Flies, flies everywhere. They are everywhere in Switzerland anyway but when you have food exposed,…read moreyou might want to try to mitigate the bugs. The arrogant staff person I spoke to pretended to be nice but I saw right through his sarcasm. I chose a WRAPPED sandwich and it was fine. My dining partner had a sausage with fries. I helped him eat the fries and noticed they were double dipped. (Which I like personally but it's frowned upon). Our meal was priced insanely too. .70chf for mayo, 6.80 for Coke Zero. Oh and tap water was 3.50chf. Overall, we should have looked around rather than stopping at the first place off the trail. Skip this one unless you are desperate.

And to top it off, it's steps away from the base of Gifthittli and the ski school. Lastly, it is at the top of the magic carpet at the ski school... The cafeteria has limited outside seating to take the sun rays when possible. Entering the place, the cafeteria line starts to the left while the bar is to the right of the main entrance. A huge selection of German (Wiener Schnitzel and the like) Swiss (Raclette), Italian (pasta dishes) and American-style sandwiches are available. As well, a huge selection of hydrating and health drinks. The bar is pretty much fully stocked. There is ample seating.

I managed to order my panini and water, get espresso and a pastry later for dessert, pay, and thank him for his hospitality without uttering a word of English. It's all about showing the respect that this wonderful culture of delicious excellence truly deserves! The cafeteria itself was beyond spotless, positively gleaming with cleanliness and pride. I had a simple pressed panini with speck and brie in fresh crusty bread. It was affordable (5eu) and delicious. Add a mineral water for another euro and then caffe and pistachio pasty for two more and I was all set for only 8 euros! They kindly let me eat and relax and settle up at the end. I was wondering what delicious speck was all about since I believe it means lard in German. However, I discovered it is another Italian masterpiece of meat preservation. Speck is cured and smoked meat from the Alto Adige region in northern Italy and near Austria. To make it, you bone a pork leg, cure it in salt, laurel, and juniper, and then periodically smoke it with pine or juniper wood for months! Yes, that's right. MONTHS! It's an amazing red color with marbled traces of fat. Sliced thin to maximize flavor, it's an incredibly delicate and delicious meat rarely found in the United States. Try it next time you have the chance!

I was assuming he did not want to be working on a Sunday afternoon, but we had just skied down the hill from the Switzerland side of the mountain so we weren't going anywhere. The location yes, is small, but plenty of room for a family and cafeteria style seating available for larger groups. The wine was right from the Valle d'aosto and was the suggestion of the owner who was also our waitress. We had an uneventful cheese and meat platter, then enjoyed some fresh home made ravioli and tagliatelle in fresh pesto sauce. It was probably the most delicious pasta dish I have ever had in my life and the wine complemented it perfectly! We capped it off with some handmade tiramisu and espresso, then were gifted "crema de limoncello" which was home made fresh daily at the restaurant. If you happen to be looking for authentic Italian food while in Cervinia on a quick little ski in, this is the spot to go. I was sad to leave and would go back here time and time again. They also do not speak very good English but no one cares about that when it comes to that deliciousness they serve up!

The place is small and cozy, nice old feel to it. They don't have pizza, however and when my daughter asked for raw vegetables instead of cooked the owner wouldn't do it which was what cost him a star for lack of great service. It is an Italian place with a french name that had an Irish stained glass flag inside (points for that). Not bad for apres-ski and hearty pasta fuel up for next day skiing. Not the best for date night or the family.
