Is an "adult grilled cheese" a reference to when we're older and in a hurry and making actual grilled cheese sandwiches take too much time? The adult grilled cheese is more along the lines of a toasted sub sandwich with melted cheese. Just call it a cheese sandwich. I actually forgot what kind of bisque I was having because there was barely any substance in it (besides the green onions that I asked to have removed). Even without much crab nor lobster, the base was very salty and unfortunately couldn't be saved by its flavor either. read more

Have not been in a few months. Prices are higher--$17 for a sandwich with extra meat that was most basic and not the upgrade. (If it was the upgrade then the regular sandwiches must barely be anything but bread.) My friend's order was completely wrong. Love sitting outside on the deck, but the quality/amount/price of a sandwich inside does not make me want to return anytime soon. read more

I've been here before. When I first came here several years ago it was delicious. I got the black and blue salad. They don't have it any longer. Today I got the Cobb salad. It was terrible. My bowl was full but it was drenched with dressing and the lettuce had way too much brown pieces in it. Two tomatoes. Two quarter pieces of boiled egg. I. Any believe I paid that much for brown floppy lettuce. Next time a friend suggests that I won't go. I'm done trying. Not worth it. Food was not good. Service was. The only person that really needs that suggested tip at check out is the man that works so hard and is so polite that cleans the tables. He's been there each time I've tried this place. read more

The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is the prices. Expect to pay similar rates to panera when eating here, but at least you get portions here that are worth what you pay for. I have been to this location twice now, once as dine-in, and once as take-out. When we dined in, it was a Sunday at lunch and the place was a tad busy. That did not impede their speed though. Our food brough to the table within minutes. I got half a turkey and advocado sandwich, which was pretty good, and a greek salad. The salad was good but there was way too much dressing on it. I could feel the salt on my lips after eating it from the dresssing, so next time I will be sure to ask for it on the side. Everyone else enjoyed their food. When I ordered takeout, my food came out just as fast. I got a whole Newk's club with potato salad, and it was all tasty. I have decided that Newk's has some of the best sandwich bread in the area, and the have some great sides to choose from. All in all, I will be back, especially because they take bama cash. The good food was the Salmon Caesar Salad. It was good, but nothing to write home about. The salmon was good but definitely not bursting with flavor. The great food was the Tomato Basil Soup. It was absolutely delicious. And it was piping hot even after being delivered from a couple of miles down the road. I got a half garden salad and half Club Sandwich which were both great. My boyfriend got a large Tomato Basil Soup and macaroni and cheese. The soup was delicious and creamy while the Mac and cheese was just okay. You will definitely want to add some salt and pepper to it. The service was great and the manager was quick to help us when we realized we were accidentally rung up for the wrong size soup and salad. I have nothing bad to say about any staff or the manager as everyone was super pleasant! I'm really disappointed. I ordered a half Caesar and a turkey avocado sandwich. On the turkey sandwich I asked for no turkey due to dietary restrictions. (There aren't many vegetarian friendly options). When I recover my order not only was their chucks of turkey left on my sandwich that appeared to be the result of someone picking it off after mistakenly putting it on there, but there was some sort of deli meat pieces in my Caesar which doesn't even come with meat to begin with. Solid place to grab a cheap and quick bite with a lot of options. Had a small cup of soup and side salad here and it was fine. Nothing I'd go out of my way for but it got the job done. There are extraordinarily few food options in this area so Newk's serves an important purpose for college students, faculty, and visitors. The food was okay, and the service was less than adequate. This was Noel's first Newks Café and I had given it so much praise and it failed me. I know it was a different location but usually all chains are really similar so I am not sure what happened. We had pizza and pasta and well, I can't even remember what I had because it was so bland. I do love their breadstick crackers in a bag..but that's about it. I wish now that I had went somewhere else and spent my $40...ugh !!!! I am so glad that we braved the cold today and came out to Newk's Eatery. It is my wife Suzette and I's first visit but we will be back. We came today to support the Tuscaloosa Angles, a local non-profit organization. I had the Ultimate Salad and Suzette had 1/2 Caesar Salad, Shrimp Po'Boy, and a HUGE chunk of Chocolate Cake. Food is fresh. Very healthy (except for Suzette's ) I really liked the young lady who took our order. She was very helpful without making us feel dumb. Great Food! read more

I was quite shocked that such a restaurant is located in Alabama, as the I consider Alabama one of the fried states. Which means there are very few choices if you are a person who likes to keep it healthy. I love the variety of the menu. I got a salad and soup and both were very flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the staff waited on the customers as well we had a awesome lunch and the surroundings in this cafe was very pleasant. Mediocre food at best. I ordered a to-go pizza after waiting 20 minutes before getting helped at the register and when I brought it home and had eaten half of it, I noticed a pubic hair cooked in the crust of the pizza. Very disappointing as always. Not eating here again. read more

Does anyone know why Newk's closes its dining room and allows "to go" only orders after 8 pm? The posted hours are 11:00 to 10:00 pm but every time we come it is closed at 9 or 8 randomly. read more
