I've been taking my dog, Olive, here for a few months now. She's almost 10 months old and is a lab/aussie mix (meaning she has a never-ending supply of energy). Olive is 65lbs already and jumps a lot, but the staff doesn't seem to mind. They know her as soon as we walk in the door and just laugh when she basically lands on the counter (like I said, Olive LOVES the staff and her new buddies, lol). I tend to bring her here on Tuesdays/Thursdays because I can't afford to bring her more often and I don't want her to get too used to running all day, just in case she has to stay home alone for an extended amount of time. She absolutely loves it and is exhausted when she comes home at night, which is awesome for me because I can be productive and not feel guilty! The price is comparable to other day camps, and this one is right down the street from my house which is why I chose it. At some point in the future, I plan on utilizing their training program, but it's over $500 and I'll need to get through the holidays before I can think about spending that kind of money. Overall, it's a great place to bring your dog if you have to work long hours. Dogs will get the exercise and socialization they need to be a happy dog. :) read more

I was very anxious about leaving my dog at a kennel that I had never used before. However, No Leash Needed watched her for four days, and it is possible that Amber was actually more happy with them! They walked her multiple times a day and sent me pictures of her playing! Amber does not get along with other dogs, and they gave her individual attention. They did everything they could to make me and her happy that she was there! I will not hesitate to bring her back. read more

I have 4 dogs all with different sizes and needs. The staff remembers my dogs and their quirks. I love taking my dogs there! I feel like the dogs are very well supervised and really paid attention to. I haven't used the overnight services but I use day camp and day training. read more

Ruggles Loves No Leash Needed!! I began taking my golden retriever Ruggles to No Leash Needed for the past couple months, only about 1 day a week, but I can say that they are great days!!! I have been able to just call that morning and they were open to my bringing him in that day. I have found myself working a bit more and wanted my dog to have a bit of fun and play time which I have been unable to provide much lately, this is a fabulous alternative for him and he really seems to love spending time there and I can say, he is exhausted from his day of play when he gets home! This is in response to the tome written by Jamie V., who undoubtedly will post a reply to what I have written, too. I know there is a big push to use reward training, but I don't think espousing that philosophy as the only humane approach is fair. I have two large labs and tried harnesses and gentle leaders, without good results. Finally, I placed them in board-and-train at No Leash Needed while I went on vacation.. When I returned to pick them up, I was given a hands-on session on how to use pinch collars for training, and I continued to take the dogs to group classes after that. Since they have undergone this training, my family and friends frequently comment on how well behaved my dogs are. So, let's assume (as Jamie states) that my dogs now have sky-high stress hormones because of this "punishment" training. Then why do they get so excited and happy when they see me take out the prong collars and leashes when we go for a walk? If they have become afraid of me, why are they following me around the house all day? Why are they so loving and friendly with family and strangers? Yes, if you only want to use reward training, then find another place. Or if you have a shy/fearful dog, then another approach might work better. But if you've just got a happy, undisciplined dog that needs to develop better manners, I think you'll get faster results at No Leash Needed. read more

My sister Ruth and I live out of town but have used No Leash Needed on several occasions with our two very active Standard Schnauzers while visiting relatives in the St. Louis area. We have been so impressed with the staff and wonderful service we have received when boarding our dogs or just bringing them in for a fun filled day of camp. Several weeks ago we came to St. Louis because our Mother had taken ill and was in the hospital. We arranged to board our dogs for a few days in order to be able to stay with her at the hospital. As her condition became more serious we needed to extend our boarding reservation for several more days. Although NLN was filled for the weekend, Shannon assured us that she would make room for our dogs and would keep them as long as we needed. Unfortunately our Mother passed away a few days later. During this stressful time in our lives it was such a relief that we did not have to worry about our dogs and that they were in good hands. We will not forget the care and concern shown to us by Shannon and NLN during this difficult time. Our dogs, Max and Libby love coming to NLN and are looking forward to their next visit to St. Louis. It is great for days when my dog simply hasn't gotten the exercise she deserves, it is raining all day, or my wife and I want a relaxing evening at home. The female trainers at the No Leash Needed facility in Rock Hill are narrow minded and limited in their range of training. Not all dogs respond to one simple way of training and the inability of these trainers to think outside of the box is a significant weakness. The "day camp" consists of letting the dogs out of their kennels once or twice a day to play with each other. They are not socialized, trained, or played with. I will not be taking my dog back here. read more

