There's a cafe on the beach for food or coffee and the area has the local fish'n'chips plus other stores. There are flagged areas to swim but it's a good beach to almost swim anywhere. Rocks are great source of entertainment for the kids as well as photo opportunities. The cliffs provide a majestic backdrop and the open beach gives lovely light for sunset. I don't know why I don't come here more often. :)

From the moment we arrived, it was a complete disaster. Especially after we paid $500 a night for it! Nobby Beach Holiday Village was ridiculously overpriced for the disgusting state it was in. We were placed in a "villa" at Nobby Beach Holiday Village that was absolutely infested with cockroaches--everywhere. They were in the rooms, in the bathroom, and even dead cockroaches in the hotel pool. My children were terrified and understandably so. Needless to say, it was extremely unhygienic. The level of filth and neglect was shocking, and it made the entire experience unbearable. The rooms at Nobby Beach Holiday Village were filthy--dust and grime in every corner. The air conditioning was leaking heavily, so we couldn't even use it with 30+ degrees outside, which made the room incredibly uncomfortable. The hob didn't work. Everything felt like it had been neglected for far too long. The customer service at Nobby Beach Holiday Village was an absolute joke. I was promised a 50% refund for all the issues, but three months later, I still haven't seen a penny. They've kept coming up with one excuse after another, like claiming I didn't provide my full credit card details, including the CVV number (which is an unsafe request and unnecessary). I even offered my bank account details for a bank transfer, and they completely ignored me. Booking.com has been absolutely useless in solving this issue. They offered a virtual card solution for Nobby Beach Holiday Village to refund, but the hotel still hasn't followed through. It's been an endless runaround, and no one at Nobby Beach Holiday Village or Booking.com seems to care or take responsibility for the situation. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Nobby Beach Holiday Village. It was a nightmare for my family, and the management has shown zero professionalism or integrity. There are plenty of great places to stay in the area, for the same price or less, where you can expect the least - a clean bed without cockroaches to sleep in.

Well, boat is probably an understatement, rather I should say bulk grain carrier. Yeah, it was stuck here for quite a while, and ever since that event Nobby's Beach has always stuck in my mind as the beach with the bulk grain carrier. Yeah, I've seen it now, though there was no indication whatsoever that a ship has come ashore here.

Maybe they're still as relevant as they used to be, I don't know. Maybe a breakwater is the only reason I enjoyed the ass out of my all my swims in Newcastle as much as I did, which was a lot. So, let's assume the latter. Huzzah for breakwaters! Breakwaters are the best! Not just for swimming behind, but also for walking along at a leisurely clip, either at sunset (recommended) or any other time of day (also recommended, as long as there's no storm brewing, in which case you don't want to make yourself a lightning rod, which is not recommended.)

Sometimes I head through the lovely cliff side neighborhoods just walk along the cliff. I'd often find my self hanging out here for hours. Sometimes at the beach or sitting on the cliffs studying for school. There's a special connection to this beach to where I currently live in Hawaii. This is where Duke Kahanamoku, Olympian, politician, surfer, spreader of Aloha introduced Surfing to Australia. Inside the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club there is a little memorial for the Duke with pictures, trophies, and his original wooden board he took to Australia. If you head up the stairs above the salt water pool there is an overgrown little park with a statue of the Duke Kahanamoku surfing on a boulder facing Freshwater beach. It's definitely a cool spot for anyone visiting from Hawaii. It's a great beach too with dramatic picturesque landscape. Ideally probably one of my top dream Neighborhoods to reside one day.

On a recent trip we introduced the pet, affectionately named "The Furmonster" during these awkward teenage months, to beach life at Redhead dog beach, about a 20 minute drive from Newcastle Proper. There's long stretches of sand for your four-legged friend to run and burn any excess energy and if your canine is a fan of the surf there's a gentle swell for them to frolic in. All of the dogs and dog owners we encountered were friendly and stopped for conversations along the way (proof dogs make meeting new people super easy!). He was off leash for the majority of our visit. It's clean and uncrowded, almost like a dog-owners best kept secret. Why force yourself onto a patch of sand at Newcastle's best known beaches when this slice of pet-friendly paradise is only a few k's further away and the blue water is still as crystal clear and soul-reviving on a Summer's day?
