This was not one of those times. I'm glad I didn't!!!!
My Dad passed away and my Mother requested Doves at the burial ceremony which was a month away.
I Googled Doves release in Auburn, CA. Doves of White was the only search that came up in the territory. I went to the website link and found it very professional and very informative. On the home page had Kathy's information, phone and email to correspond. I elected to make a call. I'm in sales, I've learned in texting, emails, don't always work in translation.
Kathy answered on the first call. I told her that this was for my Dads funeral service, he was a Purple Heart Vet and this was my mothers request at the burial ceremony.
We talked about her services, her pricing etc. This is her company, and what she could offer me and my family. I got the 411 from her and then she asked me probing questions.
Is there going to be a US Guard ceremony to present a flag? - Yes
Is there going to be pastoral rights given? - Yes
She informed me that she'd be present at the cemetery 30 minutes before it presided and that she'd have words appropriate for the ceremony and that the person who received the flag she'd offer a dove with her help to release personally.
She also informed me of her payment policy, check or something else (which I don't remember) No deposit needed, but payment due at the time of her and her wonderful doves service. I informed her of the date. She was free. It was set.
That conversation was over a month ago. So this week, 7/31/23. I called her to confirm, Yes Mr. --- We are all confirmed and set.
Today, 8/3/23, we arrived at the cemetery 30 minutes late, Kathy was there, US Color Guards was there, waiting for us. No Urn from the Funeral home was there, no Dads ashes. I was freaking out. Kathy was calm, talking about what a wonderful ceremony it will be and did everything to put me at ease.
The funeral home had a new employee, went to the wrong cemetery, finally arrived, military guards presented the flag, pastor said the final rights, and then Kathy had great words of the meaning of doves release, references to bible scriptures and taught my Mother how to hold a dove. The Look on my 84yr old Mother face was Priceless on the release and her Smile. Then Kathy and released the remaining 9 doves and it was a sight to see.
Afterwards my brothers were so impressed they were asking how these doves worked. Kathy gave them the 411 of homing doves, that she's been in the business for 30+ years, been invited to not just the individual ceremonies but locally for full US military ceremonies.
I know this is Kathy's only second review on Yelp, #1 receive over 1yr ago had a poor experience. Maybe communication, maybe annoyance for pay a surcharge. I can't say. I paid cash, no issues
This is Kathy's second review which should put her at three Stars. I place her at five.... Use her service.
I just wish I had photos of the ceremony and how brilliant it was to post on this review.
