My event was a board game convention called FlamingoCon and there were a couple hundred people playing a couple hundred different board games from 9-9. They even had a food truck show up for lunch! Scrambling to find testing, drive-thru testing is available at South County Civic Center 7 days a week from 9-7. We're all vaccinated and have our boosters. My husband & I tested negative last week when we flew back from Colombia so I'm not too worried, but with the holidays, we have family coming, and we all have to work in the office this week, so just to be safe. The line is long. It wraps all through the parking lot and onto Jog Road. It moves and is well organized. I got on the line at 11:15, an hour later, I'm about half way through. From start to finish it was just under 2 hours. Not they way I wanted to spend my Sunday morning, but it is what it is. Testing for both tests, the rapid and the PCR took less than a minute. Results for the rapid came back really fast. We weren't even home yet when the text came through. So what were the results...my younger boy and I are negative and my husband and the older one will be in a hotel in Miami for the next 10 days.

I go to a lot of events here. It's always a nice time. Never any problems. Good neighborhood. The Pompano Beach Toy Con was a lot of fun. Lots of cool things to see like vintage Star Wars, vintage records, Pokémon items, Japanese snacks, Handmade jewelry, and different types of art and so much more too numerous to name them all. Also People dressed in costumes is always fun taking pictures with the kids. We will definitely go next year.

But it was renamed in honor of Emma Lou, the late mayor and long time commissioner of Pompano Beach. There are meetings and banquet rooms here as well as classrooms, halls, and even a dance studio. A variety of programs are offered here as well as lessons. Sports and exercise classes including pickle ball, karate, Zumba, et al. Unfortunately, they no longer hold the granny's attic that I had a selling table at for several years. This was one of my favorite events as there aren't many inside yard sales. But check out the current events and classes -- there's something for everyone.

It could be cleaner and it could be more colorful and cheerful, but it does serve its purpose of being a transfer hub station for several lines. The Government Center station is one of the intramodal stations in downtown Miami and is operated by Miami-Dade Transit and serves as a transfer station not only for the Metrorail and Metromover rapid transit systems but it also serves as a bus station for Metrobus, Paratransit, and Broward County Transit buses. The station is located near the intersection of Northwest First Street and First Avenue, a part of the Stephen P. Clark Government Center Building. It opened to service May 20, 1984, next to the site of a former FEC railway station which is now MiamiCentral. The second floor of the complex includes the main fare control for Metrorail and platforms for the Metromover loops, as well as the Metrofare Shops area. The third floor of the complex is a mezzanine for transfers between the two services. A ghost platform for a never-built east-west Metrorail line is located on this level. The fourth floor of the complex is the Metrorail platform. It is the highest transit platform of the Miami-Dade Transit system in height and can hold up to eight Metrorail cars.

The center's construction began in June 2018, and it was completed in 2020, earning LEED v4.1 Gold certification for Existing Buildings. I got a chance to check out the inside and was impressed of the building. This community center in Cresthaven is named after Charlotte Burrie, a former Commissioner and Vice Mayor. She was an advocate for building a community center in the Cresthaven neighborhood of Pompano Beach. She served as a city commissioner from 2007 until 2018. The community center has an lobby and reception area, administrative offices, small conference room, auditorium with stage and dressing rooms, warming kitchen and two multi-purpose activity rooms. Programs held here include line dancing, Silver Sneakers, yoga, bunco, karate, jazzercise, and Zumba classes. There is also a community board game night. There are flyers for all kinds of events posted in the community center and a listing of dates and times on the website. This community center serves as a hub for cultural, civic, and recreational activities in a building that was designed with a focus on accessibility and functionality. Community centers provide inclusive spaces for diverse groups to meet, learn, and grow which reduces the feeling of isolation while empowering community members with skills. Providing affordable recreational and wellness programs is a vital component of a communities well being and the Charlotte Burrie Community Center does an excellent job of meeting this need.
