I highly recommend him . He was kind , asked questions about deceased ,what were his likes /dislikes , what he did in life and what was special about him. He took care of me as my partner did and helped me navigate this difficult part of life. Nickerson arranged hid memorabilia in a beautiful display , and got many compliments on it. Well, I've never planned a funeral before. I'd heard it was expensive. But with this sooner-than-expected death of a dear friend, I didn't have time to "shop around." It was a fairly complicated traditional burial, with a funeral one day in a church, and then an off-cape burial in a cemetery, quite a distance away, the following day. We picked the most modest and frugal choices we could, and it still cost $8900 (gasp!) And that didn't even include the church fees, reception, or flowers! Should I, or could I, have tried "bargaining" ??? Still, they did everything well. They bear the name of an old local establishment, but in fact they are part of a large chain which apparently owns most of the local funeral homes. So I don't think you really can "shop around." They hit you with a $3,000 fee right up front for their overhead. Then, everything is a la carte after that. I don't mean "optional" a la carte... I mean "required" a la carte depending on the circumstances and what you need to do. For example, embalming is not required any more, apparently. So you think, OK, we'll skip that, it will be more natural, we won't be using all those toxic chemicals, and it will save some money. Nope, if you don't have embalming, instead you have to pay the exact same amount of money for "cleaning and disinfecting the body" and refrigeration. And I had cleaned the body with the nurse myself, at home, before they picked her up, so I know she was already quite clean, therefore I did resent that line item a little. The coffin was really an attractive solid wood piece, one of the least expensive available (just the next step up from the cardboard box and particle board versions), but it still looked really nice, and we were very happy with it when we finally saw it (you choose from an album, you don't get to see actual samples. This disappointed me a little, I was kind of looking forward to browsing the big room full of coffin samples that you expect from TV shows). How quickly it all added up! But they really provided a lot of service, and did it professionally, efficiently, and tastefully. They took care of a lot of other things too, like getting the death certificates and helping with obituaries and funeral notices. There were a lot of people unobtrusively involved on their end, and I liked them all, and had absolutely no complaints with their end product and service. They made it as easy as it could be. I just didn't realize it was so expensive to die traditionally! They would get the fifth star if it had cost a third less. ***biggest lesson of the experience?? WRITE YOUR OWN OBITUARY BEFORE YOU DIE. I'm serious! This lady hadn't, and despite the funeral home's offer of assistance, this was actually the most painful and difficult part of the process, negotiating this in a hurry among the various remaining family members... and we still ended up with something way too shallow and inaccurate, that did not do the woman justice.*** read more

I am forever thankful and blessed to have called Nickerson Funeral home during such hard and stressful times. In September 2022, my mother unexpectedly passed away in her sleep. Being that I was only 22 years old I was financially not prepared for this. I called every funeral home you could think of and not one of the places I called was very helpful. I finally decided to call Nickerson Funeral home and I was so happy to get the help I needed considering I have never had to do anything like this before. I spoke to the funeral director named Christopher and he immediately understood my needs. Christopher was a god sent angel and took very good care of everything for me and my family. He knew exactly what we wanted and was so kind hearted and professional. He made it easier for us to move on and not stress. Christopher made sure to make my mothers funeral memorable. The service was absolutely beautiful and was more than what I had expected. There are not enough words to express how thankful I am to of had Christopher help us through such a difficult time. I was a guest for a church members husbands service. Everything was well laid out, loved the DVD of his life and the personal touches. My problem came though during the service. While the service was going on I was sitting near the back of the long wide hallway type area for the service trying hard to listen to the what was being said, which there was a speaker very close to the area I was in, but had a lot of difficulty with staff members in the next room talking and laughing loud while friends, family, the singer, and the Pastor were trying to express their heartfelt feelings for this wonderful man. I am not sure if this room that these people were in was a break room or just an office, but they need to look into possibly sound proofing these doors and walls so that it doesn't disturb these somber services. read more
