New Punjab gets possibly an extra star for being the only Indian restaurant in the area (as far as i'm aware, that is... maybe some Yelper out here will prove me wrong :).It may seem a little pricey, but the variety is worth a premium to me.
Having not yet eaten my way around the entire menu, I'll say the food is pretty good. I think it requires personal exploration to see what works best for you. A few things have left my tongue-part longing for more, but others have tickled its fancy. (And again, it gets points for being the only Indian flavors in the neighborhood.) The owners are warm and friendly, and speak English as well as Italian, so maybe ask for some help finding your way.
The dining room is the first level when you walk in. One level down is a hukka bar. Yet another level down is a furniture shop (I haven't personally ventured down, but I've heard there are wonderful, if pricey, things down there. Looking around the restaurant gives you some idea what treasures await). I noticed they also have a few foodstuffs for sale (near the entrance) , if you fancy getting your Indian fix in your own kitchen.
Last night a friend who frequents the Punjab showed me the Snack Menu, which includes an Indian take on kebabs. I had some fat samosas and a chicken kebab and my tongue was in heaven! It's not the common kebab in the area: imagine naan wrapped around some tender curry chicken with some tomatoes and cucumbers thrown in for contrasting flavor bursts. I'm in love, and I'm excited to learn that not only can I have a proper dinner with Indian flavors; if I'm looking for something a little more snacky/fast-food-y, I can get my fix another way in the hukka lounge (you may need to ask for the Snack Menu).
All things considered, the exotic flavors and warm atmosphere add up to a great way to take a culinary trip without having to pack your bags. It may not be the Indian food you'd get in London (and I've sadly not yet had Indian food in India), but I appreciate having a pleasant portal to another land a short drive away. read more
