Lake Norman Law Firm

Extremely disappointed with this law firm. If you are going through a divorce in North Carolina, do…read moreyourself a favor and look elsewhere. I was referred to this firm by a friend in the summer of 2025. During my initial consultation, the attorney made sure to emphasize how long, ugly, and drawn-out the process could get once my ex lawyered up. I explained that my ex and I had already worked out the details ourselves and simply needed them to draw up the final paperwork. Because it was clear I wasn't going to be a high-revenue, long-drawn-out battle, that was the last time I ever spoke to the actual attorney. I was immediately passed off to the paralegals and forgotten. The office drafted paperwork littered with typos and inconsistencies. As someone who has never been divorced before, I had no idea what to expect. This divorce was sudden, unexpected, and utterly heartbreaking for me. While I understand law firms deal with this daily and can become desensitized to the emotional toll, this firm failed at the absolute bare minimum: communication. At no point did they bother to explain the entire legal process or outline what steps would happen next. Once the initial paperwork was done, I was told I had to wait a full year under North Carolina law. It was crushing, but I complied. They assured me they would reach out to me in July of 2026. July came and went. I anxiously waited for a call that never arrived, forcing me to follow up myself. Only then did they inform me that I needed to formally serve my ex with papers--something that should have been proactively communicated and prepared for. Next, I was told a hearing would need to be scheduled, which could take 30 to 60 days, but that I didn't need to attend. The hearing was set for Monday, September 14th. Again, I heard absolutely nothing from the firm. After traveling for work, I finally reached out the following week to ask how it went. I was shocked to learn the hearing didn't even happen because the firm had put the incorrect courtroom number on a legal document. They casually told me not to worry and that they would just reschedule, showing zero regard for the emotional weight this delay placed on me. The final straw came after the divorce was supposedly finalized. I was desperate to change my last name--carrying it felt like a daily reminder of the worst chapter of my life. The firm assured me that the Social Security office would accept the electronic divorce judgment. I took time off work and drove 40 minutes to the office, only to be told that electronic copies are absolutely not acceptable and that they required a certified physical copy. At every single turn, this law office has made careless mistakes, provided terrible guidance, and demonstrated a complete lack of competence or empathy. For them, it's just a job, but for their clients, it is their life. I hope anyone reading this benefits from knowing what to look out for in NC, and avoids hiring this reckless firm.

I couldn't believe my luck to find Mr. Jeter who has an office in Fort Mill, SC and is also licensed to practice in NC! The first session was free as promised. I felt Mr. Jeter was engaged in the interaction and very interested in what I was looking to get out of the process. I decided to move forward with the estate planning package (my first in this state) and Mr. Jeter continued to be a pleasure to work with. He gave me great advice on what the consequences of some of my wishes would turn out to be like if written exactly as I was originally thinking, and how we could turn them into more appropriate documents to support the intent of what I was hoping to achieve with my estate. I was very involved and very detail-oriented in the process, and he was very accommodating with my questions and concerns and made any necessary changes until the package was better than I originally expected. There were legal documents I wasn't even aware of from my previous lawyer and I appreciated that he included them in the package to be sure my wishes, and personal and financial welfare and property, are protected by the available law (whether I'm incapacitated or passed). Mr. Jeter's office was on top of executing the documents, arranging our appointments, and very hospitable and pleasant. Given all the documents and work that went into my package, I also felt that the fee Mr. Jeter quoted in the beginning was reasonable and fair. I'm grateful to have found Mr. Jeter and would recommend him to anyone who needs to do estate planning in NC or SC.

A breath of fresh air.... It sure is wonderful to find the highest quality attorney and staff…read moreright here in Cornelius. Not only does Mauriello Law Offices, P.C. expertly, skillfully, and compassionately fight for their clients, Chris, Chera, and Nastia do so with personal and prompt communication, professionalism, attention to detail, and all with a down-to-earth, sincere nature. One example of how Mauriello Law Offices, P.C. truly excels in extraordinary, above-and-beyond care for clients is when I had a brain seizure early morning before I was supposed to arrive in the office for a meeting with Chris Mauriello. Once I woke up and got up, I sent a foggy email to the office explaining I might not make it in. After the seizure, I had my typical aftermath of a giant migraine and extreme exhaustion/tiredness. Both Chera (paralegal) and Chris (attorney) emailed me and called me several times, of which I slept through. Then I heard a doorbell ring and a bunch of loud knocking at my door. I woke up and then heard the phone ringing. I answered it. It was Chera letting me know that my attorney was at my door to make sure I was okay, alive, and seeing if I needed medical assistance. They were so worried about me! I felt so amazingly honored, (embarrassed), and felt so special to receive such caring from my law firm. I am quite certain this is not common practice!! After my visit, both Chris and Chera followed up with me and double-checked to ensure I did not need anything further. Another compassionate example is that Chera constantly checked on me when my Mom was suffering from brain cancer and then again when she entered hospice care. Chera truly supported me throughout this awful time in my life. She did not have to do that. She is just that awesome. Chris, Chera, and Nastia handled emails and calls well out of office hours. This office never stops working on the case until they win. They truly go beyond the call of duty, always. Mauriello Law Offices, P.C. aggressively prepared for trial, but instrumentally maximized a fantastic settlement. My expectations of this law firm have been substantially exceeded. Hire Mauriello Law; I assure you that you will be extremely pleased you did.
