I don't typically review churches since religion is controversial without commentary. However,…read moreafter visiting and engaging in several fellowships over the past 20+ years of living in North Carolina, Watershed has found a home in my heart since 2011. Why? They don't pretend to have all the answers and they are comfortable with a God who is at times mysterious, frustrating, and hidden. Matt and Scott (co-pastors) share speaking duties and have remarkably crafted a relationship with God, their families, and each other that is transparent and void of internal competition. I like that. I rarely come away from their talks without something in which to wrestle. I take comfort in knowing I am both loved by God and encouraged to drop anchor and fish this spot I'm in a little longer. When I slow down, I've discovered it is there I might feel the tug on my line and hope there is something bigger on the other end (pardon the fishing metaphor). Watershed provides a platform for this to happen for me.

We were in the hunt for a Catholic Church for Saturday anticipation Mass ... and fell upon St…read more Ann's on Park Road. Beautiful church and wonderful service, especially with a superb song and music section to complement the liturgy. Like the other Catholic churches we've been to in the Charlotte area, this one seemed to have an overly rigid leaning toward conservative values ... traditional yes, but strongly conservative. Maybe it's just because we are in the South, but it seemed a bit over the top. Sometimes at our church in the Chicago area we have trouble getting two altar boys/girls to serve Mass ... here they had five, each wore white gloves, and dressed in the old-fashioned floor-length black cassock and white square-neck surplice. Many women in the congregation wore mantillas, and many of the prayers and much of the music was in Latin. Most received Communion on their knees and on their tongue. It was not off-putting, but felt very different from what we were used to ... sort of like being in a time warp. All in all, nice church, nice liturgy, exceedingly retro.

Having grown up attending church their entire lives, their biggest takeaway was that this youth program offers an incredible balance of meaningful biblical teaching and genuine fun. They left feeling encouraged, engaged, and excited to come back. My 14-year-old especially appreciated having a youth leader who was only a few years older than her. Seeing someone closer to her age confidently leading, teaching, and inspiring others made a real impact and helped the message feel relatable and authentic. The church itself is absolutely beautiful, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk through the doors. I also had the pleasure of meeting both the pastor and his wife, and I have to say firsthand that Jaimie, the First Lady, is an absolute blessing and a breath of fresh air. Her kindness, warmth, and genuine spirit immediately made us feel welcome. It's refreshing to find a church that is so intentional about investing in its youth while also creating such a loving and inviting environment for families. We are grateful for the experience and look forward to returning.
