I've been consigning and shopping here since I moved to Oregon in 1995. It's so much fun to get a…read moregood deal and at the same time get rid of clothes you no longer want - and make a few bucks. I was sorry to see the old management go and learn they had fired all personnel, but I also understand that they had a different business plan, and sometimes this sort of thing is needed to make a fresh start with new policies. I've mostly been happy when consigning although sometimes the low price they place on a Pendleton or Clarks item I've consigned blows my mind and I try not to get upset. I've mostly been pretty satisfied with the amount of items they accept from me to consign (I'd say they accept at least 80% of what I've brought in), but the last time, I brought in over 30 items, most new but without tags, and they didn't accept one single item! One has to consider their current stock and think maybe they already have something like you brought in, and they didn't take? But I was bummed as I am an old lady and had to schlepp my stuff to my car from my apartment and then into the store, and then the reverse. I'm sorry to hear of the many complaints about employee attitudes here. That has not been my experience in the least! I'm always asked if I need assistance and they scramble to help me find things that are going past their consign-by date (when they would ordinarily go on sale or get donated), when I want to rescue something from them that I've consigned. I DO like to shop the discounted items in each section and appreciate how they put them on the end of each section, so I can walk down the main aisle and peruse them. These items (priced according to the current % off color that hangs from the ceiling) used to be sprinkled throughout the store and not kept together in each section, so for us bargain shoppers, this is a fantastic way to shop!

I am an avid shopper and have frequented similar stores all over the US, so it is with great confidence that I can say Pulp & Circumstance is one of the best. It is lovingly and beautifully curated by co owners and friends Jennifer & Ashley. I was doing business in the neighborhood and noticed they were finally open (I peeked in their window last week) and today is their grand opening. The store is located inside of a beautiful Victorian house that has been expertly transformed into about 1,000 sq feet of retail space. There are three major rooms that house a variety of items including but not limited to: fresh flowers, air plants, succulents, books, at least 100 (very cute, often letterpress) cards, stationary, baby gifts, jewelry, candy by the pound, jewelry, mirrors, art, etc. Best of all some of the wares are from local artists and businesses. Many of the items here I have never seem before, and I easily spent a hour familiarizing myself with my new go to place for gifts, small home decor items and cards. Does it sounds like the owners here are my very best friends? Well they are not (yet). Today was the first time I met these two remarkably charming and welcoming gals in my community. I am looking forward to future chats about the happenings in the Berg (we traded information about what other businesses are coming to town including a bakery and restaurant this summer). I picked up two mirrors, a postcard, a camping cookbook, a Father's Day card, a wedding card and a thank you card set. And I will likely be back tonight for their official grand opening party with my husband. Pretty please come shop here and support this brand new business which I suspect will quickly find great success and a loyal cult following.

I can't say enough good things about my experience at Marine Layer in Bridgeport Village, Tigard!…read moreTaylor and Donna were an absolute dream team. From the moment I walked in, both ladies were incredibly welcoming and helpful, instantly putting me at ease while I shopped for outfits for my new job, including my orientation at Crate and Barrel later that day. They took the time to understand my style and needs, pulling pieces that were spot-on--kind, flattering, and genuinely enthusiastic without ever feeling forced. By the time I left, I felt polished, confident, and actually excited to wear my new clothes to work. As a longtime Marine Layer fan (seriously, years!), I was shocked to learn new details about their return policy from Taylor and Donna--info I'd somehow missed all this time. That kind of thoughtful, proactive education is rare. Having worked in customer service for decades, I know excellence when I see it. These two went above and beyond. If you're in the area, ask for Taylor and Donna--you won't leave disappointed!
