Whether they'll get back together and make another album remains questionable but for many music lovers, New Order remain the quintessential Manchester band.
Formed out of the ashes of Joy Division, New Order revolved around the magical partnership of Bernard Sumner's vocals, Peter Hook's basslines, Stephen Morris's drumbeats and Gillian Gilbert's synths. Together the quartet made a string of awesome singles that were as inspired by New York electro and Chicago house as much as British post-punk. They might have lost a ton of money by releasing 'Blue Monday' in a drop-dead-gorgeous sleeve but they should rest assured they put out the best 12" in musicial history!
