A true gem of a spot excellent food flavors and creativity. Caring chefs with attention to detail and their customers in an unassuming and relaxed setting. Ask them about their favorite drink recommendations in San Miguel Looking forward to my next return

What a gem! Really enjoyed everything here- the ambiance, the food, and service. I only wish I had more time to go back and try more. A friend and I shared 3 dishes- with the avocado and the flautas being my favorites. The pork belly pipián was still great though. Highly recommend!

These guys are passionate about their food and service. It's refreshing to see someone going above and beyond to provide an amazing experience. Best food in SMA!

The food was delicious and the service wonderful. It's an open kitchen and you can watch them cook and see the care and artistry that goes into each dish. Our favorite place we ate in SMA.

Las 2 Aves Pale Ale.

On the second floor of a hotel, we discovered a cozy, beautiful, colorful "comedor" (dinner). The comedor has a beautiful view of Hidalgo street. The best part is the innovative, tasty items on the menu. I started with a 2 Aves pale ale from San Miguel Allende and their bean dip with totopos. My sister ordered a huarache with rajas and I ordered the papadlux, potato enchiladas with a creamy green sauce, avocado, habanero, a poached egg (I love eggs!) and homemade potato chips. All plates were delicious and unique. Then we had their take of peaches and cream and it is out of this world. Check out the photo too many ingredients.

Lamb flautas in sauce

This was one of the best restaurants in which I've ever eaten--certainly one of the best lunches I've had anywhere. The stuffed avocado was an extraordinary combination of ingredients that I would never think of putting together (including nuts) but which tasted as if they were made for one another, and my husband's lamb flautas were equally delicious and original. The chef-owners of this simple, intimate, pretty restaurant cook everything personally according to their own unusual recipes. No alcohol, but the fruit infusions are refreshing. Not to be missed!

New York Strip

The food here is first class. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and the service was refined (and they spoke English). Great ambiance and views of the city. Incredible guacamole! Prices are very fair; our 300g New York Strip was 300 pesos.

Chilaquiles closest, huevos rancheros top of photo. Two different drinks, hibiscus something and strawberry cucumber

This may be my favorite restaurant in all of San Miguel. It's run by three friends, and they all take turns in the kitchen, waiting on tables, and making drinks. They make all sorts of "hipster" drinks like a strawberry cucumber bubbly infusion. Coffee is from a pod machine, so not the best, but good if you're not a coffee snob. The food was spectacular. We had chilaquiles & huevos rancheros. The presentation was beautiful, and the taste even better. They bring you a small bowl of chips and their mocahete (sp?) salsa, which I could have eaten with a spoon straight out of the bowl. I will definitely be coming back and recommend it to anyone going. Watch out for the hours - we went at the perfect time but have heard they just have weekend breakfast and afternoon lunch most days.

First, he brought out a very big bowl of tortilla chips. They were excellent as was the accompanying pico de gallo. I had the chicken street tacos, which were also terrific. There was live music starting right as I left. That's not my thing, but if it's your thing you might like it.

