They will also open any bottle in the store for you for EUR15 plus the price of the bottle.

Lovely terrace overlooking the city, with a load of interesting wines to try. It was pretty busy when we arrived but we got a table, and tried some local whites. I agree that the food isn't the strength here. Plates of cheese spreads and bread, but pretty expensive for what they were. So I'd suggest not arriving hungry! The view plus the great selection of wines at a really great price makes this worth an effort. We walked down through fields which was a lot more scenic and pretty...

This heuriger was so accessible to the central parts of Vienna--it was only one transfer us via tram and a short 30 minute ride and a ten minute walk from the stop. I love the history attached with the winery--Beethoven supposedly was living here when he wrote his 9th symphony. The food was fantastic particularly the side dishes--roasted potatoes, sauerkraut like I haven't had before, pickled peppers with cream cheese, roasted vegetables. The bread as in Austria was wonderful as well. The meats were good as well and particularly liked the schnitzel. The wine was really good, we were a bit worried with it being young wine but enjoyed it especially with soda water. Our 17 year old enjoyed being legal in Austria and partook of it a bit too generously :). The interior was clean and comfortable with its traditional wooden tables and benches. Dessert was wonderful too with a chocolate molten cake and cream strudel..,. if we lived there could imagine coming here for regular family meals... wish they had such lovely welcoming spots where we live!

Johann…read moreKattus GmbH has been making Sekt (think Austrian champagne) for almost two centuries in Vienna when they added on this beverage to their initial business as a purveyor of Caspian Sea caviar. It was a perfect combination - Sekt and Caviar! Today they also produce Frizzante in addition to their fine Sekt and you can taste both in the attractive tasting room after the tour. The mechanization in use in today's production is truly impressive as you view the bottling process very close up. What more can I say except "Auf Ihr Wohl" / "To Your Health!"

The ride took about 20 minutes and was much easier than trying to figure out public transportation. It was well worth the time and cost. Mayer am Nussberg is situated on a hill overlooking Vienna. It's a beautiful location and the perfect place to spend an evening. There are picnic tables and folding chairs facing the vineyard and the setting sun. It seems to be a favorite haunt for locals, as we saw many folks arriving on foot with kids and dogs in tow. The staff were very nice and helpful with our lack of German language skills. They helped us pick several different wines to taste and tried to explain each in pretty good English. We stayed until dark and took an Uber back to the city. It was a wonderful evening of awesome views, great wine and even some tasty food.
