Overpriced, underwhelming, and not worth the time or money. It's more image than true expertise…read more It's not upscale!! It's sloppy at best and feels predatory in practice.
I gave Hair Reformation multiple chances, hoping the next visit wouldn't feel like a rip-off. BIG MISTAKE.
I went in May as a new client, after not having done my hair in 10 months. Cheyenne recommended I get their "The Works" an all-inclusive package where she could do whatever was needed: full highlights, glaze, haircut, the works. I agreed, hoping for a real transformation.
They took before-and-after photos for Instagram, which I didn't want but went along with. The total was $490 with tip. The color was ok but my white hairs still showed, and the highlights were so subtle that when I pulled my hair back, it looked mostly like my base color. The haircut was minimal, just trimming the ends AFTER drying the hair.
They told me to come back about 1.5 months later for a glaze, so I did. I went back for my second appointment with Cheyenne as advised, and received a simple glaze TONER and blow dry for $212. After the second visit, I went back and forth about canceling my next appointment but, against my better judgment, I decided to give them another chance.
A month and a half after that glaze appointment, I had my third appointment. On that day, I found out I was scheduled with Elise because Cheyenne had gone on leave. Cheyenne had put me with another stylist before leaving. I went in expecting a half highlight and a cut at a reasonable price, but was charged $300 for a "half highlight," $100 for a "haircut". The haircut was exactly 4 quick snips AFTER blow-drying, really the audacity they have!! Plus I tipped $72 (the tip is prompted on the payment machine with suggested amounts, and the staff are standing there watching while you choose) the total was $472. The half highlight covered about half my hair. And my hair ends were still damaged.
When I returned home and checked my credit card statement, I realized the price was almost the same as the "Works" visit--only about $18 less. I called them for clarification, I was told a "half highlight" is basically two foils, there's just one price regardless of amount of hair highlighted and Elise "just charges more than Cheyenne." None of this was communicated in advance. They brushed it off as a "miscommunication" and said next time they'd tell me. If I had known the half highlight was priced the same as a full highlight, I would have done my whole head -- not paid nearly $500 for a partial job just to be told to come back in 2 months for "THE WORKS".
In just six months, I paid a total of $1,174 at Hair Reformation.
They're trying very hard to create the image of an upscale salon. They make you sign a contract before service, use Dyson hairdryers (which I have at home), use Iles hair products, and promote them for clients to use at home (Cheyenne tells every client that if she could drink Iles product she would, same pitch to everyone ) they sell those products in the salon as well.
This place hides behind a fancy image while nickel-and-diming clients. To top it off, even the consultation is a paid service ($35 for 15min) unlike most salons where it's complimentary. AND after the consultation they charged for part of the service.
Charging for something as basic as a consultation shows just how money-hungry they are.
I've had far better service at international salons for a fraction of the price. Save your money and avoid the disappointment.
I hadn't intended to write a review and was planning to keep this to myself, but what happened last was the straw that broke the camel's back. They sent me a message to confirm an upcoming appointment, which stated that by confirming, I agreed to their policies. And it also said appointments will not be held without a confirmation. I chose not to confirm because I had already decided not to return. When I called to double-check that my appointment was actually cancelled, they said I would be charged 50% of the service. I was so frustrated that I told them I would dispute any charge if they tried to bill me. And they ultimately did not charge me.
That final experience prompted me to write this review so others are aware of how they conduct business and handle customer service. I wish I could give them 0 stars because they don't even deserve one.
