Buyer Beware: Shortcuts on prep, poor communication & inferior quality…read more I contracted with CertaPro Painters of WNY (Tonawanda) through Michael Shea to stain my home's exterior, doors and windows. Both the communication and the planned workmanship were a serious disappointment. I found out the plan for my doors and windows was only a light hand sand before staining. That is not adequate prep for exterior stain and invites early failure. The company would not commit to proper prep at the quoted price, so I stopped the project. The on-site supervisor told me he had warned the sales rep in advance that this approach would be a problem. In other words, the shortcut was known and it went ahead anyway, without anyone telling me. This company sub-contract out their work to painters that do not speak English which further complicates the communication on-site. Had I known that this was going to be the way this project would be handled, I would NOT have used them. I obtained quotes from three other reputable contractors to complete the doors and windows correctly and offered to settle the bill for the work done, less that cost. Mike, the sales rep, refused to consider it. If you hire this company, insist that every prep step is spelled out in writing. I'd expect the owner to want to know how this job was sold and managed, and I'm open to hearing from them.

(For me, as career military that's includes 18 moves and 7 remodels). First impressions matter to me --- and I was very pleased with the first face to face consultation with Bill. He listened to me and my concerns for the project and looked me in the eye and gave me lots of good options. The Darling team lead recommended a few different paint options and the ones that I selected were aligned with my budget, quality of work I wanted and need of the specific rooms (especially a heavily wallpapered / panel bathroom that was in need of a huge makeover.) All the paint and paint related products were fabulous and did the exact coverage and tone I wanted to set for each room. (I had a total of 5 different products for walls / shutters.) The on the job team, led by Victor, was impressively organized and had to their own area of best practice that was very complementary to each other. The team rotated slightly depending on the needs of the project, but the core team of Victor and Kim (attention to details specialist !!!). Weather turned out to be a plus and minus --- a heavy rain day meant that the external workers were added to my interior job and helped my project's timelines. No wasted waiting times or down times because of forces outside our control. Really liked that dynamic tasking and re-organization by Darling's leadership. Each day they cleaned up, stowed their gear in a non-interfering manner and made sure I had a function kitchen, bathroom, shower and sleeping area. (I had arranged to sleep and shower somewhere else but I didn't need to.) Victor and Kim --- and the other team members ensured the utmost care of my personal property and were very considerate of me and my home. The team's overall attention to detail, work ethic and considerable care truly impressed me. I will have them back for the rest of my remodel including a garage, three porches and outbuildings. His crew of four men spent one day painting a number of areas that someone else would have taken a week, at least, to do. Everyone's attitude was good, no loud music---and they protected the furniture and hardwood floors. At the end of the day everything was cleaned up beautifully. I have never had anyone do as good a clean-up job, ever. The work was excellent and the price was fair. I am actually looking forward to my next project with them.

Braendel Painting & Services, Inc. quoted me $3,500 to paint my kitchen. I signed a contract with…read moreBraendel on June 5, 2021, and they began the work shortly thereafter. However, the project was not completed until nine months later. I had expected the job to be finished within a few days. Throughout the project, I repeatedly contacted Braendel to address areas that had been left unpainted and sections where the paint had peeled from the cabinets. Braendel painted over cabinets that were more than 50 years old without sanding or priming them beforehand. I can personally attest to this because I was present throughout the entire project and observed the work being performed. As a result, the paint began peeling. I called several times requesting that the cabinets be repainted. Although Braendel later used a more expensive paint, the peeling problem continued. At no point did the owner or project manager contact me to ask whether I was satisfied with the work. Instead, a different painter was sent each time I reported problems. During one visit, I overheard a phone conversation between the company and the painter they had sent. Someone from the Company asked, "Is she for real?" The painter replied, "Yes. I am now painting the ceiling that was not completed." Even after these issues were addressed, the project manager never contacted me to discuss the quality of the work or my satisfaction with the project. Eventually, the last painter assigned to my job, Eric Godlewski, took the cabinet doors home and repainted them. I was pleased with the quality of his work. Before he left, I asked whether he knew anyone who installed replacement windows. Mr. Godlewski offered to do the work himself. Based on my positive experience with his cabinet work, I agreed. Mr. Godlewski measured the windows, purchased them, and stacked them on my back porch. On March 31, 2022, I gave him $4,300, and he provided me with a receipt. After that, I never heard from him again. I was out $4,300. To make matters worse, the windows that were purchased were all the wrong size and did not fit any of my window openings. Because they could not be returned, I donated them to Habitat for Humanity. I chose to work with Braendel because the company had a good reputation. Since then, I have learned that Mr. Godlewski has an extensive criminal record. In my opinion, Braendel should have exercised greater care in selecting and supervising individuals representing the company. I contacted Dan Bishop, the project manager for Braendel, several times regarding these issues. He returned only one call and informed me that Braendel was not responsible. He never responded to any of my subsequent calls. Would I do business with Braendel again? Absolutely not. Shelley Ruh

An overhearer promptly handed me HIS card and some self promoting...rounding a figure based on my descriptions. Yikes! Prob can't get the house painted based on what overhearer said he'd charge..maybe just the awning. I called name jotted down by paint guy. Picky Painting, husband & wife team, who set a time to meet me in Tonawanda to look. $$$$ turned out to be $$. Hired them immediately to do whole house & awnings. Which they did beautifully AND professionally. Detail oriented. I'm writing this several years later, and can tell you it's still beautiful. The value added to my double far exceeded what we paid for this job.
