The Village Civic Center is located in the City of Sunrise's police substation. I'd recommend holding an evening event for more parking spot options. The fellow who sets up the room is always friendly and helpful. I'm docking a star due to the facility not notifying us that it didn't have a microphone. It has in the years past but apparently it went missing. If we had known prior, we would have improvised and brought our own mics. When it's an important part of a business program, it hinders the guests' experience. It was preventable for our program had we known and renters of the facility should be informed.

Many of them are local retirees, who are so friendly and eager to help. I especially appreciated the lower voting booths with chairs, which made things so much easier for my friend who uses a walker and has health issues. These thoughtful accommodations really do make a difference. We arrived just a few minutes after opening and had no wait. The parking lot was empty, but by the time we left, people were starting to trickle in. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to make our voices heard, and we should never take that for granted. Please vote and make your voice count.

There is newer furniture located in the lobby area. I have attended two separate events at this civic center, with the most recent being yesterday. The facility is spacious which includes indoor and outdoor spaces. The inside of the building was clean and accommodated approximately a couple hundred people at this specific event. There is a beautiful oak tree on the front of the property. I did not have an opportunity to explore the entire property, just the inside of the venue and the outside area in front of the entrance.

Also at Jarvis Hall, local residents, including actors, writers, directors, etc., periodically put on plays that are remarkably well done. The most recent play, Don't Dress for Dinner was hilarious and ended without a flaw. The acting was top-notch. The next event, Veteran Voices will be held on November 14th. The show features 10 short plays written by veterans from different states in support of all veterans. Jarvis Hall is for the people. Go check it out.

Miramar Town Center - City Hall In March 2000, the City purchased a 54-acre parcel located north of Miramar Parkway, east of Red Road, west of Hiatus Road and south of Miramar Boulevard. It then proceeded to acquire all of the necessary development entitlements for the property's development into a vibrant mixed-use Town Center that would house the new City Hall facilities, a public library, cultural center - arts park and educational center in the civic complex area. The project is also programmed to contain retail, office and residential components. Development - Once all necessary entitlements were acquired, the City developed a Master Plan and a Pattern Book to guide the development of the project. In December 2002, the City broke ground on the Town Center project and vertical construction of the new 87,000 square foot City Hall facility began in May 2003. City Hall reached substantial completion in August 2004 and a phased move-in commenced shortly thereafter. The center's construction began in June 2018, and it was completed in 2020, earning LEED v4.1 Gold certification for Existing Buildings. I got a chance to check out the inside and was impressed of the building. This community center in Cresthaven is named after Charlotte Burrie, a former Commissioner and Vice Mayor. She was an advocate for building a community center in the Cresthaven neighborhood of Pompano Beach. She served as a city commissioner from 2007 until 2018. The community center has an lobby and reception area, administrative offices, small conference room, auditorium with stage and dressing rooms, warming kitchen and two multi-purpose activity rooms. Programs held here include line dancing, Silver Sneakers, yoga, bunco, karate, jazzercise, and Zumba classes. There is also a community board game night. There are flyers for all kinds of events posted in the community center and a listing of dates and times on the website. This community center serves as a hub for cultural, civic, and recreational activities in a building that was designed with a focus on accessibility and functionality. Community centers provide inclusive spaces for diverse groups to meet, learn, and grow which reduces the feeling of isolation while empowering community members with skills. Providing affordable recreational and wellness programs is a vital component of a communities well being and the Charlotte Burrie Community Center does an excellent job of meeting this need.
