They have a massive selection of ornamental and fruit trees as well as roses. They also sell all the usual bedding plants, beautiful hanging baskets, pots, compost, garden ornaments and tools for the garden. Apparently a lot of their shrubs and plants are grown at Abercorn. I was told this by a member of staff who was most helpful and friendly and gave me tips about my soil and what I could and could not grow. There is a play area for children so they can enjoy themselves while you are free to look around.

I then went to pay at till, a rather large woman, long black floor length skirt, bleached hair carried on putting out items around the tills, completely ignoring me, when she did serve me she never even looked at me throughout the whole transaction, the only good thing was that she said please and thankyou. They stopped making sandwiches to order, we and others regulars miss these. The staff have always looked like they hate being there and resent customers for having the affront to want serving either cakes and food! We won't bother going there anymore, only for gardening stuff of which there is an endless choice. They certainly need some customer service skills teaching them, we are not something you tread in when you take your dog out!

We went specifically to get a plum tree. We got a lovely shaped specimen and were given good advice about planting and pruning. The chap we were speaking to also recommended a couple of jasmines and we bought a few annuals too. He kindly tied up the tree and helped us into the car with it. The creepers and tree have really taken hold in our garden, thanks to the good advice, and are growing nicely this year. We're hoping to make another trip out to Thompsons later this summer.

I am fully aware this is our problem and not Altons however I wanted to enquire to see if they have a warranty with their supplier as it would appear that there my have been a flaw in the acrylic due to the manner in which it shattered. Sadly we always use Altons for our garden in spring and summer and of course the great selection of Christmas decorations but as the owner Derek was so rude and reduced me to tears I will never go there again a truly disgraceful way to speak to any customer. I will be advising all my friends and family to go else where!!!

At this time of year (Christmas) the first thing you come across is the Christmas light department this is a blacked out area full of fairy lights it is so pretty I could spend all day there. Next is the gift department this is very well stocked by someone with a great eye I do not know of a better set out gift department in any garden centre. There is also a great selection of greeting cards. Outside as you might expect are the plants these are also well arranged with the current seasonal plants first then the herbs then the normal plants alphabetically. I was able to walk the dog around the garden centre with ease. I bought some wind twirlers which I enjoy watching in the garden. I also bought a gold finch attraction bird feeder. Golly gosh, the gold finch birds turned up the next day along with magpies. The plants are expensive but the quality is very good. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. I love the planters. There is something for everyone here. It is a great place for getting that special present. I like niknaks and this place fascinates me.
