Recently, I was given a gorgeous Bidjar rug from my mom's house when she moved to a retirement home. For years, she raised and showed Irish Wolfhounds, and always allowed them in her home. But the last few years, she has suffered from dementia, and did not take care of her home (or her dogs) very well at all. Even though it was sent straight to be cleaned, my Bidjar rug smelled so bad I could not leave it in my house. A friend suggested I take it to Nilipour to see if they could get the odor out. Wow, just great great customer engagement. Customer service is not an adequate enough term. You get customer service at Home Depot or CVS ( "Two aisles down on the right somewhere...I think"). Engagement is something beyond simple customer service. It's taking the time to listen, learn and understand, and respond as appropriate to your customers needs. This small family owned business really gets it...and it shows. Knowing nothing myself about a recent "nice rug" purchase, I was trepidation us of my lack of knowledge and how often that gets you in trouble. These folks took time, care and effort to educate me, put me at ease and assure me I was in capable and committed hands. Nilipour Oriental Rugs is a fantastic family owned rug shop. Not only did I find two beautiful rugs for my house I had a great time during the process. Soraya helped me along and took me from zero to hero in terms of rug knowledge. She was polite and patient wit me while I looked at almost half of the rugs in the store. Mrs. Nilipour made me a cup of hot tea to enjoy while I browsed the store. When I got the rugs home and put them in place I decided that one of them didn't work and I asked if I could exchange it. What a delightful experience we had the last two days in this wonderful store. My wife had been looking for the "right" rug for over 2 months. We drove from Destin, Florida, to see just what they had. Our daughter was a spotter for us and when I heard she had "spotted" a store in Homewood, I knew it had to be of value. We have purchased rugs from this family owned business for years and have always loved their selection and service. We no longer live in Birmingham but believe it is 100% worth driving a hour and a half to purchase a rug and use their services. Recently we inherited a very large number of oriental rugs that had not been cleaned in 40 years. Was blown away not only by the selection, but the willingness of the Nilipour family, (specifically Soraya), to show me any rug/size rug I was interested in exploring. They had a team there to flip through the heavy selection of rugs for me, they never acted impatient, and Soraya did an amazing job walking me through the pros/cons of different rugs for my den. THE BEST PART was that Susan and her team delivered a couple of rugs for me to try in my house the same day, they laid the new rug pad, and they took away my old one. Rude and indifferent staff. I understand the owners real name is Shunnarah.. Not sure why the alias. I was warned on this site (where are those postings) and by friends to "beware of their business practices"...many hidden and unexplained charges. When I questioned the charges, I was asked to leave and not to return (mind u that was after they collected my money.) How could I ever buy another rug here with their questionable business practices.....I could not trust the SHUNNARAHS to know what I am buying is authentic and NOT A REPRODUCTION. My husband and I have purchased a total of six Ousak rungs from Soraya in the past. We received excellent trade in value for our old rugs. I went into Nilipour thinking about how to fill and awkward space in a large foyer that gets alot of traffic due to our 7 kids and of course all of their friends. Something not too gouty. Soraya was the first to greet us and once we spent just a few minutes with her she picked out the perfect piece to fit our needs. I had 3 large rugs cleaned by Nilipour recently and was very satisfied with the results. They had not been cleaned in several years and were in need of a good cleaning. They came to pick them up the day I called. They carefully moved the furniture to remove the rugs and replaced the furniture to put the room back in order.
