Our guide was Zev who was a good guy, knowledgable and informative. The free walking tour was around the downtown area so we visited places like Wall Street, Battery Park, the Charging Bull, and the World Trade Centre. The tour also concentrates on a lot of history of how New York (originally New Amsterdam) came to be which was great to hear. My favourite part was actually being able to hear the story of 9/11 from a local (Zev) who was in the city at that time. Obviously I've seen people talk about it on TV but never in person from someone who was there and what the aftermath was like and how the City of New York came together. Powerful stuff. I always recommend finding free walking tours to friends and family. My experience with Sandemans in other countries is great and New York is no different.

Yet, her love of the industry and the city was both palpable and contagious and she won me and the rest of my group over with her mix of historical (and hysterical) tales and gossip. The approximately 100 minute tour allows you to see many of the notable theatres of the area as well as some sights around Times Square. We even caught a glimpse of a Broadway star, Donna Murphy, though that wasn't officially part of the tour. It all wraps up with a group picture that makes for a good souvenir. Even better, you don't have to pay anything to get access to it online! The only reason that this isn't getting 5 stars is that the group was just too big for Allie's voice and speaker. I understand they have to pack 'em in to make the money, but it detracted from the experience.

It gives you a little taste of pretty much everything in the Big Apple. Afterward you can pick and choose what sites were satisfying enough for seconds. It is a very concise tour. Afterwards you will have a greater appreciation and knowledge of the city of Manhattan. If possible ask for Bobby. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and nice. Perfect guide. This tour takes cuts down the Big Apple into smaller parts and makes a sweet Big Apple pie.

It was a good experience but there was some times that were rushed to take pictures like the Statue of Liberty and some things weren't done even though they said they were going to like going to trinity church. Food was preselected without input from the group. Daniel spent lots of time talking about personal experiences which were irrelevant to our time and then we lost the opportunity to take photos or truly take in the sites. Would have preferred more history of the city and broadway and more authentic to NYC food options instead of new development neighborhoods, parks, and generic diner food or pasta. The best part was eating at the diner with the broadway actors. Instead of going on the dinner cruise around Statue of Liberty, it was replaced with the free staten island ferry and severely lacked ambience. Also, initially, Daniel seemingly tried to save money on room arrangements by shoving attendees into rooms together instead of purchasing the allotted rooms. It was only after an adult made a big deal about it, that he acknowledged his mistake and fixed the issue. Also on one of our shows, Daniel was less than forthcoming about the cast for the night and attempted to divert our attention away from the fact that we found out before he told us. Grateful for the experience with my bestfriend as we are middle school and broadway was such a great experience, but don't think the money was worth it. We could have done a lot more and experienced a lot more for what we paid.

Sam is very educated on the history of NYC along with its architecture. He keeps the tour interesting with fun anecdotes and historical stories. On the Foundations of New York tour, we did 2-2.5 hours of walking around lower Manhattan: Battery Park to the Customs House to NY Stock Exchange to Trinity Church to the 9/11 Memorial to City Hall..just to name a few! The tour was extremely comprehensive and Sam knew such great details about each of the spots. Sam is also very friendly and answered several questions that we had along the way.
