But I did check out one of the stores downstairs (you have to go down some stairs to get there). I ended up using the bathroom, which I really appreciated, it was clean and easy to access. Honestly, nothing caught my eye enough to buy, but if I ever needed a gift for someone visiting from Canada, it would be a convenient spot. Just not my thing. It's not a trip across the border if you don't make a stop at the Duty Free store! This one is located in a very convenient spot right by the main tourist district in Niagara Falls on the Canada side. It's a standard duty free store that's well organized and stocks all the greatest hits of shops like this: perfume, Canadian souvenirs, cigars, toys, candy and snacks, and lots of liquor! There are a few handbags and sunglasses too. There's a nice selection of Canadian wine and spirits, and most of the major brands are well represented (Grey Goose, Absolut, Johnnie Walker, and all sorts of beer and more). In fact, a bottle of Wayne Gretzky's cream liqueur or a pack of mini bottles of Niagara-On-The-Lake Ice Wine would make awesome gifts for friends and family back home. I'd say the majority of the store is dedicated to booze and perfume / cologne. Pro tip: make sure you use the restroom before leaving, because the border crossing can notoriously take a LONG time to get across. The bathrooms were pretty dirty the night I visited, but I am guessing that's because of the sheer volume of visitors that come through the doors. This is quite a popular tour bus stop. This shop has a huge parking lot that overlooks the falls (so be sure to go take some pictures before you leave)! You cannot make any purchases here unless you are on your way back into the United States, so take note. The parking lot road leads directly to the bridge and there's no place else to go. Purchasing here works like a standard duty free shop: you make your purchase, they record your license plate, then you drive around to a pick-up window to collect your goods. The road leads you straight over the bridge from the Canada to the U.S.A., so don't even think about being able to turn back into Canada from the store! They take both Canadian and American money, which is cool. It's a great way to get rid of some foreign currency before you head to the U.S. They will give you change in either currency, just ask for what you want. I always love browsing Duty Free stores and although I purchased nothing, it was fun to stretch my legs and look around. They are open every day from 7 am - 11 pm. read more

Niagara Duty Free Shop, ON Canada This Duty Free shop is conveniently located just across the street from our hotel in Niagara Falls. This shop is on the Canada side. We went to check it out one evening and found items we wanted to bring back home. Most of the merchandise they carried were wine, liquor, and imported chocolates. They also had a section of fragrance, watches, jewelry and some apparel towards the back of the shop. We purchased items on our second day but only when we were heading back to the USA border were we able to collect our purchases from the store. We went through the drive-thru and they handed us our items. The savings were pretty good. They are open early and close late from 7:00a - 11:00p and the staff were helpful and friendly. I can never really wrap my head around the concept of duty free shopping. You see them at the airports, by the border, even a few kilometers from the airport. The deal is that you get to save by not having to pay taxes or duties. And I would have to say, I did see a significant discount, perhaps 20 to 30 percent off. After you buy your products here, you then return to your car and drive up to the pick up window. They have excellent alcohol and ice wine choices, cookies, maple syrup, facial products, etc. What they don't have is a smile or "hello." In short, they're not too friendly, but it's still worth coming here before you drive over the Rainbow bridge, into the Buffalo part of the border. read more

Not a very big selection but good enough for any souvenirs to bring back -- chocolate, ice wine, alcohol, etc. You can only take it with you if you are physically going across the border that day...otherwise you can pre-purchase and have them hold til you are ready to leave. I know for Cadbury lovers, they have imported Cadbury for Europe esp for those who know the difference b/w tastes. Picked up some cool gifts here at duty free. Some of their items are their local brands, which are cool too to try. If you drove in, make sure to have your license # available as that is how they keep track of the purchase. It's interesting because a few people complain about the limited shopping. It's what you expect in duty free stores in North America and Europe. At least that's been my experience. I saw some really nice markdowns on perfume and other beauty items. Versace, Versace, Versace...yesss. Lol I did pass all that up and headed to the wine room and it was packed with ice wine. The sales clerk gave me a sample and really tried to push her brand of choice. I'm certain that the fact that her fave was the most expensive wasn't pure coincidence. Needless to say, I checked out some online reviews and settled for a nice bottle of Inniskillin Vidal. Happy camper here! The rest of the store housed a huge selection of liquor, snacks, candy, smoked salmon, purses and some clothing. I came here with my family and I had a horrible experience. This store is so strict with everything. You have to come back for your stuff if you are staying in the Canada side for the day. The cashiers were so rude. They kept saying my card magnetic stripe was not working. However, it worked in every other store! Then I tell her to type my numbers in the register and she said she couldn't. She did nothing to help me. Then afterwards she agreed to type another lady's credit card in the register. She said she trusts her because shes older. Just a horrible experience. After we picked up our merchandise, the man said he had to walk us to the bridge. So annoying! Niagara Falls Duty Free isn't worth a special trip, but if you're already here and need to stop anyway, it's ok. I've definitely been to better duty free stores. The prices here are a bit higher. The souvenir type stuff is what you'd want to skip. Some of the liquor is priced ok. You can find some of the wines at better prices, but if you're not going to be shopping around in Ontario anyway, I could see why you'd opt for duty free. I typically stay in Toronto for several days, so I don't need to worry about paying the duties. I also have no interest in bringing back ice wine though, unlike most visitors. Shoot me. I'm just not into it. I usually try to avoid the Niagara Falls visit if I can too. I've been one too many times. It does get old. How many times can you do the obligatory pics in front of the falls? I will admit I've never been to the U.S. side though. I'm sure I'll do it before I kick the bucket.. Service is good. Parking is easy. I can't comment on restrooms, I've never checked. Located in Niagara Falls, Ontario on the way to New York just before the border checkpoint. Entry signs are clear and also while exiting one just turns right into the road leading to the border checkpoint. Comparatively a smaller duty-free shop so the choices are less than other ones. In chocolates they have few varieties, I got some of the maple ones which were special to Canada and also got some maple liqueur truffles which were pretty good. There were some good deals on if one gets more than one. Also had some Lindt varieties which are normally not available in stores. Got some shortbread cookies which were just ok, nothing great. Some deals were also available on alcohol which are different at times. Got some Jack Daniel and Black Labels for gifts. Also got some maple syrup which is really good. While paying at the register they asked for the license pate number. Checkout was quick. Paid at the counter and they handed over the items on a drive through window while exiting. read more

Tito's vodka, for example, came at about 30% of US retail prices. Yes, I'm a boozebag! Overall, the experience was good. You walk in, pick your poison, pay, provide your vehicle ID, use the restrooms (if needed), and walk out sans purchase. The employees are incredibly rude here. In addition, they watch you as if you're going to steal something the whole time you are browsing, meanwhile, there are seemingly security cameras covering every centimeter of this place. Prices are high and honestly, I feel as though any "savings" you may have from not paying tax is negated by their high markups on products. This place is duty free but not profit free. Buy only the stuff that is harder to find in the US. Ice wine and the Sheridan liquor are examples. Otherwise, Costco's Western liquor store is the cheapest by far for everything else. read more

Small as far as the duty free places we've stopped at have been. The duty free on I91 in Vermont is much more expansive and easier to deal with than here. With that being said: there were some decent deals here and there but most was overpriced to begin with. They do have some local wines from Niagara on the Lake but I was disappointed to find they didn't sell some more local delicacies. read more
