Newcomb is a great local school. I am grateful for all the work office staff and teachers do. Mrs. Marshall is amazing and kind.

Landell Elementary School

Landell Elementary School

I do not recommend Margaret Landell Elementary, especially if you have a high-achieving child. In…read moremy experience, instead of consistently challenging students who are ahead, the school seemed more comfortable using them to help other students. A child who is advanced deserves to be taught, stretched, and supported at their own level, not turned into an extra classroom helper. I was also disappointed by the communication. Too often, concerns were brought up in a way that felt one-sided, and it became hard to trust that situations were being handled fairly and objectively. As a parent, once trust in the communication starts breaking down, the whole school experience feels different. I have also noticed the school community feels very different than it did before. Public enrollment dropped from 700 students in 2023-24 to 662 students in 2024-25, and you can feel that change in the school's energy and parent involvement. The school fair felt much emptier than in previous years, and the overall atmosphere no longer feels like the same strong community it once did. The school may work for some families, but it was not the right environment for my child. I want my child in a place where she is both supported and challenged, where concerns are handled fairly, and where strong students are allowed to grow instead of being held back. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

My son has had the best teachers so far (Mc--- and B---k.) He will be starting 2nd grade here after this summer's break. The only negatives I must say is there are some rude parents here, and this is such a highly rated public school that some parents manage to bring their kids in from far away. Whereas my wife and I planned accordingly and moved from Huntington Beach back in 2010, to right across the street from Landell. And we have to pay 11K property tax annually to have our son be in this environment - but I'm sure this is synonymous with how competitive parents are these days.

Like all Cypress schools, the facilities are always clean and they hold themselves to a high standard for cultivating and growing our children. :)

I wrote a review for my middle school since I'm going into 9th grade, so I may as well write one…read morefor here as well... It's an elementary school, so they didn't really care about cleaning up. There was trash everywhere, and one of my friend's had to pick it up. The classes were pretty big, but then again I was shorter. I vividly remember 4 memories. The first is my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Dunagan(I kind of forget how to spell). She was chill, didn't assign homework, yet still tried her best to teach us. The 2nd memory also related to my 5th grade teacher, however, when she was away. The memory is about an awful sub, who I don't even know if she's still alive, but she was rude. She locked my brother outside for talking while doing his work, made us run outside in the grass despite allergies and being severely dehydrated, and otherwise just didn't even try to teach. My friends and I were really into Genshin Impact so we called her the "Crimson Witch of Flames" after one of the bosses, and I still think it's fitting. And, this vivid memory is watching some kid fall into a coma. I don't really remember her name, but she was playing on the monkey bars and accidentally fell, hit her head on something, and next thing I knew an ambulance was out front and they were rolling her away in a wheel chair. Blood was running down her forehead, she was limp and not responding, and needless to say, that changed me as a person. I also never saw her again! I do remember my friend daring me to kick his brother. I was really violent back then so I obliged, and then he fell to the ground crying and sobbing. I almost got the cops called on me, and I wasn't allowed to go and play outside during recess or lunch. It's a reasonable punishment, though not the calling the cops part since I was like 11 or 12. However, what I find unreasonable is that they (they being the workers in the main office) expected me to sit in a corner without getting up, not in sight of the clock, and yet also get up to look at the clock to see when to go back to class since they didn't tell me. And when I did try to do what they expected, they yelled at me to go sit back down. I missed 2 hours worth of class multiple days because of this. Also my brother looked up something on the Chromebook because he saw it in a TV show because he was curious and he got called a predator and almost had the cops called on him. Anyway, I think all elementary schools are dirty and stinky but this one is especially rough. A lot of the punishments were too much, in my opinion. Anyhow, if I had kids, I would try to convince my wife to homeschool them instead of having them go here.
