He said our gov't insurance was crap and most likely my son wouldn't be approved but that he would submit a request for authorization. Almost two months go by and I call the insurance company to find out what the status of his authorization was, the insurance company told me that the doctor had never submitted anything and that they didn't have even have records of my son visiting this orthodontist! I called the orthodontist office and I was told by his receptionist Julianne that I had to wait 4-6 weeks (when it had already been 6 weeks!) because they hadn't received any response from the insurance company. I told her that I had just gotten off the phone with the insurance company and told her what they told me. She was quiet and put me on hold. Then she came back and said they had submitted it and she was going to check with the insurance, to give her another week and call back. CLEARLY they hadn't done anything at all. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and waited a week. I called back today and without telling her who I was or reminding her about my son's case I asked for an update. She said "We submitted the request on Friday and we need to wait 4-6 weeks for a response" WHAT???? Then I told her who I was and she put me on hold, the orthodontist came on the line and started yelling at me like a maniac, saying "Who do you think you are to say that my office didn't do what they were supposed to do?" I tried to speak and he wouldn't let me, and believe me I kept my cool the entire time. Then he said it was "stupid Obama Care" (which is not the insurance we have) that they didn't have a clue and I shouldn't expect to get anything from my insurance. He screamed everything he said and never let me speak, until I said "Dr. Friedman, please allow me to speak, I am your client and patient, where is your customer service?". I explained what the insurance company said and he put me on hold for 10 minutes. I waited while my blood boiled, but NEVER loss my cool. When he returned to the phone he was a little bit more calm but still rudely told me to do whatever I wanted and that if I waited then it would be for 4 to 6 weeks and not to expect my son to get approved. He's awful. Go elsewhere, it's not worth your time, money or effort!

His office is kid oriented with 2 pinball machines, a beautiful fish tank, kid books and an open floor plan so the kids are not afraid being in an enclosed dentist office. How cool it is too play video games when he works on your teeth. I have never heard crying or screaming from any child in this office. He has a way with kids. He always explained what he plans to do with you. He never lies and earns trust from the kids. My kid is never afraid of dentist appointment and I wish I can do the same with my own. I was told my youngest daughter needed certain "upgraded" treatments that would cost close to $10k, including different levels of braces like "platinum," but it didn't seem like there were any real added benefits.The covering manager Britney came across as dismissive and didn't seem very concerned about patients, more about the money. I also overheard staff talking about things that sounded very unprofessional, including discussing other patients in front of others, which felt inappropriate and possibly a violation of HIPAA laws. Another concern is that many of the assistants appear to be in training and don't seem to have much experience, yet they are still working directly on patients. I also noticed QR codes for reviews posted all over the office, and there seemed to be incentives like gift cards offered for positive reviews, which didn't sit right with me. That being said, Dr. V and Urooj are very patient and kind, and I do appreciate them. Overall, this office feels like it has gone downhill since the beginning of this year. I'm honestly just grateful my eldest daughter was able to complete her treatment before the management changes.

All of that changed once I met with Dr. Capogna and his staff. Not only was I greeted by the warmest staff but Dr. Capogna sat down with me and gave me a clear and realistic understanding of my options/expectations along with his recommendations. His expertise clearly communicated in every word. Since I was traveling from Manhattan to Garden City, I was delighted to discover the LIRR is within walking distance to the office. (Garden City is also such a quaint neighborhood!) The office itself is exquisite -- everything is state of the art - including their appointment system.
