If you're not into football, then maybe you should convince the UK to find a Newsport. Or at least a small part of the country, like a certain county. You can rename it the Newsport County. AFCourse I doubt that will ever happen.
First-Hand Experience: I saw Newport play at Oxford once, and they had good travelling fans, and it was a good solid performance from them and I respected them and they were cool. That was in the 00's, in the mid-00's to be exact.
However my experience at their stadium (watching rugby) was horrible and I hope that my visit to see them play at home live will be nothing like that.
I'm into football, and so is Wales, but they probably like rugby more which is why the local rugby team is a bigger deal than this footy team.
They're back in the big time after a spell in the doldrums, they were once in the second division around the time of WWII (which is the second tier, now known as the Championship), but they've been off the boil for a long time. They dissolved and had to restart from the bottom rungs, and have clawed their way back into the football league now. They still get pitiful attendances though, less than 8k per game.
They play in yellow, which I love, which gets them brownie points, and are from Wales, which is more brownie points. Or yellowy points you might say.
They were formed in 1912 and once called the Exiles because they had to play outside of Wales, in Glocs. Not the instrument but the county of Gloucestershire. Nice to see Adam has reviewed them already, that gets them some extra kudos. But they lose a star for famously injuring a referee by throwing a coin at his head. One apple spoils the whole bunch. read more
