It's very confusing to review restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, and other businesses as an American…read morevisiting for a bit. I did visit the Strawberry Duck with a local. When he told me about the name of the pub (several times), I was enchanted. I had the fish and chips and much were very fish and chips. I am also a long time vegetarian trying to eat some fish. Failing miserably. The draft beer selections were the same as every other pub in London that I had tried. Found out in my next to last evening in England that Heineken controls the draft scene. I was searching for local, traditional British beer. Only one place in Oxford! I'll keep trying!! Delightful and charming brewpub or pub (again, American). Very homey feel to the restaurant/pub. The service was something. Fine but I enjoyed my experience thoroughly!

After walking for 8.5 miles we ended up back here where we had booked a table for dinner…read more Walking in we were led to a table right in front which was in a middle of a 3 way much to our dismay as people kept constantly walking past us. What I did see of the decor was nice. The majority of the waitresses were young and what I felt inexperienced . Asking us immediately what we wanted to drink without providing a menu and us having to enquire what the soup and pie of the day was. Drinks ordered I browsed the menu. It was just a lot of generic pub grub with not a lot of fish dishes. Saying that I did see some fish and chips get served that looked fab. I did find the menu a bit uninspiring but luckily I clocked the special board and saw the Strawberry Duck with bubble and squeak with garlic mash. Himself had the minted lamb pie and we shared chipolatas with mustard mayo. The starter was nice but forgettable...the mains were the star of the show. My duck was cooked to perfection and everything tasted fresh. The sauce was of perfect consistency and not too sweet. The mash could have done with more garlic but it was a fine dish especially while sipping yummy gooseberry gin. The minted lamb pie was rich and full of flavour with thick chips that were a little undercooked in the middle. To finish we had coffee as we were full. Overall I felt the service let it down a little, Asking if we want sauce when the starter was served with it, not asking how are food was in the beginning , not informing us about the specials etc and in the end we had to order Drinks at the bar as felt a bit neglected. It was nice to have a swift recommendation of what to have with the gin though and the bill was reasonable . Yes I would come back if I went for a walk in the area.

Muted golds, reds and warm brown woods give the place a comfortable and sumptuous feeling for something as simple as a restaurant-pub. The huge lanterns that hang over the bar are a striking visual element as soon as you walk in the door. Harvey's seems to enjoy being slightly out of the way. It doesn't have loud music, TV screens or arcade fruit machines making noise, it's quiet, and relaxing. However this also means that there's often not very many customers there when you arrive, and my recurring note is that there only usually seems to be one or two staff working at any one time. One out front running around like a headless chicken to keep on top of everything, and one occasionally bringing food out. There's the kitchen team too, but I don't know how many there is. Due to this skeleton staff, it's understandable that it's not full table service, but ordering at the bar and taking your seat where food will be brought to your table. The nice thing is that as busy as the staff get, they are friendly and professional, and always wearing a smile upon greeting you. The menu is rather unusual, as you would expect from the setting to get standard British pub/restaurant fayre, and although classics are on offer, the menu is rather varied, including breakfast, sandwiches, starters, main courses, enchiladas, 'classics', burgers, sharing plates, sharing platters, side orders, and a smattering of other cuisines, such as meze, nachos, tapas, and fajitas. The prices are fair, if not slightly higher than the average for Bolton Town Centre; the cheeseburger and chips meal I ordered was £9.45, and a Pepsi with it was £1.70. The drinks on offer also include interesting quirky items such as cocktails served in teapots, which is an interesting unique idea! Here's where the small staff can be an issue, as there were no more than a dozen customers in the venue when I was there (a weekday), but my meal took 45 minutes to arrive to my table, but admittedly with an apology for the wait, which was nice. It was also amusing to hear the single staff member take an order from a mother and child from the Children's Menu, then hear him go into the back and yell, "chicken nuggets, chips and beans from the kids menu!" to the kitchen staff, to the amusement of all of the other customers who giggled. I'm happy to say that the food which arrived was hot, fresh, and very tasty. The burger was not served on a multi-seeded Kaiser bun as the menu stated, but served on a brioche bun, which in my opinion is actually a better move, as Kaiser rolls often fall apart when used for burger buns. The burger was juicy and substantial, and the chips were hot and crispy. In fact I couldn't actually finish the burger! Staff also made the time to ask twice during my meal if everything was to my satisfaction, which it was. Harvey's is a great place to pop in for lunch, but it feels as though it's not meeting its potential. It's a great venue and a pleasant environment, and it feels as though it should be a lot busier and fuller than it is for food, as it has a lot to offer. I have eaten at Harvey's before, and would happily do so again.

However, he received just £50 for his invention. Since 1862, Nelson Square has been fronted by a statue of Samuel Crompton. First time here, went with friend. Nice inside, very much like the last Wetherspoons I went in. Went in for a midday snack. Wasnt impressed we had to stand waiting at the bar to get an order in for the food. Chorley has a food order area. At the table it wasnt cleaned down and grubby. I had a bowl of Tomato and Basil soup that really was half a bowl. Bloomer bread and butter. Was given a knapkin which wrapped a soup spoon and a large dinner folk to spread my butter on the bread. My friend had Smoked Haddock fish cakes that were too brown and crunchy, chips that looked like washerwomens fingers and a side salad that was limp and need a good dip in water. I could just see Gordon Ramsey forking it about, then coming out with a few choice words. Would I say it's a place with a Kitchen Nightmare, ( yip too true) How do I know? I was an head chef over 35 years. Would I serve that up? Not this side of hell. Broadcasts Live News Cask Marque Accredited Children Welcome In Good Beer Guide TV Screens Wifi
