Calling Nick detail oriented is a bit of an understatement, he noticed all kinds of small things we didn't see before and explained their implications. Scheduling him was easy, and his quote was towards the lower end of the quotes I got. When he got here, he went over the house, and stopped to explain things when he saw something we might not understand, or when we had a question. This was the fourth time I've purchased a home and 1st time with Nick as an Inspector (Nick was a referral from my real estate agent). The first home Nick inspected and was trying to purchase he found out the home needed a new roof and greedy owner wanted to make $100,000 profit on the house in one year without repairing anything or even splitting the cost of the roof. I moved on to finding another home after paying all the Inspection fees. Second home - Nick "missed the leak in the family room completely(see picture to the left of the plate) even though I specifically told him to let me know what the color differentiation was in the kitchen ceilings because my Dad had noticed discoloration in another room. He noted that there were a couple of shingles missing in the report. He also missed completely the problem in the driveway where they can't just fix a couple of pavers they will have to repour as it is falling off into the ravine. He also missed the muscovie duck nest on the roof which has cost me to date $1800 dollars. These are HUGE issues and will cost a lot of money to repair. I sincerely think that my real estate agent Avis Swenson and Nick Catalano are in "cahoots" with each other and he purposely didn't mention the roof or the driveway or the ducks so that the deal would go through and my real estate agent would get her $13,000 and Nick would continue to get referrals from her. Nick is a very thorough in his reports and I can't believe he missed these 3 big ticket things by accident. My advice - do NOT ask your real estate agent for an Inspector referral. This is the worst home I have ever owned and I've only lived in it 4 months and want to move already. Uggh. Go to Angie's List. read more

I'm about to close on the house that I've envisioned myself in for my entire adult life. I literally can't get in fast enough. My insurance company set me up with an inspector who was just wrong in every way. Late, arrogant and a total grouch. He didn't have time to do the full inspection that I thought I had confirmed (probably because he was an hour late to his first appointment somehow) so he took a quick walk around the house and told me not to bother with the full inspection. "You'd be wasting your money." I'm about to pay the seller over half a million dollars for a home, the seller has agreed in advance to fix anything that looked wrong and this inspector was telling me not to bother?? OK, now I'm way off topic and getting heated again. In a bind and with one day left to complete the inspection, Nick agreed to come out in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday. This guy was awesome! Immediately you can tell that he loves what he does and takes his job very seriously. He takes his time and gives you advice as if you are family. That is probably the best way to put it actually. He literally makes you feel like family. He gives you best case scenario and worst case scenario. He follows up and even encourages questions after the inspection is over. I took him up on that and called him twice. He answered his phone both times and spent several minutes on the phone each time making sure I was comfortable with moving forward. I really can't say enough good things about him. This was my third home purchase btw and fourth inspection (due to the idiot in the beginning of the post) and Nick is now saved permanently in my phone.