She went to this particular traditional restaurant known for their signature dish, Molcajete. The term first refers to a Mexican mortar bowl made of basalt volcanic rock standing on three stubby legs. The same term also refers to the food inside. It's quite simple because it's all about the ingredients and the execution. Jamie W and I ordered the MX$550 Mix Volcanic Bowl where they grilled large amounts of arrachera (skirt steak), chicken, and cecina (cured beef) while heating up the molcajete. The meat was then layered in the bowl along with nopales (cactus), green onion, chiles, peppers, and queso blanco cheese. A spicy green chile verde sauce was drizzled all over the gluttonous mix (Photo 7). Fresh guacamole and creamy refried beans were served on the side (Photo 4). A stack of freshly made tortillas was provided in order to gorge on all of the hearty indulgence which continues to stream well after its arrival at the table. The total amount could've easily served four ravenous people with both the arrachera and nopales the delectable standouts. Out of blissful ignorance, we both ordered salads as if the volcanic bowl wasn't going to satisfy us. Jamie had the MX$135 Mixed Salad with lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion, pasilla chiles, mushrooms, and a rosette of avocado slices (Photo 8). I went with the MX$200 House Salad with lettuce, hearts of palm, cubes of chihuahua cheese, green olives, grape tomatoes, and red onion (Photo 9). Both were more than freshly satisfying as we were filling up on housemade tortilla chips with red salsa and fresh pico de gallo (Photo 5). The space was cavernous with plenty of room for large parties as families converged on this place. We could totally envision live music performances in here, especially with a long, fully stocked bar beckoning. Although I've seen mocajetes on random Mexican menus around San Francisco, I agree with Pati that this type of place would be quite successful stateside. If you're planning a trip to San Miguel de Allende, I recommend following Pati's advice. FOOD - 5 stars...a deliciously eruptive volcanic bowl AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...huge space, plenty of room during off-peak hours SERVICE - 4.5 stars...efficient and quite accommodating TOTAL - 5 stars...trust Pati on this one RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? From our third stop, Le Pegaso (review: https://yelp.to/rmPAJsgLVf), we had to cross the cobblestone streets around the central plaza, Jardin Allende. Normally an uneventful stroll, it felt more precarious after three bar stops. We made it without injury though. This spot was a spacious, more traditional restaurant with two bars in front. Our group was seated around a dining table. I noticed our Tequila Paloma was a bit skimpier this time (Photo 7), perhaps an acknowledgement that we were tapering off our alcoholic consumption. However, we ended up with the evening's best plate, a pair of Emmoladas, an enchilada-like house specialty filled with shredded chicken and covered liberally in a savory-sweet dark chocolate mole sauce (Photo 8). I would definitely have that again. FOOD / DRINKS - 4 stars...tasty emmoladas overshadowed the tequila and the pomegranate juice (Photo 9) AMBIANCE - 4 stars...spacious and relatively calm SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty attentive staff TOTAL - 4 stars...more like a real restaurant than just a tequila bar RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? Fantastic really, really home-made and as they claim Artisanal Mexican food. Down home, streetwise…read moreand Mama's way of putting viands together, from the aromas, the décor, the atmosphere and the service extraordinaire!. This obscure place from outside, when you walk in becomes what appears to be a Hacienda along with a patio, Terraza and balconies all around and cantina where you walk in! Not only was this place beautiful in the most traditional of Mexican styles, with tiled and wrought iron stairs to upper balconies, built in shelves and niches withing stone, wallpapered and muralled walls, a typical bar inlaid with the structure with magnificent woodwork and an excellent bartender I might add, clay flower pots galore hanging from the balcony flooring, and an incredible full skylight, wall to wall, but that's not the best of it. The food. The food was magnificent. I have had many a meal in Mexico, I have tried many, many styles of regional cuisine, but I had never ever had the specialty of this house - the Enmolada! The unique specialty of the house at La Cocina Café del Viajero are Enmoladas which are a dish consisting of tortillas in mole sauce... stuffed with fillings of almost any inkling! Enmoladas are a established indigenous dish made with corn tortillas that is coated in mole sauce. This is what I had to have. First let me mention that the food here is incredible, overall. We obviously started with bottled water, a couple of okay Margaritas and some Modelos. As is the custom, we had the Guacamole, which was extraordinarily excellent, with homemade chips, really, really good chips. Someone at the table ordered the Enchilada Capital with Mexican rice - extraordinary and very picoso! To make a long story short, my order of the Enmolada was exquisite. Most folk like me, were only familiar with enchilada sauce, but Enmolada sauce is unique. The enchiladas are smothered in mole sauce, offering a exceptional merge of flavors that stretch from spicy and sweet to savory and smoky. Totally overwhelming the palate, as your tastebuds go in a freefall. They compacted shredded chicken, then rolled it, then garnished it with fresh toppings of crema and cheese. Wow! Needless to say, this was an experience! An exquisite location, excellent service, terrific atmosphere and one of the most life changing taste adventures I had in Mexico. Try an Enmolada, maybe here, it's terrific.