I have been through several trainers and all I have to say is I stopped looking after I found Shannon. She is professional and knowledgeable about dog behavior and training. Just took my dog there to board over the weekend. When I got him back I knew he wasn't feeling well. At first I just figured he was tuckered out from playing but I realized last night he has come down with a nasty case of KENNEL COUGH. From what I have read, dogs get it from other dogs in areas that are not clean and well ventilated. Supposedly all the dogs there have been vaccinated, they did a check on my dog, but someone must have slipped through the cracks. PLEASE do NOT take your dog there, unless you want them to come home sick. :( read more

Lucy, a husky/lab mix, came to live with us a year ago when she was 18 months old. We had never been master to a dog, and it did not take long for Lucy to master us. She is a strong dog that pulled me along on walks to the point where I was not in control. This fall, Lucy and I took a set of 3 basic lessons with No Leash Needed and it has made a huge difference! Shannon taught me how to issue several basic manner commands including heel, sit, place, and my favorite "stay out of the kitchen". Shannon came to our house to give the lessons so Lucy was taught the commands in her home environment. Shannon was patient and quickly noticed how I could improve "mastering" Lucy. We just love No Leash Needed! We got our dog as a rescue puppy. She's almost a year and a half old now. We did puppy classes to learn basic training. We've also used their day camp and boarding. Most recently we completed two weeks of intensive day training. Our dog has social anxiety with new people and can be aggressive. NLN staff have always been willing to work with her no matter her behavior. This has been such a source of comfort since our dog can't easily be left with anyone who isn't her owner. The recent day training worked miracles. Devin and Carrie are awesome!! Our dog's so much more comfortable with people and we as her owners have a much better understanding and plan for helping her be more successful in social situations. Before I started training I really didn't believe my dog could improve much less be so successful. This is a great place no matter your dog's needs!! read more

I watched as No Leash Needed prepared to open. When I saw they were opened at the begining of theyear,I stopped by to check it out for mt dog. I was warmly greated, given their information and talked about my concerns. My dog, Rufio, tends to jump fences to be where he thinks the action might be. I'm concerned that he doesn't get hurt, get out, or cause trouble. I was comfortable with their answers and the physical environment. After Rufio's assessment and orientation the next day, he started coming on a regular basis. He LOVES it! He can play with his new friends most of the day, take a mid-day rest and leave feeling good and tired. He's always ready to come back the next day. I really like the fact that they offer 1/2 day and full day care. It has really helped us out. I plan to take advantage of some of their training, also. All of the staff seems very knowledgable, friendly, caring and observant. I'm very pleased and tell everone I know. We call it "Doggie Play-Care" and we LOVE it! Thank you, Charlie H. read more

The team at No Leash needed is truly outstanding. We have now been working with various trainers with our very hard to train dog. Following the comprehensive day-training program, we have been taking advantage of the group training and the day camp at all three locations. We have been extremely happy with all of the trainers and the care our dog is obviously receiving. They work patiently at training us as well, which we greatly appreciate. Thank you for giving Harper a place to run, play, and socialize while I'm at work. Thank you for giving her a wonderful place to eat and sleep while I'm out of town. We also thank you for the two week, all-day training where she learned so much and had a blast doing so!! I leave my two dogs with NLN (west) everyday--a cocker spaniel and a GSD. The staff at NLN provide exceptional service. The greet me and help me with my dogs as I come through the door. They know me by name and are genuinely concerned with my dogs. The owners are wonderful and have a great deal of integrity in the way in which they run their business. Having an owner on site makes a huge difference in the quality of service. They understand that dogs are an important part of people's lives and they treat the dogs very well. I would never leave a dog in a place where I was not permitted access to the "back stage" of the operation. The back stage is as clean as the front stage. The dogs are kept in spacious kennels when they are not playing with plenty of water. And they play--my dogs are happy, hungry and exhausted when I pick them up after work. The staff helps me to my car everyday. I am very happy with this business and would recommend it highly and without reservation to any dog owner. read more

This was not a good fit for us or our puppy. We signed up for the two-week dog training class. No complaints with the trainers, our dog loved her time with them. After the first week of training we had to take our pup to the vet to be treated for an upper respiratory infection. I realize that even with vaccinations, anything is possible. It wasn't until we had to take her back to the vet during the second week of training for a torn paw pad. The management would like to dismiss this as a fluke or more accurately something that just happens and agreed to give us our money back if we signed a form stating that we would not discuss what happened at their facility and we would take responsibility for the incidents that landed our puppy at the vet twice within a week. We declined the refund. What seems to be missing within the ownership of this company is the compassion that many people have dogs that are regarded like our children. The lack of respect from the owners was overwhelming and prohibits us from recommending this organization. read more
