during the short time I lived there. If it wasn't the apartment experiences that angered me, it was certainly landlord's terrible logic in her arguments that made me upset with the living situation. I certainly will never be leasing from her again, as both the apartment and the landlord were impossible to work with. read more
